"Jongeren", vreemde woordkeuze

"Jongeren", vreemde woordkeuze

Tywin and the trial

I was thinking about this part of the plot again and found many posts and comments discussing whether Tywin wanted to kill Tyrion or not. I see a lot of people saying that he used the events to get rid of Tyrion, but I think Jaime was his primary focus here.

To me, it always felt like Tywin never really believed Tyrion killed Joffrey and just used the opportunity to make a deal with Jaime so he could finally become an heir instead of Tyrion. Tywin obviously enjoys messing with Tyrion and wouldn't mind getting him out of his sight, but I don't think he planned the entire trial just to achieve this. He probably expected Jaime to come and try to save his brother. That's why he agreed to Jaime's terms without even thinking about it for one second.

He never anticipated Tyrion demanding a trial by combat and probably just waited to see how it would turn out, before coming up with a plan B.

I still think he would've prevented Tyrion's execution in some way. It just doesn't make sense in my opinion for Tywin to let him die at that point. Having an heir is way too important for him (and Jaime would not be very obedient after his brother dies). I'm not sure why he waited so long to act. Maybe because he got sick, or maybe because he wanted Tyrion to suffer as long as possible.

I do think he was lying to Tyrion in his final moments. When Tyrion was threatening him with his life, Tyrion was probably done for.

What do you think?
