Combating insurance denial

FYI My dental insurance TWICE denied the necessity of the crown I just had done even after the dentist submitted X-rays and chart notes. So…. I called and asked for the name, type of license, license # and state of the dentist who denied the claim. Boy did they give me the run around. Escalated up three people to a guy who said he could see there was no fracture. I asked his license # and he said “he has had training.” I asked what kind. Turns out it was from one time when he had a crown and his dentist showed him. What a joke! He said he would ask the dentist again to give a narrative (probably cause they can’t read an xray). I told him ok. One more time but if it gets denied again, I want that info. My dentist is thrilled I’m doing this. They tried telling me it was against HIPPA to give me the info. I said how? I’m the patient.

If we all start asking for this info on denials, it helps the providers and we need to start holding them responsible.

Anyway, we should all start doing this to hold the deniers personally responsible by getting the name of the denier.

Hypoxia on standing

My husband gets lightheaded and his O2 sat drops to 80- 75ish every time he stands. Everyone keeps telling us how unusual this is. It’s not orthostatic hypotension (BP ok but HR 100). PT talked us into buying a very expensive pulse oximeter “ ring”, that sits above his knuckle on his thumb, to make sure we are getting a good reading (compared to fingertip). The advantage is that it pairs with a device so there is a history of when it happens. Now we know he doesn’t have sleep apnea. Pulmonologist and cardiologist both ruled out lungs and heart. He’s doing sitting and laying exercises but now he has to be in a wheelchair.
