Bilstein B6 vs B4 longevity and ride quality?

Some people claim that the monotube designs on the B6 should last longer than B4’s twin tube, but realistically how much difference in longevity is there? I would be keeping the stock M sports suspension springs. This is on an E85 3.0si; the upper strut mounts and boots are all going to be replaced as well. Am I going to regret the stiffness of the B6?

Carbon fiber cover/sticker for the A-pillar E85 triangle side mirror mount?

Mine has developed a crack and I tried patching it up with putty and the result looked terrible. If anyone has put those on their cars can you share a photo? Deciding between carbon fiber or piano black…

I got to say, older BMW seats make pretty good computer chairs.

This is...a JDM E85 normal seat converted to an office chair!

Here’s the backstory: someone asked for an update after I last posted a question about airbag and seat belt pretensioners in the normal E85 seat, so here it is. I originally got it to replace my own driver's seat, but after finding out that the junk yard just snipped off the seat belt pretensioner and CANBUS connectors so I would have to do the rewiring to the harness myself, I figured that it was too much trouble for someone who is not electrically knowledgeable enough and decided just to redye and try repairing my own seat instead. Not wanting to pay a garbage disposal fee (I live in Japan where that sort of thing, or rather every little thing, costs money) for my stupid mistake I would just try to repurpose this for an office chair.

Since I do not have the tools or know-how for metal or woodwork to fabricate a stand, I did the lazy thing and looked for conversion kits. It turned out that the Recaro SR3 seats were not overly difficult to install in E85s from a web search, and a few companies readily sold Recaro conversion kits, I decided to go that route instead.

Here were the things I ordered for this project:

  1. [Naniwaya Recaro Retroseat Stand](https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B00E9U6KGA)
  2. [12DC 5.5mm barrel jack adapter](https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B07KP2T2DH): I got the 5.5mm barrel jack type initially to use it with laptop power bricks, but went USB PD instead.
  3. [USB 5V to 12V 3A step-up adapter](https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B0F4WDQ1YT): I got this after realizing that the only laptop power brick I had was actually 19V, so as a Hail Mary I figured that I'd try USB PD instead since USB PD 3.0 supposedly supports 12V output; it turned out that this is highly YMMV as out of the a few USB PD power bricks, only an Anker 100W one will work. Model number is Anker 317 (A2672) if you are interested.
  4. several M8x40mm bolts, washers and nuts for the stand side; 40mm ended up being a bit long, 30mm should be more than fine. The stand came with 4 and I ended up using 2 more. YMMV depending on what kit you got for the stand.
  5. 4x M10x40mm bolts and nuts to secure the seat rail to the base.
  6. 180-degree universal brackets with 10mm inner diameter for bolts, like [this](https://store.shopping.yahoo.co.jp/hcbrico/4979874018366.html): the Naniwaya base was narrower than the E85 seat (distance between mounting holes from left to right is 405mm vs. about 456mm for E85, front to back is 295mm vs. about 360mm), so some additional brackets were necessary to address the size difference. I ended up moving the left side of the seat rail directly to left side of the stand and use brackets for the right side and a few other 90 degree ones for weight support, and it seemed to work fine.

For the power seat functions, I tore apart the harness and extracted the master power connector linked to the 4 motors and attached them to the 12V adapter, red to red and brown to black. Power worked fine in absence of the seat CAN controller with intermittent stops, but definitely seemed longer than 10 seconds as some references online indicated, so I just disconnected the other two connectors (they had green and gray wires, so I was honestly unsure if they were CANBUS lines which were apparently typically yellow) and left them alone.

To be honest, not sure what else to say; the pictures should be rather self explanatory. If you have questions post here and I will try to answer them.

Headlight polishing really freshens up the E85.

I unfortunately fudged it up during my first attempt with a cheapo Japanese kit and decided to take it to a detailer instead to fix the fuckup.

Repurposing a powered driver side E85 seat as office chair…are there precautions with explosives or airbag triggers I need to take/remove?

My driver seat is raggedy and I found one in a better condition from a local junkyard, but the guy that day didn’t do the actual removal so he had no idea whether any of the safety devices were left in the seat. With my current seat, once I unbolt it and remove it from my car, are there additional precautions or measures I need to take to prevent it from whatever reason going off at home?

Thanks.

r/Miata getting excited about two of Top Gear’s 50 best J-cars being Miata.

Don’t anyone tell them that the NSX also got two spots and Civics got three.
