Desk Tank

Hey everyone. I want a tiny shrimp tank for my desk. I work at a public school in LA. I was going to do a Walstad tank because the power goes out ALL the time. It's pointless to try for air pumps, filters, and heaters. My main concern is temp fluctuations. The air conditioner does not run at night. It's not on a thermostat. It's only on when we're there using the classroom. Would my shrimp be able to survive these fluctuations? Also, even though it's Louisiana, we do get the occasional cold snap. Most of the time the heater is on the fritz, but it only stays cold for a few days. I'm also open to snails or any other kind of creature you can think of that could survive the temp fluctuations in a small tank. I'm not totally new to aquariums. I just never had one in a place I couldn't control the environment.

What do you think about using silicone molds as water dishes? They are soft and shallow so my isopods won't drown either.
