Santa Marta - Colombia

Hello everyone, i’m a 27 y/o canadian who just booked his first solo trip to Santa Marta. I’m looking for a mix of beaches, mountains/hiking, a little bit of party and cool calesthenics/workout spots. In previous trips, i spent a lot of time and energy moving around and trying to see more places, so I decided this trip I’d stay in the same airbnb or hostel and use it as base for day trips.

I’m a little bit worried because i’m reading very negative comments about Santa Marta, especially about it’s security and the vibe of the place overall. Kind of scared I chose a bad place to spend money for a trip. I don’t mind the place being old and a broken a little, i’m more worried about not being able to walk arounf freely or having to stay away from certain blocs.

Does anyone have recommendations about:

  1. Day trips (I have Minca, Tayrona, Palomino)?
  2. Safest areas to stay?
  3. Any other commenta regarding solo travelling in Colombia?

Thank you!!

Edit: i’m pretty street smart, i won’t buy drugs or go in sketchy places on purpose.

Solo travel - Santa Marta

Hello everyone, i’m a 27 y/o canadian who just booked his first solo trip to Santa Marta. I’m looking for a mix of beaches, mountains/hiking, a little bit of party and cool calesthenics/workout spots. In previous trips, i spent a lot of time and energy moving around and trying to see more places, so I decided this trip I’d stay in the same airbnb or hostel and use it as base for day trips.

I’m a little bit worried because i’m reading very negative comments about Santa Marta, especially about it’s security and the vibe of the place overall.

Does anyone have recommendations about:

  1. Safest areas where to stay? Hostels or Airbnb?
  2. Nicest beaches and day trips? I got Minca and Tayrona noted.
  3. Easiest ways to meet people?

Thank you!
