Question for employees: tipping expectations

Just realized at every place I stay, I ask them to hold bags on both ends of trip ( I arrive mondays around 10 and leave Fridays around 4). I dont request early or late checkin/out.

Have I been a jerk for not tipping front door for checking suitcase?

For reference I usually stay at hilton/canopy/doubletree tier locations.

Hilton St. Charles, NOLA

Just a heads up, hotel has begun major renovations and lobby is closed as are most of the floors. Rooms that are available are hit or miss on QC (no hot water in our first room, but they made it right and just minor qc issues in newly upgraded room).

But they still upcharge the destination fee (25USD) for free wifi, coffee in lobby and $10 fnb credit.

Bet it will look great when they are done though!

Part-time an option for perks?

I am staying 3-4 weeknights each week in the New Orleans CBD. Was thinking about a negotiated rate, however it occurred to me I have every day after 4pm free, so why not make use of that time and pull a part time gig at a Hilton brand?

  1. Is that reasonable with availability only Mon-Thurs after 4pm?

  2. Would that actually do anything to mitigate the cost of living in hotels 100+ nights a year?

Any tips for 3-4 nights a week stays?

I'm a new 'super commuter' and Aspire Diamond. So 3-4 nights a week for sure in the same city (New Orleans) and looking for tips on booking stays.

Right now I am just booking more than 7 days out for the non-refundable discount, and that seems to bring many of the brands into the same price range. As such I am exploring them to see which are a good fit. However, I do notice in future months the prices are going to swing quite a bit from week to week.

Any tips on securing consistent rates or specific 'need to ask' things for repeat stays?

Are negotiated rates even a thing in downtown New Orleans?
