RBC Banking Advisor (remote/hybrid) — what’s the training and the actual job like?

Hey everyone,
I just got an offer from Tek Systems for a remote/hybrid RBC Banking Advisor role (the one that’s 4 days WFH and 1 day in-branch after training). Just wanted to get some honest reality checks from anyone currently in this role or who has been through it:

  1. The 7-12 weeks training: What’s the vibe like? It said it’s virtual meeting from home, just wondering if it is just audio or video meeting. How heavy is the training?

  2. Background check: Roughly how long does the screening take? I have been waiting for almost two weeks now.

  3. The hidden stuff: What are the most annoying or unexpected parts? Is it really a heavy sales grind disguised as an advisor role? What do you actually end up doing on that one in-branch day?

Appreciate any thoughts or survival tips. Cheers!

ATM just ate $5100 and restarted mid way.

I made a large cash deposit at an RBC ATM in Montreal today. The machine counted the bills, then suddenly restarted, kept the cash and returned my debit card. The deposit never appeared in my account.

I reported it immediately and RBC opened an investigation, but the estimated turnaround time is about two weeks.

Has anyone experienced this recently with RBC? How long did it take to recover your money?

Did it simply appear in your account, or did
RBC contact you?

Private Banking Associate

I just recently cleared my background check and got onboarded - I start second week September, super excited! Coming from another bank and wanted to ask about the culture and pay and had a specific question about the bonus.
My annual is $59,000 on GG10 - the offer mentioned a “bonus/short-term incentive” up to $3k - is this the annual bonus? or is it a quarterly/monthly bonus that gets paid out by the banker? and what are the typical annual standard raises like?

Thanks in advance!

Example cdv from RBC investing platform for automated calculator

Hello! Im writing an app for macOS to serve as a calculator for ACB and capital gains/losses, identifying harvestable losses as well (refer to attached pics). I would love to add automatic import support to RBC investing platform, and for that I would need an example csv showing the format of transactions so that the app can recognize it. Right now I haven't published anything, but can give away compiled versions for people to test. It's fully offline, no need to register anywhere, files stays in your Mac. Is someone interested?

advice

Hello guys,
I started with the RBC advice center last year, first with Tek and now with RBC. Starting to wonder if this is for me with the pay. I feel like it is quite low for the cost of living (I guess it's every job now in Canada). But how do you move forward to other roles? I recently completed CSC as well and would love to get into Investments. I am also a graduate in CS info systems, but with the market right now, it's almost impossible to get an entry-level IT job as well. Is there any career advice for a 25-year-old?

Charge overdraft for money I have in my account

I transferred money from my savings account to my chequing account and then used that money for a purchase.

Apparently if I make the transfer after banking hours, the bank apparently doesn’t process it until later, so their system treats my chequing account as if I didn’t have the funds available at the time of the transaction….and I got charged an overdraft fee.

Yes, it’s a small fee, but that’s not the point. I did have the money. It was in my savings account, and I transferred it to my chequing account. The bank is essentially charging me because their system processes the transfer on a different timeline than the transaction.

It’s the principle of it. Has anyone else noticed this? Because honestly, it feels like a complete scam. At this point, I feel like this should be grounds for a class-action lawsuit.

CC Payments by Cheque

I have an RBC US credit card but no US bank account to pay the bill with, so I did a manual cheque payment from CIBC USA. From what I read on Reddit, CIBC say it's a cheque payment but it's actually electronic.

Does anyone know how long the payment takes to reflect on the CC?

Since everyone is asking about salaries…

Currently a GG10 and at the very top of the pay for Zone 1 (Toronto) 49,000. Likelihood of getting a raise to mid Zone B if I get a GG09 position? 65,000-70,000

GG08

I’m currently a 9 and potentially moving to a 8. I’ve been told the promotion is being worked.

For anyone who has made the 9 → 8 move, what kind of compensation bump did you see? My base is around $74K. Mainly curious about the typical base increase.

RBC is disgusting

They care about no one, especially small business.

I own a brick and mortar small business. I had a personal and business account with RBC. Sadly, I had to file a personal consumer proposal because I was under water.

The business was doing great though.

When opening the small business account, despite my business being incorporated I was told that if I wanted to borrow money, I had to have an established business of two years. Despite the fact that I was in there to apply for the CSBFP which does not require you to be open or preexisting. I mentioned my old business which has existed for 2 years. And then was given a line of credit and a credit card.

Fast forward, I am a year into my shop being open when I file the consumer proposal. But my business account is still listed as a sole proprietor. Rbc takes every penny from my business account and closes all credits.

I go back and fourth with them for a month. They tell me multiple times that my money will be given back and my credit reinstated when they receive the articles of incorporation. After a month they tell me nope, that will not be happening after all.

I tried fighting it but there is no hope.

Do not open a business account with RBC. Branch reps know nothing. Rbc you are disgusting.

Edit: oh man! Okay, lesson learned. Do not complain on the internet. This is honestly the first time I have been ripped apart online. Definitely doesn't feel good. You guys are vicious. Whether stating facts or not, this was definitely a kick me while I am down moment.

Everything you are saying, I know. I know how it works and I know that they were well within their rights to seize those funds.

I am saying that I wasn't properly informed of products or my responsibilities when I opened the account. I was also told by multiple associates in the bankruptcy department that it would be fixed. And then it wasn't.

I am not trying to hide anything. I opened an art therapy studio for kids and people with disabilities. I over invested personally and I was not prepared financially. When I say the business was doing well, I mean I was able to pay rent and supplies and keep the lights on. RBC took $3000. That's it guys. A measly $3K. And that was enough to make my life a lot harder. And I have been working night and day all summer just to get by.

And for forks sake, yes, I am fully aware that maybe it wasn't a great business decision. But it makes people happy and helps them and I am stuck in a three year lease.

Blah blah, you don't care. That's fine. I am just trying to clear things up.

Did I fork up? Yes. Was RBC a dick about it? Also yes. I just needed to bitch and maybe inform other people about what happened so they can avoid it.

I am in fact going to go cry now. Have a nice day.

RBC no USD money orders on personal accounts

RBC now won’t issue USD (and other countries) money order on personal accounts even in USD. However, they advised me they will on business accounts. (I carry on business as a sole proprietor so it’s me in either case)The other banks don’t have this restriction. RBC couldn’t offer me a reason for this seemingly non sensical distinction. Does anyone have an idea why RBC has done this?

RBC Pilot Program - Banking Rewards

I got invited into the RBC Banking Rewards Pilot program and thought I'd share. Normally, I don't care for these because they require a high balance in chequeing or (low interest) savings, but this one caught my eye as it also includes RBC Direct Investing which can be zero fees.

The tier rewards are at 50k, 100k and 250k

Tier 1 - $50,000+

- Chequeing account rebates - up to $16.95 a month

- Credit Card Rebate - $48 a year

- 0.25% interest boost - like 0.8% total (lol)

- 625 Avion Points/month - minimum $300 PAC to an investment account

Overall not bad, still worse than just keeping your money at WS, but if you value a B+M bank, you basically get free in person banking.

Tier 2 - $100,000+

- VIP Chequeing account rebates - up to $30 a month

- Credit Card Rebate - $120 a year

- 0.25% interest boost - like 0.8% total (lol)

- 625 Avion Points/month - minimum $300 PAC to an investment account

- Complimentary financial plan

Basically, it's the same thing as below just a small rebate difference, the only change is a complimentary financial plan, but who knows how good that is

Tier 3 - $250,000+

- VIP Chequeing account rebates - up to $30 a month

- Credit Card Rebate - $120 a year

- 0.5% interest boost - like 1.05% total (lol)

- 625 Avion Points/month - minimum $300 PAC to an investment account

- Dedicated Financial planner

Similar perks, but a dedicated financial planner assigned to you

Tier promotions are checked every month (average day balance of the accounts), Tier demotions happen once a year.

Seeing as you can have everything in XEQT (or other commission free ETFs) and pay RBC $0 in trading fees, this seems like a good offer from them to try to retain business. I did move a lot of money away from RBC recently, so that might be part of why I got this offer.

Car loan RBC mistake

So I called RBC last week to have my payments switched from weekly to semi monthly. The guy on the phone did not speak English very well, he was snotting and heavy breathing into the phone the entire time and honestly just wasn’t listening to me. I wanted to switch payments to the 3rd and 16th of every month and my understanding was that would start in September. Today I look and there’s a $263 charge that wasn’t supposed to come out. What’s my best course of action here?

They only pay $45k for the advice centre roles???

Just got an offer from RBC for the contact centre position at $45K, and honestly, the pay feels pretty low for the role/responsibilities.
For anyone currently at RBC or who has worked in fraud: how quickly can you realistically get promoted from this position? What does the career path look like (Senior Advisor, Investigator, etc.) and does the salary improve significantly?
Trying to figure out if it’s worth taking for the experience and future opportunities.
