PSA: Do NOT trust JSC Transportation with your children's lives!!!

Holy smokes! Check out this video I just found of a "professional" school bus driver, employed by JSC Transportation in Waltham, going full road rage over absolutely nothing! If I were you, I would NOT trust this company with the responsibility of keeping my children safe!

Waltham public works hates green space

Sent from a friend- the wildflowers have been mowed at Piety Corner. If it wasn’t for the state environmental regulations, they’d probably pave the whole thing over and make it parking

Relocating for work. Worth it to move to Waltham?

Hello am moving from Maryland to MA for work. Am going to work at the Air Force base in Hanscom so I’m looking to rent a studio that is MAX $2000 preferably under and a short commute to work and Boston as-well.

Waltham popped up as a nice city to live in for a new grad like me and the fact it’s close to work and Boston.

The job will pay me 80k and I do have close to $7k saved up from internships and a relocation bonus. I have found studios under $2k .

Am wondering if those studios are good places to live in or if anything is fishy? Will Waltham give me for what am looking for or will I be disappointed? Also if not Waltham is there any places in MA that are affordable on my salary and still being a good city to live in for a new grad ?

Computer Repair

Figured here would give me more honest results than google, but does anyone have any recommendations for cheap computer repair places in Waltham? My computer crapped out when I was updating the software and don’t wanna spend too much money bringing it to big name places.

Any recommendations would be good, I’m thinking about going to Compustar, it has the best reviews but I tried calling the place to make an appointment and it seems like the number doesn’t work anymore. Is it worth going over there to get my computer fixed or are there better places to go? Asking people who know the area and have any feedback to give.

Bacon St closure

So discovered this morning during rush hour that Bacon Street is closed between Pond and School in both directions with detours down those respective streets. I spoke with the detail officer on-site, who indicated that this closure will remain in effect through the fall as work progresses south toward Main Street. Unfortunately, he did not have specific details regarding the exact days or hours of the closure. The southbound detour is particularly bad in the morning with all that traffic trying to exit Pond onto Lexington.

Chief Mullin

The reaction to the recent article about Fire Chief Mullin says a lot about how quickly anonymous criticism can overshadow decades of public service.

Whether you agree with every opinion he expressed at the Traffic Commission meeting or not, it's worth considering who is speaking. This is someone who has spent an entire career responding to fires, medical emergencies, serious crashes, and tragedies most people hope they never witness. Firefighters don't show up on our best days; they arrive on our worst. They work to save lives when they can and treat victims and their families with dignity when they can't.

Public safety officials have not only the right, but the responsibility, to raise concerns when they believe a roadway, intersection, or design decision could affect emergency response or increase the risk of injury. Those concerns deserve to be heard and debated on their merits, not dismissed with personal attacks.

Reasonable people can disagree about traffic, parking, or pedestrian access. But if the Fire Chief says a proposal raises safety concerns, even if addressing those concerns means asking people to walk a little farther or accept a minor inconvenience, that perspective deserves serious consideration.

Disagreement is healthy - and that's the point of the discussion at the traffic commission meetings. Anonymous character attacks on someone with a lifetime of public service who is tasked with protecting all of us are not.

Thank you Chief Mullin, whether or not we agree with you.

Living under an Airbnb

Found a nice enough apartment in the south side, but the unit above it is an airbnb. What's the take on an airbnb in that area? Is it going to make living there hell?

Questions for Waltham residents

Hello fellow Bostonians,

My husband and I are officially moving to Boston! We’re a young gay couple moving from Fort Lauderdale to Waltham. The official date is mid August, it is soon, we are super excited for Boston!!

We picked Waltham because the location works for us. My husband has office in Waltham. We love the convenience of getting into the city with commuter rail. Also, rent in waltham is better priced compared to the other neighborhoods like Cambridge and Eastie.

We have yet locked in on any lease because we are finally touring the apartments this weekend.. Currently we are looking at Edison on the Charles, the Merc on Moody.
-Is there any residents in any of these buildings? -Any comments and ideas of how you guys are loving them?
-Pricing is still fluctuating as of now, it was trending higher and we spotted lower before. We know it is the high season for moving now, should we lock in as soon as we see something we like, or should we hold a little longer till end of July because of the scenario of “lesser people moving to Boston in 2026”
-are we missing any apartments that the locals know of?

For Waltham residents, how is life in Waltham?? We know these buildings are on the main streets, are quiet hours respected in the community? Does it get loud?

Any feedback or opinions would be so helpful! Thank you kind people!

Y pool etiquette

  1. Be sure to spray your sunscreen into the air and jump into the mist. We want lung cancer so breathing that in is perfect to achieve that goal.

  2. Sport your thong. We want to train our kids to be in fashion.

  3. Let’s keep the grassy area as muddy as possible. That dirt helps keep the pool fresh!

  4. Park your stuff under an umbrella and never come back. You need to stake your claim!

What else folks?

Fire Chief Mullin thinks Brandeis students should walk a fifth of a mile to cross South Street

At the June 18 traffic commission meeting, Fire Chief Randy Mullin, who made $234,937 last year and who has a vote on the traffic commission, and who has opposed any and every proposed traffic calming measure to slow drivers, suggested Brandeis students walk 1,000 feet to use a footbridge instead of crossing the 25 feet of South Street at a crosswalk he calls dangerous, on a street he calls dangerous.

Brandeis representatives came before the commission to propose a larger and brighter RRFB (the flashing yellow lights) after a snow plow driver destroyed an automatic crosswalk they installed last year where observant students wouldn't have to press a button on Shabbat.

Mullin then asked if Brandeis would build a tunnel.

Chief Mullin's role on the traffic commission is putatively to make our streets safer for everyone.

Instead, he values drivers' ability to go 40mph past a college campus and elementary school over the ability of human beings to traverse their city on foot.

What exactly is Randy Mullin doing to "earn" $234,937?

Lightning show

Has anyone else seen this insane lightning show? I can’t hear anything, but it’s been going on for over half an hour. It’s almost 1 AM so I can’t imagine it’s fireworks.

Leash your dogs people

I was riding my bike down lyman st this morning and a dog ran across the street from the sidewalk and almost got run over by me and two different cars while the owner looked dumbfounded. (edit: turns out this was not the owner) Just use a leash like you are supposed to and you can spare others the trauma of having to watch your dog get killed as well as potential injury

Has anyone seen the woman who dresses in dark clothes in the Highlands area and stands on the edge of the street?

I’ve seen her a bunch of times, including one time where she darted in front of my car. Tonight my kid was driving and as we pulled up to a stop sign, she took a big step back in front of our car and then kept walking.

Amazing new pavement ... not

We can't have nice things... less than a month after a new pavement, not even marking were painted on - National Grid already cutting everything out. Waltham Public Works can't coordinate with anyone? Why ... Just why.

Why is there ALWAYS something happening in at Connors Memorial Pool?

Every week I see at least 4 cops at the place, recently saw 7 there (including state police) a few days back. I always thought it was a child-centric public pool, but there's always adults acting a fool over there. Wtf is up?
