An nëtt Däitsch. Och wa mäi Mammesprooch Franséisch ass. Ech hu Lëtzebuergesch vu mäer selwer um 15 Joer Aal geléiert, an ee volle Franséischschwätzenden Ëmgéigend (Ech hu méng Schoulzäit an de Lycée Vauban gemeet). An och wann ech warscheinlech ville Feeler maachen, sinn ech trotzdeem frou "Lëtzebuergesch" als mäi Sprooch ze nennen.

Et ass och ze Präziséieren datt 95% vun eisem Virfaren, den Daag vum 10 Oktober 1941 ënnert der Däitscher Besatzonk fir d'Vollekszéionk (Volkszählung) hunn, 3x Lëtzebuergesch, amplaz vun 3x Däitsch geschriwwen.

Daat alleng ass genuch ze beweisen datt, mäer Lëtzebuerger hunn och eisem eegene Sprooch, Identitéit a Geschicht. Ech gesi kéng Schimmt et ze soen, ech si houfreg Lëtzebuergesch ze dibberen.

Work chairs and back pain

Hi everyone,

I started workin in Luxembourg in December, and as my trial is coming to an end, I realized something at work: the chairs we have give me so much back pain.

I got hurt doing sports in January and I could never really recover because I spend 8 hours a day on a chair that hurts my back. As I'm still in a trial period, I can't go remote, and there is only one chair model in the whole company.

So I searched the chair on the internet: it's incredibly expensive (~900 euros iirc). Made by a swiss designer, it's famous for its design but also for its bad ergonomics (no lower back support, no neck support...), even if it meets the minimal required job ergonomics (5 wheels...).

I'm almost 1m90 and even screens can't be adjusted high enough, same thing for the desk (which I could exchange with another that is adjustable: not all of them are apparently). My workplace isn't optimized for my health, and with this back problem I have, I'm afraid I will never recover properly if I don't do something.

What do you think I can do ? I haven't asked anyone yet because I don't know what I can legally ask for: can I request a new chair that fits my needs ? Should I buy a new chair myself ? Can my managers say they don't care and leave me with my back pain ?

Thank you

TLDR: My chair at work is terrible and gives me back pain. I'm wondering what I can do about it (asking my manager, HR, buy a new chair...)

Police making more arrests across Luxembourg as certain crimes spike—are you guys noticing more patrols in your towns?🚨🚔

Moien everyone,

I've noticed a recent uptick in police activity and arrests around Ettelbruck lately.

How do you guys feel about this? Do you think the Grand Ducal Police are finally stepping up their presence and doing more patrols in the area, or is it just business as usual?

Curious to hear if anyone else has noticed a change or has any thoughts on the security situation here.

Hi,
we’re four guys, and we’ve put together Westminster’s restaurant scene in an app called Vota. The concept is simple: you see two places side by side (for example Famille vs. Kachina Southwestern Grill), you choose the place you’d rather go to, and the ranking updates instantly. The more people vote, the more accurate the list gets over time. There are still a few duplicates here and there, but I’m continuously cleaning up the data.

Here’s the iPhone version, with categories that actually fit Westminster’s food scene:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota-restaurant-ratings/id6744969212

And here’s the Android version (finally live):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

P.S. I’m not from Westminster (I live in Gothenburg). I’m not collecting data, not selling anything, and the app does not use AI-generated content. I’m posting in a few different subreddits because we now support more regions, and I genuinely want honest feedback from people who actually know the area.

Why don't the regions around Luxembourg profit more from their geographic location?

Luxembourg is in the centre of a triangle of three countries: Germany, France and Belgium.
The Grand Duchy is the richest state in the EU, so you'd expect the other regions to also see a lot of impact from such developments.

However, the neighbouring regions are all mostly doing badly:

- The Eifel region in Germany is a relatively poor region for Western German standards

- the Belgian Luxembourg province is the worst doing part of the already economically weak Wallonia

- the northern part of Lorraine is also not really having an economic boom. Sure, it's a bit better than the German and Belgian counterparts, but considering it has a big economy of it's own and should profit the most from it's proximity to Luxembourg (Thionville and Metz are really close and have decent infrastructure connecting them to Lux).

Why is that?
Is it because the economic structure of Luxembourg doesn't allow for such a thing to happen, or is it because local politicians can't see or use the opportunities?
I'd argue, for example, that the Eifel region would profit massively if it advertised itself as a go to region for Luxembourgers to live there and pay less for an appartment or house, but also do an initiative that expands existing cities to cater to Luxembourgers. Part of it is also a result of neglect from higher up, i think. For example, to this day there is no direct fast link between Cologne and Luxembourg, because the A1 motorway still isn't completed. Same goes for train connections.

Proper Quality/Price balanced Barbershop

Hi, I am new in the city, many barbershops are very expensive here. Any recommendations where it's worth having it in Luxembourg?

€1,400+ to cancel your internet contract. End Luxembourg's 24-month telecom lock-in.

Did you know your internet contract with POST, Orange, or Tango locks you in for 24 months? If you cancel early, the provider charges you the full remaining months. On a €60/month plan, cancelling on day one costs ~€1,440 plus other fees.

If you don't want to hand over your money for nothing, sign the petition: https://www.petitiounen.lu/en/petition/4019

Extra virgin oil

Hi everyone, my name is Davide. I recently moved to Luxembourg, but my family owns olive groves in Liguria, Italy, where we produce high-quality extra virgin olive oil made from Taggiasca olives.

Our olive groves are still in production, and I’m currently looking for potential people here in Luxembourg who would be interested in tasting authentic Italian Taggiasca.

Do you have any suggestions on how I could find people or introduce the product locally? Any advice, contacts, or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Buying apartment in Luxembourg with tenants living in- pros and cons

Hello,

I spotted an apartment in Luxembourg, and I would like to visit and in case I like it, I want to make an offer for buying it.

Today I contacted the agent and while talking he confirmed that the apartment will be sold with the current tenants, who are supposed to vacate the apartment within 6 months.

I have 0 experience in buying in Luxembourg, and moreover with tenants!

Any of you has been in the same situation? Can you share your experience?Pros and Cons.

What does the law foresee in these cases?

Many Thanks for your help
