Stupid AM/PM time format

Does anyone else find the US AM/PM time format in iNaturalist annoying?

In almost the entire rest of the world the 24 hour clock is used and that is therefore what I would expect to see on any international app if not as standard, then at least as a display option!

If there is a way to switch it to a 24h time display, I haven't managed to find it.

Post food poisoning BS disruption

I have been fasting daily since 1st Jan 2026, from the last thing I eat before going to bed until 15h00 or sometimes later. The effect on my blood sugar has been positively miraculous.

A few weeks back, I went for a trip to visit friends in the south of France where I somehow contracted a Campylobacter gut infection. For eight days, I had nausea and diarrhoea BIG TIME! I wasn't able to eat for 8 days and even when I saw a doctor and was treated with antibiotics, my blood sugar was all over the place; so much so, that I was hospitalized for three days for observation.

Even now, several weeks later my blood sugar is still not back to what was normal before the Campylobacter infection although my CRP is now back in normal range (it had gone into the 100s!), my BS much higher and more erratic especially in the morning when the usual liver dumping, which used to be 100 - 125 (5.6 - 7.0) now goes to 180 (10 mmol/mol ) or even higher.

Has anyone else had this kind of experience?

Daily Fasting

Before I go any further, I want to emphasise that this is NOT advice or a suggestion that other people should follow!

At the beginning of this year, I went on a daily fast diet such that I don't consume anything other that black coffee and water before 3 in the afternoon sometimes later.

So far, I have lost a considerable amount of weight (about 4 Kg), my blood sugars have normalized such that I was able to stop injecting Ozempic 1mg, altogether and reduce my long acting insulin from 18 IUs to only 5 IUs. My triglycerides too are down to almost normal range; whereas before they were dangerously high despite taking Fenofibrate to reduce them.

I thought when I saw my endocrinologist she would give me a right ear-bashing but no, she said she was immensely enthusiastic about that sort of fasting and congratulated me on getting my HbA1c down to healthier levels.

Much to my surprise, my body adapted really well to this regime; indeed I felt much better than I have done for years on it.

If you are tempted to try anything of this sort, talk to the person who looks after your Diabetes first (do what I tell you, not what I did).

Desperate for accommodation

Since 2018, might have been fortunate enough to have been offered free accommodation in Luxembourg. Unfortunately for me, the owner of the property where I live has decided to sell up and therefore I need to find other accommodation.

At age 76, I know this is not going to be easy especially as I don't think I can afford a market price in Luxembourg in the current market. However, if anyone has any bright ideas, I would be delighted to hear of them as I am at my wits end what on earth to do.

I have, of course, already applied to my local “Office Social”, But I am far from being the only person in need of such accommodation.

Research into retiring to Cyprus

Hi folks

At the moment I live rent free in an apartment in Luxembourg. However the owner of the building has now reached an agreement to sell it and so I have to leave.

Unfortunately, my pension income is not sufficient to allow me to rent another place in Luxembourg so I have to change countries. Of British nationality, I was considering Cyprus as a retirement destination, Despite the fact that I have never visited the island (but will do shortly).

My research into alternative retirement destinations was proceeding at a leisurely pace as the landlord told me it he wouldn't need me out of my accommodation until the end of the year. However, he is now received an offer that is acceptable and the sale will therefore therefore proceed on the basis that it will only go ahead with vacant possession of the property. I therefore need to get out of here as fast as possible, suddenly!

Ideally, what I'm looking for is a small house with at least some garden and if at all possible a garage or outbuilding that I can use as a workshop as one of my hobbies is woodwork.

I don't particularly want to live in a large city, I would much prefer a small town or a large Village but one thing that is important to me is the availability of public transport to and from a large Metropolis as I am not sure how much longer I should be able to continue to drive.

Having lived in my current accommodation for 8 years, i've accumulated quite a lot of stuff that I really wouldn't want to throw away so one of the problems I have to address is how to move all that stuff from here to Cyprus so if anyone has any suggestions as to the means of doing such a move I'd be very glad to hear them.

Additionally, if anyone can suggest a particular area where I might be able to rent a house with a garage or out buildings and a bit of garden for a reasonable rent, that would be a great help. It doesn't need to be anything terribly luxurious or even in very good condition as I used to be a builder and I can do a great deal of any necessary work to make a dwelling habitable, myself.

Does anyone know if "Allo" are still in production?

I know production stopped around Covid time due to lack of components, but I heard that a new team had bought them out and that they were back in limited production now. However, searching the internet doesn't bring up anything - all the current sources are showing out of stock or discontinued.

I have an Allo Kali + Piano 2.1 and I'm very happy with them. Someone asked me if they were still available, however, I fear the answer is NO!
