Central America trip during September

My partner and I are planning a trip to central america, we like experiencing new cultures, good food and clear water. My options are Puerto Viejo/Limon Costa Rica, Antigua and Lake atitlan Guatemala, Roatan Honduras, Ambergis Caye Belize, Bocas del Toro Panama, Peru (Lima and cusco).

We're worried about hurricane season and rain and vibes in general. What place is most beautiful during this time? There's mixed answers on the Internet. Or is central america just not worth it during this time and I should do a February trip instead?

Should I do Albania or Italy instead?

Sending items to Honduras

Hi everyone! I have a question… I have a family member being deported there and we are going to send him a package to help he as comfortable as possible. What are some things that aren’t available in Honduras that helps a lot to send over? We are sending over basic necessities like hygiene items like soap, shampoos, toothpaste and tooth brushes as well as socks and clothing. I want to send over an IPad but will it work? I’m not sure if there are certain blockages where they won’t be able to use certain apps like Netflix, or YouTube, ect.

Where to stay in Nicaragua?

My girlfriend and I are doing a 7-week South America trip and on our way home we're stopping for 8 days in Nicaragua. We're looking for it to be our chill, warm, beach part to end our adventurous trip. We're not surfers, we're just looking for somewhere to hang out by the beach and relax.

We are thinking Popoyo but are there any other beach towns that aren't completely remote?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Looking for some travel advice for Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala

Hey folks, I am super keen on planning a trip in November for ~3 weeks and want to go to Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Guatemala, mainly for surfing but also to see the countries. My plan is to fly into Nicaragua and then El Salvador --> Guatemala (or the inverse). Just wondering about travel options between the countries not by plane, I've heard that buses and boats are pretty popular. Also maybe a rough idea of how much a week in each country would cost (trying to make it fairly affordable). Cheers.

Going to Costa Rica first 2 weeks of August . Trying to pack as little as possible and thus us my first time . Would appreciate suggestions. Do I need to wear long pants because of mosquitos ? Also heard it is rainy season so considering buying a packable rain jacket . Do I also need to take a compact umbrella? Also should I just pack short sleeves and tanks or will I need long sleeves ! Thinking if 2-pairs of utility pants 1 pair of leggings and one lounge isn’t I can also sleep in . Too much ?

What place made you think…Why isn’t everyone talking about this?

We’ve all heard about the famous expat destinations. I’m more interested in places that completely exceeded your expectations but rarely get mentioned online. Where was it, and what made it special?

Advice for bringing a tent for hiking in central america

Hey everyone. My partner and I have been travelling around South America for the last 4 months and have brought a tent from home which we have used many times for self-guided hikes and at campsites as cheap accomodation. We are meeting up with a friend from home soon and then will be continuing on to Central America. We are wondering whether it’s worth bringing the tent to Central America as well or whether we should send our camping gear home with our friend (planning on travelling to Mexico, Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador and Costa Rica). Are there many hikes you can do self guided/ is it safe to hike self-guided? Do you think having our own tent would be valuable? lightening our packs would obviously be great but we want to make sure we won’t miss the tent!

Thanks

Are immunisations absolutely necessary?

I’ve just been quoted hundreds of dollars for malaria and rabies vaccines. Are they absolutely necessary? Would appreciate perspectives of people who have actually been.

Guatemala - Volcán de Fuego - worth it?

I am planning a trip to Guatemala for October (based around a friend’s wedding). I for sure want to do Tikal and have about a week in total.

I heard the volcano is both incredible and incredibly touristy - would love to know if people think it’s worth it or if it’s just a little too full of other travellers to really enjoy the experience.

Also would love tips on other things not to miss especially if it was something you felt surprised by / was a little off the beaten track :)

Urlaub in Guatemala

Lake Atitlan Guatemala Hostel Pre-Booking inquiry

I will be traveling to Guatemala in August and visiting lake Atitlan for a week. I would like to keep things spontaneous. Should I pre book the hostels or will most places have availability the day of?

Travel between Antigua and Central America

Hi there! My partner and I are wanting to visit Antigua (in the Caribbean) next year in July to visit our friend who lives there. We are coming from Australia and we want to travel a little bit in Mexico and the central americas either before or after. Are there any tips for how to travel between Antigua and the surrounding countries. Ideally we want to avoid having to fly through America, is this possible?

Is Antigua Guatemala Central America's Top Solo Travel Destination? 🇬🇹

According to travel websites such as Solo Traveler World and The Broke Backpacker, Antigua Guatemala is one of the most solo-traveler-friendly destinations in Central America.

From my own experience interacting with travelers in Antigua, I've noticed that a large percentage of visitors arrive on their own. The city's walkability, traveler community, cafés, hostels, Volcanoes and tours seem to make it easy for solo travelers to connect with others.

Have you visited Antigua solo?

What was your experience?

Experience with El Ceibo Border Crossing (Tabasco/Petén)?

I’ll be visiting Chiapas (Sancris + Palenque) and Guatemala (Flores + Antigua) on a solo backpacking trip in November. I have heard about overland tourist shuttle services offered between Palenque and Flores, which operate through the El Ceibo crossing.

My government has this crossing (and I think all other Guatemalan land border crossings) listed as a Level 3 risk, meaning to avoid unnecessary travel. However I’ve read online that it’s not a problem if you travel during the day and are aware of common scams.

Anybody have any experience with this crossing or these shuttle services, especially during the last year? Or anybody familiar with the region have any insights to share?
