Be careful with this med. Cold turkey is no joke.

Hi people!! First time posting here!! I want to told an awful experience i lived with Trintellix 9 months ago.

I will start from the beginning.

I suffer from anxiety and obsessive thoughts related with illness since i was a young adult (20yo) and i went with sertraline 50mg at that time. That med worked very well for my anxiety but i suffered from a mild emotional blunting and the worst sexual dysfunction ever, this carried me a lot of problems with sexual partners and girlfriends, that's what my psychiatrist decided me to put on Trintellix, just telling me that this med had a better sexual profile. I started with a dose of 10mg, experiencing a lot of weird things like cognitive impairment, unability to focus on my studies, apathy and a lot of fatigue, not very useful with anxiety, that's why he tried to increase the dose on 15mg telling me that my anxiety will improve but my symptoms get worse and sexual dysfunction came again.

I read a lot of clinical information about Trintellix during my treatment explaining that due to his long life i could go cold turkey cause my body will do a "natural gradual tapering", worst mistake of my life.

Just like 1 week later i'll felt fine and i explained my psychiatrist that i cold turkeyed vortioxetine and he said "ok, it's up to you, you know what you're doing", which i think now that was a big neglicence by him.

Months passed with mild fatigue and anxiety, experiencing the same emotional blunting when i was on 15mg (unability to cry or laugh genuinely,...). At the month 6 i started to experience wild palpitations after the nap which was frightening but i thought were part of the process, later some tinnitus came intermittently. Was finally when at month 8 after one anxiety episode i've suffered the worst experience of my life. Huge despersonalization, tinnitus and palpitations 24/7, can't even sleep for 3 days, extreme anxiety and the worst of all, akathisia. I just wanted to kill myself to end this suffering. After this, i've reinstated vortioxetine knowing that probably i would need the same med to stabilize myself and the receptors that are modulated with trintellix.

I was put on 10mg again and i experienced a completely different experience comparing to the previous crisis treatment. Big activation, mood swings, anger issues,... I almost punched my own father.

Now after tapering 1mg every month with another psychiatrist (4mg now) im so much better but not recovered yet, my goal is to get rid off of this medication. Definitely not for me.

Hope my experience will be useful to remember that cold turkey an antidepressant is NEVER a good idea, specially with trintellix that affects other systems due to it's multimodal profile.

Take care of yourself and thanks to read this.

Pd: want to apologize myself for my grammar, not a native english speaker.
