RBC account and salary

Do I need to have a rbc account to get paid?

If so, do I need to have 100% of salary put into it?

I know in workday you say put % of salary into different chequing accts...I have a FI that gives me bonus for DD over 2k and I'd rather not lose that.

Sending an e-transfer via the RBC mobile app is now nearly impossible

Since earlier this morning I've been trying to send a $10K E-Transfer (to myself at another institution, just so I can prepay my own mortgage). My limit for E-transfers is $10K, and I've successfully made transfers of this amount numerous times. I have my primary email set up with autodeposit with RBC (for receiving from others) and a secondary email (different domain) with which I have autodeposit off, so that I can selectively "receive" funds transfers into other institutions that are not RBC.

This is how it went today:

  • Use the RBC mobile app on my iPhone: sign in using Face ID, then initiate the transfer. The app then sends an MFA push notification (on the same device, and I only have one phone) that requires me to Allow the transfer. It then also prompts me to enter my debit card PIN. This succeeds and puts my mobile app back at the sign-in screen. But because I have now bounced out of the E-transfer flow, I can't make the transfer.
  • I repeat the process and hit "try another method" for the verification. I choose the "enter client PIN on trusted device," and it then tells me that "something went wrong."
  • Remembering that since it's apparently now impossible to send an E-transfer (at least one of substantial value) from my phone, I go to my web browser. Of course, since RBC (like all the big banks) apparently can't support something like passkeys, I still need my phone nearby to allow the login via the MFA app.
  • Once logged in on the web app, I re-initiate the E-transfer flow. It then sends me an MFA prompt on my device to allow the transfer. I tap Allow, but nothing happens back at my web browser. I double-checked that I didn't miss an earlier notification, or had somehow pressed an older notification, etc. Nope.
  • I figure, ok, since I've already gone through the flow, let's try the trusted PIN option." I get a similar "something went wrong" error.
  • I go through the E-transfer flow once again, get a new push notification, press Allow, and then get the "enter your client card PIN" prompt, I enter it, and yes, finally, I have successfully made the E-transfer!
  • I then immediately notice something _extremely_ concerning: the confirmation tells me that this recipient's email is registered for autodeposit. It absolutely is not registered for autodeposit. I immediately go to my email to check, and as usual, it is offering me the choice of institution in which to deposit the transfer. So, RBC's interface here is just completely incorrect.

I'm an IT professional, and a portion of that career has been over 9 years of experience as a senior engineer in the domain of code testing and deployment, with most of that timespan being in Fintech. So, I understand the challenges of coordinating payments among many providers and long-established legacy systems. But:

It took me multiple attempts and two devices to just transfer money from one institution to another, and at the end I was shown a confirmation that made me concerned that either an account had been compromised or that I'd somehow accidentally signed up for autodeposit in another institution. But, it looks like this was simply a bug or untested code path that was deployed.

Some of these papercuts today don't happen every time I go through this flow, but the issue of being unable to approve a transaction from the same mobile device used to initiate it has been one for a while now (at least a month?).

I'm used to tolerating buggy software. I'm used to things like incidents due to code that poorly handles leap years. So, I rarely complain. But that this user experience is possible from the largest bank in Canada is completely depressing. It also leads me to think that the engineering culture at larger financial institutions is light years behind. (Something I already suspected, but.. this kind of situation would have been an all-hands-on-deck incident at previous companies I have worked in)

Folks in my region very commonly use banking E-transfers to send each other money for things like buying/selling items from Facebook Marketplace, splitting bills, etc. This is often done in-person on phones. With this current situation, I'm simply going to be moving my chequing balances out of RBC (as part of a complete transition away from RBC). I have been already trying to move more things out of RBC, but this situation really feels like the straw breaking the camel's back.

Why say you care about employee wellbeing , when actions are different?

Hello peeps, there are countless HR internal documents regarding values, respect, EAP contacts for wellbeing, etc. But then, when most of us were benefiting from remote work, it was rugged from us ?

I calculated, the revenue and net profit, per employee actually increased for the 5 fiscal years following Covid.

Quitting RBC, do they always make you leave on the spot?

I am planning to quit my job and give a two week notice, saying I am leaving for a competitor. What are the chances RBC will tell me to stop working right then and there, but still pay the two week notice?

Accepted my internship offer - Capital Markets QTS

Hey folks, I just finished Grade 12 and I’m starting uni this fall. Last year I joined RBC Academy and volunteered through it at my school. I went to a few events and then had a first-round interview where they shortlisted people based on a quick interview and resume.

After that, I got invited to a final round. I was expecting it to be super technical, but it was actually more focused on corporate finance, trading, and investment stuff.

I finally got an offer for Summer 2026 at RBC Capital Markets (QTS Team), accepted it and I’m pretty excited about.

If anyone here is in Capital Markets, what’s the work environment like? Also, how is it starting out as a beginner at a big place like RBC?

Scam call?

Hi there, just got a call (After hours mind you) from a number that was 855- 560-1411. They left a message stating my name and to call them back, but nothing more then that aside from calling them back with the number 855 272-1210. Why would you call from one number, then have me call back a different one? Seems sketch to me

Co applicant on a credit card

If you are a co applicant on a credit card with your spouse can you become the primary card holder when they die?

The way I read it both your credit history is connected for that card and so if you are in good standing you should be able to keep the card in your name?

Avion Rewards gift card sales?

How often does RBC put gift cards on sale for Avion Rewards point redemption? It seems like the “good” ones like Amazon, Apple, etc. are rarely on sale.

Will I pass background?

Previous history of Consumer proposal (paid and cleared- but the scar is there), recently passed IFC. I'm worried that my credit might be in my way of getting an entry level job. Score under 600.

Should I try a different career path, not banking?

How to report a TM?

For context, I have been with my current TM for over 7 months now, and I am genuinely getting fed up with him, it could be pettiness, just unnecessary hate, etc .. but there are reasons why.

To start with, he is incompetent, how can you be a Team Leader for SSG when you do not know the procedures yourself, ask us which us we looked at, and then look with us because you have no idea?
The informations given are genuinely useless as well, I remember him trying to explain the criterias fir the Apple products campaigns a few months back, he genuinely believed that a client is eligible ONLY when he completes all the criterias within that ONE month, and it cannot be done over multiple.

I have been having tech issues with apps, and then I get coaching sessions complaining that I transferred the call to another colleagues bc of that, and then he realizes he didn’t look into the actual call for what happened.

Let’s not talk about the team meetings, coachings etc .. genuinely useless, he has no professionalism, is very sexist, downplays women a lot, such as « women are usually average and do not excel in certain skills at work »

It is just unbearable, is it something that I can report to HR? I was planning to quit soon because his behaviour is just too unprofessional.

Is Credit Advisor a good career path?

Is Credit a better career path, I’d be starting my position there soon, or should I stick with Cards as I saw there are some openings for Cards Servicing Specialist?

For context, Credit Advisor is GG10 (I was given $51k to begin with, without the bonuses etc ..) and Cards Servicing Specialist is GG09

Got caught on a regional division nightmare

I applied for a Royal Credit line for students with my dad as the co signor, got approved for $35k but my home branch is in AB and I live in AB so my client card is 4519 01, but my dad lives and banks in Toronto and his client card is a 02. I can't see the loc from my OLB or mobile app but my dad can see it from his because they have opened it in the central server🤦‍♂️.

they said they are unable to move it to western because my dad is the co borrower and I wouldn't qualify for the loc on my own. I was like okay which is fine, then how do I access it??

They say either make my dad's chequing account a joint one with me and access it from there or get me an additional chequing account with a 02 client card in the central server. or have my dad access it and etransfer or use the send to an RBC client function to send me money 🤦‍♂️.

Employee Referral

I reached out to an RBC employee on LinkedIn and she was super helpful. She gave me her work email and told me to use it as a referral when I apply for an internship, but I'm not really sure what that means practically.

Do I just enter her email in a field somewhere during the online application on jobs.rbc.com? Or does she need to do something on her end first? Has anyone been through this process before?

Any help would be appreciated!

E-transfer In Progress

Hi there,

A friend of mine with RBC sent me an e-transfer payment last night for $400 for the first time, and I have auto deposit enabled. However, on their side the status says Deposit in Progress.

I understand RBC may have flagged it being I'm a new recipient, but how long before it is released? It probably doesn't help that it was sent late last night, but still...

Thanks for any help you can provide.
