Tires

I had a great experience at Discount Tire yesterday after a terrible one the last time I was there. For context, about 18 months ago I had a nail in my tire and went to Discount Tire. They repaired the tire only after telling me that tread depth was at 7/32 and it was urgent that I replace my tires. This was while standing in front of a poster that clearly said that was not the case (poster showed different tread depths and stated when to replace). He went on to give me a lecture about how ev's eat up tires and 24,000 miles, which is where I was at that time, was the standard replacement mileage for my car. I had been to the dealer to have the tires rotated a couple of months before that and knew that I was nowhere near the end of life for these tires so to say I was annoyed would be putting it mildly. I swore I would never go back to Discount Tires.

Recently, thanks to a post on this sub, I saw that Tire Rack had OEM Pirellis on clearance. Discount Tire was the only place near me to have them shipped for mounting. The price difference between the other tires I had been researching and these made the decision to go back to Discount Tires a little easier. I am at 42,000 miles, drive very conservatively and had even wear on all four tires and they were ready to be replaced although it was still not urgent. The Service Advisor at the dealer at 40,000 miles told me I had another 8 to 10,000 miles before I hit the wear marks on these tires. Have I mentioned how much I love my service advisor at Texan Hyundai south of Houston? I drive 70 miles each way and pass four other Hyundai dealers to have service done at Texan Hyundai. I've had the tires rotated every 5,000 miles since I purchased the vehicle and all of the other service bulletins and maintenance has been done there.

Purchased the tires online at Tire Rack, had them delivered to Discount and set up an appointment for 9:00 a.m. yesterday. Got to Discount about 10 minutes early, and the process was seamless. In spite of the fact it was a holiday for a lot of people and there were probably 60 people in the waiting area when I got there, apparently having an appointment is the key. I had time for one cup of coffee before they finished. They had me driving out of Discount Tire by 9:46. I asked the Discount Tire employee who helped me, if they could tell from inspecting the tires whether there was any sign of degradation due to improper storage since the manufacturer date was 2022. He went and got the manager and they inspected the tires with an installer and the manager came back and said that of course he couldn't guarantee anything but he saw nothing that would concern him.
