Ex Intern with NUS and UNSW looking for Research Internships before MSc

Hey yall, Im planning to apply for and (hopefully) join UvA Msc AI fall 2027, but wanted to see if i can gain any experience in research labs before hand to get some familiarity and rapport with the department.

I have checked but couldnt find any formal process for applying for a research internship in the fields of AI / Diffusion modelling etc. If anyone has any leads or connections with professors I would be grateful to know.

Thanks again for the help!

UvA Psychology work load and international students

Hi, i've been offered a place at UvA to study psychology but i would like to know how its like as an international student with no one familiar around you, managing living alone in a new city with people speaking a different language and balancing your studies with your daily chores, navigating areas, grocery shopping, cleaning etc whilst also having fun, if anyone could please tell me about their experience(the amount of work load the university gives, how difficult it is to score well in exams, how often they go out, experience in general) it'll be really helpful! And i would also like to know what kinds of events the university hosts, how the student life is etc etc

Examinations Board Appeal

Hi, I was wondering how effective making an appeal to the examination board is? I was rejected from the Economics Masters for not having sufficient maths in my degree (EBE bachelor at the VU) and I wanted to try and appeal the decision. Does anyone have experience with making an appeal? Are they lenient when it comes to appeals or is there something specific they tend to reply to?

What study strategies work the best?

hii! i'm a psychology student in the netherlands, and i wanted to ask fellow students what study strategies worked best for them when they were studying. My main strategies are reading through everything, attending all the lectures and re-writing concepts, however this is time consuming which i accept and im ok with as well! but sometimes this strategy is really a hit or miss! is there any tips anyone else has to recieve good grades and any tips that helped while studying?

I used to study in the CBSE system, so coming to the dutch system is vastly different for me! so any help is appreciated, thank you! :)

UvA students working on a petition to create healthier environment in supermarkets :)

Hi everyone,

We are third-year bachelor students at UvA working on a project about how supermarkets shape what people eat.

While creating our project, we found that supermarkets are not really neutral spaces. More specifically, product placement, checkout snacks, and promotions strongly influence what people buy, and often, the less healthy options are the most visible and heavily promoted. (You can see it very clearly with BONUS discounts in Albert Heijn stores)

So we have started a small petition called “Make the supermarkets healthier”. The things we demand with our petition are:

  1. Making healthier products more visible at eye level

  2. Removing candy and sugary drinks from the checkout area

  3. Focusing more promotions on healthy food

  4. Requiring mandatory Nutri-Score labels on food products

So, if you support the idea and our vision for the healthier supermarkets, here is the link to the website and petition with more information about our project:

Thank you in advance for your contribution! :)

Anyone studying AI/Informatica/Informatiekunde at UvA?

Haii, is anyone here studying AI, Informatica, Informatiekunde at UvA?

I’m trying to decide between them and would love to hear what the studies are actually like. The quality of the courses, workload, overall experience...

Residential campus fee - where the hell do I pay it???

Hey everyone, I've been accepted to AUC liberal arts and sciences and today is the last day to pay the residential campus fee but I cannot find *where* do you pay it? I haven't been sent a payment link and in none of the UvA accounts or platforms do I see the options - in the AUC Portal I only see the option for course registration.

What should I do? What am I missing?

Thank you!!

UPDATE: Issue solved!:)

Accepted to PPLE, but no housing… worth coming?

Hey everyone,

I know this is probably the 1000th housing question... I’m from Finland and I got accepted to the PPLE bachelor’s program. Excited, but I don’t have housing yet. I know Amsterdam’s housing shortage is beyond cooked and I’ve been diligently searching though it’s still early.

I’m also pretty broke, which doesn’t make things easier. Do you think it’s even worth coming without a place lined up? Or would it actually be easier once I’m in the Netherlands and can do viewings in person?

questions from upcoming computational social sciences student at UvA

I'm about to graduate high school and I'm going to study computational social sciences at UvA, but since this programme is kind of niche, there isn't a lot of info on it online so maybe someone who is studying css rn can help me out. 😊🤞

  1. This might sound stupid but how are the holidays there. I'm used to having 1-2 weeks off school every 6 weeks or so but from what I can see there are only 3 total weeks of holidays excluding summer break. Ofc I know you don't have as many classes a week as at school, but still, do people not get burnt out or something?

  2. From what I've heard there are no exams in this course?? Because it's projects based. I was wondering if you then just attend class regularly for the whole year even when other students have their exam weeks/resits.

  3. I've also heard that there are only 2 days of classes a week? I got most of my info from reddit so I really dk. Is that true and if it is does that actually mean you only come to campus 2 days a week or are there other things besides classes/lectures that you come to campus for?

  4. What is the overall gender demographic of the class? And are the people friendly and not-stuck up there?

  5. Is this course super difficult and does it lead to sleep deprivation or is it manageable?

hello, since exams are coming up for many students, i was wondering if they are considering postponing them as many are unable to access canvas for readings and info. i am just beginning to revise for my exams in 2 weeks and cannot access any readings or assignments, i have saved many but some web classes cannot be accessed.

does anyone know if our assignments and exams will get postponed or cancelled?
