An observation about the player Guardian as an Exo

So, as covered by the 6th Coyote lore tab, Human and Awoken Guardians come up with their own name, but Exo Guardians remember their names.

It's so consistent that Felwinter not remembering his name was considered a very strange event.

Now, this brings to us, the player Guardian, who everyone just calls "the Guardian." Probably because we're the shit and there's nothing else to call us because we haven't picked a name yet.

But if your character is an exo, they remember their name! They just won't tell anyone for no reason at all. Like we could be Shim-6 or whatever or Lupi-9 and nobody would ever know because we're a prick and won't tell anyone our name.

I know this obviously isn't intended, because Bungie can't account for whatever we want to call our character, but it is the end canon result that I think is funny.

A few more interesting things in the earlier stories that were never really addressed again.

I honestly debated posting this one because I got most of the interesting ones already. Although once again I found all of these interesting and wonder if they were followed up on. Some of these things are minor story element I wanted to talk about

Oryx's Orbital Taken Lasers: In the first mission of the Taken King campaign, if you look in the sky box, you can see Oryx bombing the base with Taken energy. Like damn maybe I didn't pay enough attention, to later skyboxes but this is a strong ass ability for someone to have.

Crota being Dead: A mostly unimportant thing that I don't think it's ever been concretely explained but has a probable explanation. The plot of The Dark Below revolves around the Hive's attempt to resurrect Crota. Meaning that his body was killed already before we even got there. This was probably Eriana-3, who was separated from the rest with Sai Mota. Sai died, and Eriana sent her ghost away. So it seems to be Eriana managed to solo Crota's physical form, which makes me happy that she was a big part of his ultimate death. Even if she didn't live to see it. It was either that or Starhorse I guess.

Clovis Bray traveler research: A minor one, but in a mission on Mars where we enter a Clovis Bray facility, Ghost mentions that they conducted research on the Traveler. This is sort of interesting given the context of what kind of person Clovis was, and what his interest is in it. Since we never learned of anything that came of it we can kind of assume that they didn't learn much.

Scorch Canons being Rare: A line from Variks when you first pick up a scorch canon from House of Wolves. We see them everywhere nowadays so them being apparently rare is ironic.

Calus wanting the Dreadnought: Mentioned in lore cards regarding Valus Tlu'urn. The Skyburners were ordered personally by the Emperor to board and capture the Dreadnought. I'm assuming this was Calus, but I'm not sure the timeline works. It is interesting that Calus had personal interest in its capture.

Horrors in the Acendant Plane: Mentioned by Eris and from Toland's journal. With Toland being the only one who managed to go there and come back, but he mentioned terrible things. This one may have been followed up on, I'm more just asking because I'm curious.

Preserved eyes in Warmind Bunker???: In a scannable Ghost explains that ordinarily these doors would only open with eye scans, and that someone had been using them for the last few centuries. So it was either a Guardian or someone preserving the eyes. Initially, I thought this was probably Ana, but she didn't find Rasputin until Warmind, iirc, so it probably wasn't her.

Ana's weird ass eyes: Seriously, the fact that her cyborg eyes were never addressed is kind of crazy.

Using light after Ghost has been killed: In Destiny 2 it's shown that losing your Ghost instantly cuts off access to the light with Cayde, Zavala, and Us briefly. However, Tevis continues using his bow after losing his Ghost. This one does kind of raise some questions about certian characters but I'm done arguing about Shin Malphur.

Obtaining a subclass from another Guardian: Also, for that matter, passing light from one Guardian to another hasn't happened since these subclass quests.

I was replying D1 recently and found a few interesting things that didn't come back that I wanted to talk about.

With any IP, there's always some things from early on in its lifespan that they start with but eventually forget about or deemphasize. Like for example in S1 of Avatar they hadn't figured out Iroh's character, he was a perv in S1 to June, but later they just kinda stopped doing that later because it didn't work with what they wanted to do later. Or like force speed in Star Wars.

So here's a bunch of things I've noticed in Destiny 1 that haven't come back, just for fun. If these did ever come back or were explained let me know.

Fallen Preferring darkness: happens in the first ever mission in Destiny, the House of Devils Fallen are all just hanging out in the pitch black of Cosmodrome wall, for... some reason. Which seems so weird when you think about it because they never do it again in the entire rest of Destiny 1. It's not even a House of Devils thing either because everywhere else is fully lit.

Elsie in the Cosmodrome: Given what we know now, that she really only saw promise in us in the moon, that doesn't beg the question why she was following us in the Cosmodrome. This one I think, was explained. I just couldn't remember where.

Hive Seeders: While the Hive are preparing their invasion of Earth, Ghost mentions Hive Seeders. They're these little ships that you can see in the Cosmodrome, and you can see some hanging up on the moon. Crota's Hive seem to use these to invade planets. I'm not sure we see them used again, though.

Draining the Traveler of Light: I don't think this necessarily counts, but one mission on the moon involves us stopping a light draining ritual on the moon. In retrospect, it's kinda strange how easy it seems to be and how the shard of the traveler we recover is never revisited. Probably could have saved the ass of some guardian during the Red War. Also, it seems like something the Witness should have been able to easily.

Hive immediately dying after killing a Wizard: I know Vex do it too, but that makes sense. So when you kill a wizard sometimes, all the hive around them immediately die. Was this ever explained in the lore or just a gameplay thing?

The Kell of Winter: Name a more pathetic Kell. Literally. We just show up, kill him for funsies, and leave. Never mentioned again, no feats, never mentioned before or since. Saint killing the Devil Kell was a major accomplishment. The Winter Kell? Fucking Tuesday. Sorriest Kell in Destiny. This isn't one of them I just wanted to make fun of this absolute iobber.

Variks wanting our ship: This is just a gag that I don't remember returning. Variks constantly asks about our ship, if it's in good condition and all that.

Osiris being interested in us: This was just an offhand line from Brother Vance. I'm sure this was elaborated on but I don't know where.

The Traveler preventing the Vex from taking more worlds: This was mentioned by Ghost when investigating the Vex after meeting Elsie on Venus. He basically says "they took over Mercury in days and would have spread farther if the Traveler hadn't stopped them. The Traveler stopped the Vex from taking over the Sol System? When? Was this ever elaborated on?

Osiris caring about shrines of Oryx for some reason: I think this was just Bungie wanting to use some placeholder Osiris dialogue from the Staten cut to fill out a mission but given that we know Osiris was in the infinite forest this whole time, him popping out to send us a DM about the shrines of Oryx and then just leaving again is kinda funny. Either that or it's a recording from before he left, and for some reason, nobody listened to him even though he was Warlock Vanguard.

The Darkness is coming back: A line from the Speaker. I wonder what he meant by this because they weren't. Not until after Red War did they actually start coming back.

This was a fun little trip for me. I'm not sure what the point of this is I just wanted to talk about it.
