Is it normal for the Faculty of Humanities to have no official classes schedule for the first week of each term?

I am an incoming graduate student and noticed that my schedule is always empty the first week of a new term?

Does anyone, who has submitted deferral request for the start date of their graduate program, know when deferrals will be granted? I submitted my deferral request in early July (deadline was the 1st of this month I believe), and I am just wondering when I would hear back?

Hey, I am a 23-year old international student in Canada and have been for the past 4 years, and I am currently spending one year (until September 2027) in the Netherlands for research studies.

In September 2027 I will return to Canada, to continue my studies at UBC. Some people, on Reddit, advised me to transfer all my funds out of my Canadian account. I believe that might be a bit excessive? Especially since I would pay high transfer fees on an amount below $1000 just to transfer it back in July/August 2027. I was wondering if anyone had any advice or tips when it comes to this?

PS: I do not plan on using my RBC cards while in Europe/outside of Canada. I have a European bank account with cards that I am using while I am in Europe.

This is a questions specifically for Canadian Master students studying at UvA (or other people who have completed their Bachelor in Canada). I am in the process of getting my documents (official transcript and diploma) send to UvA to complete my process for the Master of Media Studies.

My old school (UBC) only offers a service for transcripts and a "letter of program completion" to be sent to other instiutions, not the diploma. When I asked about it they replied that my official transcript and lett of completion include all the important information about program completion and graduation. Does anybody know if just submitting a letter of completion as proof of having a diploma will therefore be enough?

I recently graduated from UBC. I am set to return to UBC for the Master of Journalism, in September 2027 (I already got accepted in the program, and deferring by one year). The year inbetween now and my return to UBC, I will spend at the University of Amsterdam, where I will be enrolled as a student in a 1-year research program.

My question now is: Is being a student in the Netherlands (as an international student in Canada, so no citizen or pr) enough to maintain my RBC student status and if so, can I submit proof of my studies (proof of enrollment, etc.) online over my RBC account?

I recently got granted a deferral to push the start of my program by one year. However, when I went to write the email today to the person responsible for deferral in said program, I received an automated reply that they will be out of office until early of July. I know for undergrad the deadline is July 1st, but I couldn't find any exact date for graduate level deferral. Does anyone know if there is a deadline?

I received a room with UOWO for my 1-year Master Program in Amsterdam next academic year. I am however a bit confused by the offer. I was an exchange student living in university housing (De Key) already in 2025 (until July) and thaught if you live in Dutch student housing once you can't return?

I am very grateful for the room, but just confused as to how I am eligible for one and kinda scared that they will take it away again :(

yesterday I bought a ticket for me and my girlfriend over my RyanAir account to fly to Portugal together. I booked both tickets over my account, buzt obviously put her name as the second passenger.

Here is the thing though: we are flying out of different airports, but roughly at the same time. So I won't be with at the airport, but as far as I understood you need the RyanAir App to board. What is the best way to go about this? Can you have the RyanAir apps logged into the same account on two phones?

I moved out of my student housing in Amsterdam last year (after being there on exchange for 6 months). Since I left very quickly, I wrote a letter to the municipality of Amsterdam containing all necessary information (as outlined on their website to inform them about me moving out of the country and my new address). Today (almost 10 months after I moved out) the same letter appeared in my mail box with the stamp that it couldn't be delivered.

Obviously my first reaction was do draft a new letter and send it first thing tomorrow morning. In the mean time I was wondering though if there would be any conscequences to this? Any late penalty or any fees that I have to pay that got issued to my name, because they assumed I still lived there? (By now a new person lives in my studio, if that is any help lol)

I stumbled upon this Madras shirt by Abercrombie and I am quite a fan of it and wanted to get it. I am wondering though if it is "real" madras. Madras Is/was always more of a "high-end" fabric, for me, utilized by Brooks Brothers or Ralph Lauren, so I am confused as to how such a more casual brand can offer madras for a relatively cheap price?

My study permit is expiring shortly, but I wanna remain in the country for graduation. It is not yet clear if I will return to Canada for my Masters studies in September 2026, but there is a 50/50 chance. Should I apply for a visitor status and over the summer if I decide to return to Canada, apply for a brand new study permit from outside Canada OR should I simply extend my study permit now for the case that I return in September 2026 and just "cancel" my study permit if I don't return? (if that is even possible with out a negative impact on future study permit requests of me)
