LPT it’s worth the effort to learn how to whistle loudly using your fingers (or not).

I went for long walks and taught myself how to whistle loudly. Put two fingers (thumb, plus pointer or middle) in your mouth, on your bottom lip, then put the underside of the tip of your tongue against your fingers… then blow. Try again. Try again. Eventually you will be able to whistle very loudly. Very useful for silencing a crowded room, getting someone’s attention from far away, and generally impressing people with a basic skill. Good luck!

Here all week but lifts are closed…what should we do?

Moderately athletic group of five adults who enjoy hiking but are certainly not hard core mountaineers. Staying all week, leaving Saturday. Didn’t realize most of the lifts would be closed and that other activities haven’t opened up for the season. Sigh. We don’t have a car.

Suggestions for beautiful hikes that will push us but not kill us? We could probably do one or two 6-mile hikes with elevation gain. Also, suggestions for mellow walks are welcome.

For context, in Italy we did a challenging Refugio Bertone out of Courmayeur, then the next day walked the mellow road north from Planpincieux north up the valley.
