[iOS, beta] I'm making a navigation app that gives you pleasant routes

Hi! I’m Yves, the solo developer behind Dryv.

Most navigation apps optimise for arriving as quickly as possible. But sometimes I have time, and I wanted something that gives me the scenic route, so I built Dryv for these occasions where the route is as important as the destination.

It compares the fastest route with alternatives designed to be more enjoyable to drive, then explains what each alternative offers and what the detour costs.

I’m not looking for generic “looks good” feedback. The most useful test is very specific:

  • Choose a journey or loop on roads you already know
  • Compare the proposed routes
  • Rate whether each route option feels good or bad (there's a reason picker for bad)
    • I'm interested in what you think about the quality of the generated explanations too and if you find that some kinds of places are missed.
  • If possible, start navigation and drive one of them (I use it as my standard GPS app now, even for the fastest route, and it works very well)

If Dryv recommends a bad alternative, that is exactly what I want to hear. Was it boring, stressful, unnecessarily long, on the wrong kind of road, or simply not worth the extra time?

I initially tuned the routing around the Alps and Jura as that's around where I live. Now I need to learn whether those choices hold up on roads elsewhere, especially routes that local drivers already understand well.

Current beta limits

iPhone only, requiring iOS 26.1 or newer

  • English only
  • Route and map coverage across Europe, the United States and Japan
  • Search does not yet support street numbers or businesses, so it's street names and city/town/village names for now
  • Route planning and rerouting require an internet connection
  • Navigation currently uses more battery than I think it should
  • No live traffic

No account is required. You can rate routes directly in the comparison screen and add details when something is wrong.

I read the feedback personally and will answer questions here. Honest negative feedback is particularly useful.

Auto Transmission Hate

Before I bought my e85 and got into the z4 community i never knew how much hate their would be for the automatic transmission. Mine is an auto, I was ok with a stick, not great. At the time i was looking for a z4 for a good deal, not really by if it was stick or auto, and id hate to pour a lot of money into mods and just get mocked at in meets. Thoughts?

E89 roof issue with boot hatch

Hello all, my e89 has developed a bit of a roof issue lately.

When putting the roof down, it seems like the roof doesn’t sit properly in the boot, causing the boot lid to struggle to close, the video kind of shows the roof not sitting level in the boot, I know the few second delay for the hatch to fully close is normal, but the time before this, the hatch clunked when closing.

When I then open the roof again, there is a knock sound coming from the hatch, which to me gives the impression that the latch is under a bit of pressure from the roof not sitting properly in the boot.

Any ideas what could be the issue? Maybe just some adjustment? I won’t use the roof again until it’s been worked on, I plan to take it to the Zed shed in the UK to get a bunch of preventative maintenance done to it

2003 2.5L Z4 5spd w/ 160k miles

hey all,

looking at the above car, guy is asking about 4500, titanium silver on black interior (exact spec i want), i’m going to check it out this friday, looks pretty clean, dude says it runs and drives fine.

i have sizeable experience working on the M54 engine due to being a big E46 guy, so not too worried about the normal stuff with buying a BMW from that generation, but i was curious about:

  1. is there anything Z4 specific i should look out for?

and

  1. does 4-4.5k sound reasonable assuming everything else is more or less fine?

unsure of what the market is quite like on these, it sounds reasonable to me but id like to ask the pros. thank you for any insight.

and as a note, i would of course love to get a higher trim z4 (hope to one day snag an z4m) but in this moment in time my budget is 5k or under so 2.5L will have to fit the bill

Sew on leather steering wrap on my Z4

The steering wheel isn’t original to the car either so bonus points if you can guess what the car is.

Love the way the leather feels and thinking about doing this mod to my other vehicles.

Z4M or SDrive35i 6SP MT?

Hey all,

I've been shopping for a 2006-2008 z4m for a while now. Have test drove some. Love it.

But I've seen some 35i's in my area that look pretty nice too and some of the color options are gorgeous. I'd be getting the 6 speed manual transmission. And I'd definitely be doing some tuning to bring the HP up.

What I'm looking for is something that's quick and sporty, but I can bring to car shows and have something unique.

What are your thoughts comparing the two?

Edit - For the M I'd be looking at the roadster not the coupe.

E89 Z4 Atacama Yellow for sale

I’m thinking of selling my z4 since I haven’t been driving it much since I bought the car two years ago. Bought it with 57k miles and currently at 62k miles. Currently the car sits on e92 m3 219m 18’m wheels with fresh P4S rubber. If anyone wants any photos or more details on the car feel free to reach out. The car is currently in NYC.

The car was sold on cars and bids 5 years ago and I bought it from them.

0-100 E85

What's your 0-100 km/h time?

Curious, because my 3.0i automatic seems slightly off the spec.

A 2003 E85 3.0i 5-speed automatic with 81k km.

17 inch wheels.

0-100 km/h as measured with a timer and a speedometer: 7.1 sec with DSC off. Made several checks.

Ambient temp. 21-24 Celcious when measured (70-75 F).

The car is equiped with lighter 17 inch forged wheels, so definitely not the excess rotating mass effect.

What's been previously done:

New spark plugs.

Replaced oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter.

Serviced the gearbox and the main gear.

No service errors.

The pistons have been visually checked with a camera as a pre-purchase inspection. Compression haven't been measured.

The servicemen said DISA & Vanos are OK, no replacement needed.

The spec is around 6.2-6.4 sec. The numbers and the impression is that the car slightly lags in the low RPMs but I am not sure.

Any thoughts on what could be the issue?

What are your normal 0-100 times?

Is that smth uncommon to have a 7+ sec for a 23 y.o. E85? Given a relatively low mileage and quite a comprehensive service.

AI suggests that it is likely VANOS or DISA...

Z4M exausts

Looking to put an exhaust on my Z4M, has anyone had any experience with them? Looking for high quality, but also open to exausts that are cheaper and better bang for the buck. Thanks!

2007 3.0si w/130k miles

Hey all, im checking out a 3.0si with 130k miles on it tomorrow. Buyer wants 7.5k.

Its California owned and had a spark plug change, ignition coil change, new control arm bushings, new valve cover and oil filter and cooler housing seal put in at 99k miles in 2018. Other than that im not sure whats its maintenance history is like.

Are there any red flags I should be looking out for? Does it seem like a good deal?

Thanks for your help!
