Messed around and now I’m a Brownie leader?!
I’ve been doing girlscouts for going on our second year, youngest girl just bridged to a brownie. The troop was very disorganized, meetings being cancelled the day of, we did very few activities, hardly any patches, and I felt like we weren’t getting the experience I had hoped for. My daughter loves the troop, when I suggested we switch she was not having it. So instead of being a complainer, I asked what I could do do help things run more smoothly, and was told I can be a brownie level leader for about 4-5 girls. I have no idea what I’m doing. We never received any books, and any information I wanted to know (like how to sell cookies) I had to ask a lot of questions. I’m super busy and was hoping to just show up and have my girl learn and make friends, but meetings (when they happen) are things like make a craft, or just announcements because no one planned anything. Bridging took over a month because of cancelled meetings, forgetting to bring things when we did have a meeting, and I was confused and had to ask “what is bridging, and how do I prepare?” I felt like I was supposed to know all these things magically, and it was difficult to ask questions because of lack of meetings. Anyway, since we signed up for another year, and I saw things were going poorly again, I offered my help asking if there was anything that I could do, and this is where I’m at now. I was given this ancient looking book when I asked where do I get information about being a brownies, but it looks like it’s more geared towards the individual brownie. Should I order my own information and books? Can I find all the info online? What do I do for the first meeting I am in charge of ( it will be in 3 weeks so I have plenty of time to plan ). There was no mention if I’d have to pay for my own things. What do you wish you would have known before you became a leader? Please help!!
