Which campaign villain do people really like??
So far, I've played all the campaigns and enjoyed it all, but one common question - Which villain from these campaigns is the most likeable one?
My take on this:- I'd say that Tezcatlipoca is by far my favorite villain because the fact that he is a crafty trickster and formidable warrior through his words and actions. It's obvious given that it's his nature as the god of darkness, sorcery, trickery and chaos, but his personality of being a trickster god that's worshipped so much by the Aztecs (including a festival in his honor called Toxcatl) makes me forget that he's actually a villain in the Obsidian Mirror Campaign. Oh, I absolutely love his jaguar form in the artwork and as the hero unit too (except for the fact that the beard he has makes him look more like a lion than an actual jaguar, but I love the overall aesthetics) which they could have improved upon.
He literally tricked Quetzalcoatl (who is a god BTW) into drinking the elixir (which was actually the intoxicating pulque drink) and manipulating him into destroying Aztlan in the prologue of the campaign and Iztaccihuatl couldn't even realise Tezcatlipoca's real motives until the final mission of the OM campaign.
The other villains such as Gargarensis, Kamos, Kemyst, Kagemasa, Kronos' servant, Huang Zhaowu are more about power, chaos and revenge which is typical of the villain archetype. Kronos' servant also plays the trickster role quite well by manipulating Kastor and the Atlanteans into worshipping the Titans and killing the followers of the Olympians so that the Titans can escape the depths of Tartarus, but I feel that he had more to offer as a unit too.
Skult (who is actually Loki) as a unit in the FOTT campaign was more about trickery through words than actions (which is not what Loki should be but you can't have everything), which made me question why Loki himself as a hero unit was not used since it would have had so much potential. So Skult is a side character
In the Immortal Pillars Campaign, Chiyou himself plays a solid role as a god of trickery, chaos and war by allying with a rogue figure like Huang Zhaowu but he completely blows up the trickery aspect the moment he reveals his ulterior motives of ruling the Celestial Court to Huang Zhaowu after stealing the god trap. I get that he has ulterior motives, but why did he backstab his ally? That itself gave a chance for Huang Zhaowu to control him which is something that leaves me baffled.
