Which campaign villain do people really like??

So far, I've played all the campaigns and enjoyed it all, but one common question - Which villain from these campaigns is the most likeable one?

My take on this:- I'd say that Tezcatlipoca is by far my favorite villain because the fact that he is a crafty trickster and formidable warrior through his words and actions. It's obvious given that it's his nature as the god of darkness, sorcery, trickery and chaos, but his personality of being a trickster god that's worshipped so much by the Aztecs (including a festival in his honor called Toxcatl) makes me forget that he's actually a villain in the Obsidian Mirror Campaign. Oh, I absolutely love his jaguar form in the artwork and as the hero unit too (except for the fact that the beard he has makes him look more like a lion than an actual jaguar, but I love the overall aesthetics) which they could have improved upon.

He literally tricked Quetzalcoatl (who is a god BTW) into drinking the elixir (which was actually the intoxicating pulque drink) and manipulating him into destroying Aztlan in the prologue of the campaign and Iztaccihuatl couldn't even realise Tezcatlipoca's real motives until the final mission of the OM campaign.

The other villains such as Gargarensis, Kamos, Kemyst, Kagemasa, Kronos' servant, Huang Zhaowu are more about power, chaos and revenge which is typical of the villain archetype. Kronos' servant also plays the trickster role quite well by manipulating Kastor and the Atlanteans into worshipping the Titans and killing the followers of the Olympians so that the Titans can escape the depths of Tartarus, but I feel that he had more to offer as a unit too.

Skult (who is actually Loki) as a unit in the FOTT campaign was more about trickery through words than actions (which is not what Loki should be but you can't have everything), which made me question why Loki himself as a hero unit was not used since it would have had so much potential. So Skult is a side character

In the Immortal Pillars Campaign, Chiyou himself plays a solid role as a god of trickery, chaos and war by allying with a rogue figure like Huang Zhaowu but he completely blows up the trickery aspect the moment he reveals his ulterior motives of ruling the Celestial Court to Huang Zhaowu after stealing the god trap. I get that he has ulterior motives, but why did he backstab his ally? That itself gave a chance for Huang Zhaowu to control him which is something that leaves me baffled.

Issue with the Attack Move command

Is anyone else annoyed with the attack move command like me??

I just don't understand why this happens- I task my armies to attack certain units or buildings and then some of my soldiers stand still while a few of them continue leveling the enemy base.

It baffles me as to why this happens all the time

PVP guide for a player who has been playing the game for 20 years as a noob+ or casual

I've seen many new players shy away from PvP, and as someone who only plays PvP, I'd like to share some practical tips.

1.- Let's start with a basic villager build order for each civilization. In this game, advancing to higher ages is crucial for attacking and defending. Timing is important in a game where you compete against others, but don't worry, this is very easy, and you can always find better build orders later.

So you should be attacking, even if it's just with one unit, by minute 5-6.

The goal is for you to advance to the next era by 00:00 - 05:00mins

Greeks, Aztecs, Japanese, Chinese.
- The first 6 villagers to food, 2 villagers to wood, and 3 to gold; this is enough for you to build a house, temple, and age advances.
Nordic.
- Your first 3 villagers go to gold, the next villager to wood, you produce dwarves whenever you can, the 4th villager to gold, everything else to food, and you alternate between producing a dwarf whenever you can.
-Egyptians build monuments, 7 villagers get food, and everyone else gets gold
-Atlanteans, 2 villagers to food, 1 villager to wood, 1 villager to gold, all others to food

2.- Here we get to the important stuff. Whether your style is aggressive or defensive, we have to fight, and the first fear when you're new is when you're surprised by an attack; nerves get the better of you because you feel the pressure.

So you should be attacking, even if it's just with one unit, by minute 5-6.

2.1.- First basic concept: villagers are worth more than a soldier at the start of the game, so don't let them die and try to eliminate enemy villagers.

3.- Basic strategies:
3.1 .- Build 2 Town Centers to get more villagers and more resources
3.1.1.- With 2 TCs you have to start producing armies to attack and assess your opponent , but you have two options: either build an army to explore the map and focus on quickly reaching the Heroic Age by minute 10-11, or focus entirely on building up your population with an army and advancing to the Heroic Age by minute 13.
3.2.- 1 TC: Here we have 2 options: 1. We build an army and attack until we can naturally advance to the Heroic Age at minute 11. 2. To reach the Heroic Age, by minute 7-8 you need to keep 7-8 villagers hunting for food and 4-5 villagers gathering gold, defending with only one hero and slowing down to attack in the Heroic Age. If your opponent is passive, you can quickly reach the Mythic Age by minute 13 with a TC or by minute 16 with a TC and better economy.

You have to play with the objective in mind: at such and such a minute I'm going to go all out, or once I have the following upgrades or units in my army I'm going to launch an attack.

The truth is, what I wrote is more of a description of the stages you should be progressing through to avoid falling behind. This game has many strategies and options with each of the gods. But the important thing is that you at least understand how the game will progress and how your opponent came to have such an army or advance to that age.

Found an old (signed?) copy, curious if legit

Found this in my father's stuff, I wasn't able to find any other copy of something like this online from my (rather limited) looking, but I figured you all might know something more. My knowlege is rather... limited.

From what I remember my father said it was signed by some of the team; I have no idea what part.

Just trying to figure out if it's worth anything haha. Thank you all!

Sry for the stupid meme, but I had to.

The first time I heard someone say this unit's name (probably Boit) I was like excuse me what?

Then I realized it's actually Yari, but come on Yari and Yaoi sound almost identical, and it's a Japanese unit to boot.

Thoughts on bringing the Trebuchet to AOM? Long range siege

My favourite part from AOE2 was the long range trebuchet which would force turtle players to leave their walls to fight harassment?

Would it fit the Greek pantheons or make a new Roman sub God? As a balance walls could have an upgrade at mythic to be double as resistant.

Also for other Gods like aztecs that use more traps, you could give them ‘mud’ or ‘ice’ for Norse as a SLOW ground effect which could be a type of ‘wall’ that took 5seconds to walk through and was cheaper than walls

There seems to be a possibility of Roman Gods as an expansion. Would be awesome to see Hercules verse Medusa as a campaign as well which was massive for mythology

The Major Roman Gods
Jupiter: King of the gods and ruler of the sky; equivalent to the Greek Zeus. He is the supreme protector of the state.
Juno: Queen of the gods, goddess of marriage and childbirth, and sister-wife to Jupiter.
Mars: God of war and agriculture. Considered the mythical father of Rome's founders, Romulus and Remus, he was highly revered.
Venus: Goddess of love, beauty, and fertility. She is the mythological ancestor of the Roman people through her son Aeneas.
Neptune: God of the sea, water, and horses.
Minerva: Goddess of wisdom, justice, and strategic warfare.
Apollo: God of the sun, music, archery, prophecy, and medicine.
Diana: Goddess of the hunt, wild animals, and the moon.
Vulcan: God of fire, volcanoes, and the forge.
Mercury: Messenger god, patron of commerce, travelers, and thieves.
Ceres: Goddess of agriculture and the harvest.
Vesta: Goddess of the hearth, home, and family, tended by Rome's Vestal Virgins.

Other Essential Deities
Pluto: God of the underworld and the dead.
Janus: The unique, two-faced god of beginnings, transitions, and doorways.
Saturn: An ancient god of time, wealth, and agriculture. He ruled during the mythical "Golden Age" and was celebrated during the festival of Saturnalia.
Bacchus: God of wine, agriculture, and fertility (the Roman version of the Greek Dionysus

It's Worth Disable the Special Attack of the Cyclops?

In the original game, the cyclops grab attack was always hit kill. What, against strong human unitys like elefants, was very strong.

But in the Retold version, not only was the grab attack nerfed, but the normal attack of the cyclops was buffed. The grab attack no long is Hit Kill but the normal attack now does area damange.

The normal attack of the upgraded version of the cyclops has area damange. So, if you use several of them at the same time, they can hit a entire army at the same time. But the grab animation is soo long that you lost damage by doing that, so I just disable it and find myself doing more damage.

Is there something I'm missing or is this realy this way?

Age Of Mythology Retold: A Love Letter To The Devs

As the devs often read this sub, and are on constant touch with the community on their official discord, I wanted to take the time to write them and hopefully this reaches to them.

I wanted to say thank you. You brought back many many great memories by investing in this game. I know AoE 2 is their most succesful and most active game, but AoM has something special that many can't find in AoE or even other RTS.

Of course I won't tell you every single detail about my personal story with this game, because you'd be either bored or end up crying, but to summarize it, I played the OG back then and it served as a shelter when things weren't easy. Retold came out when I was fighting a serious illness and couldn't even stand, so I couldn't do much but play while I recovered.

The fact that they keep expanding it with not only new civs, but campaigns for each new one and 4th Gods, makes me incredibly happy.

I just wanted to say thank you, thank you for listening, thank you for reading us, thank you for your work even though results weren't guaranteed, thank you for releasing this gem, and hopefully, thank you for keep expanding it further.

I hope we get a confirmation of some type, but even if the game is done, I'll keep on playing it for many, many, many years. (Shit it's been 20 and I still dig skirmish against the AI)
