RBC REPRESENTATIVE STOLE MY MONEY

I’m just going to start off by saying, I’ve been with RBC for almost 15 years without switching to any other bank. Today’s the day where I said this is enough. I had a charge on my account that I questioned and wanted to call RBC about because it was such a large transaction. Immediately when I call and answer all of the security questions, they transfer me and then I had to do it all over again to then find out that they transferred me to the wrong department. This happened 6 times until I actually got the right department. One of the agents I spoke to that asked me for my CVV and expiry date on my virtual visa as their “security questions” and without questioning it I gave it to them since I know this was the RBC phone number because I called the number on the back of my client card. After giving him my CVV and expiry he then told me I was still in the wrong department. About 20 minutes later while I’m on the phone still with an RBC representative, I see a charge on my account come through for $85.15 that I DEFINITELY didn’t make. I asked the RBC representative what the charge was for and apparently it was for “Osmows”. I haven’t ordered osmows in years because their shawarma is disgusting and it turned me off from ever ordering from them again. I explained that one of the RBC agents asked me for my CVV and expiry date for my virtual visa but I didn’t remember his name because I’ve spoken to so many agents already and all of them were East Indian names. Anyways, after explaining all of that to the agent, she put in a dispute for the charges as well as filing a complaint against the agent so they can preview my call logs and determine who stole my information. They said it’ll take 15 business days to come up with a conclusion even though I had next to no money left in my account. RBC said they can’t help me whatsoever when it comes to my funds in my bank account other than setting up an overdraft for the account which I obviously declined. So because of this I am now moving everything I have over to BMO. I had a bunch of my friends and colleagues let me know that BMO has a $700 promotion right now if I switch everything I have over to them right now, as well as they haven’t had any issues with this bank. (I obviously know all banks have issues, but this was my last straw with RBC). RBC also recommended me to visit my closest branch to see what they can do for me, but ultimately was the same thing as it was when I called in. I wasted an entire work day today because of this and RBC is also refusing to provide me any compensation for causing me such distress today because they can’t prove that it was one of their agents who stole my money until the 15 business days are up. And even then, because of their awful confidentiality policy, they cannot release the name of the agent who stole my money either, so I cannot bring his name to the police even when they find out it was said agent who stole my money. So I pulled the rest of my money out of my account and immediately opened an account with BMO. Will never be going back.

EDIT: I forgot to add, the last agent changed my virtual Visa card number after this happened. I received a notification on my RBC app saying someone was trying to attempt using my previous card for Amazon and it was $76. I immediately declined it so it never went through and they stopped trying to use it after that.

RBC times

Hi all, I made a post similar to this a while ago but it wasn't helpful, so I wanted to check again. I qualified for my Airpods 4 and placed them on order June 30. Ive seen comments abt ppl getting it within a week, but I was curious if anyone has or is in a similar experience.

I don't mean to rush it (its only been 6 days) but I was just curious about the normal timeline to get it. I haven't even received my shipping details and I know that it could take another week after shipping details.

Pls lmk!!

I was wondering if RBC will send a paper, physical mail (for safety/security reasons?…) to my address confirming I enrolled in Apple Pay or is it just the online email notification? Thank you!

EDIT: lol theres two different commentators with two different answers… which one is correct 😭🙏

please someone answer something

last two posts got ignored not too sure why. I'll keep this one short. Got an email saying to answer some pre-screening questions as I've been selected to interview (June 18), and it had an error since the link to book an interview was nonexistent. After series of emails June 26 the recruiter tells me wait they will schedule it for u. I already did mine with Scotiabank btw and finished my final round last Friday (first round for that was on June 25).

It's July 6 today and still nothing. I'm assuming cuz of Canada Day and American Independence Day stuff is going on? Or do internship interviews usually take this long to even schedule? Please anything would be appreciated but someone plz comment and say something. Thank u!!!

Call centre employees are incredibly stupid.

The chip on my credit card never worked when I got it, but that’s fine because I always tap. The tap stopped working too, so I called to get a new card sent out. Sounds pretty simple right?

The call centre employee surprisingly spoke very good English, but I still explained very clearly: “The tap and chip don’t work on my visa card anymore and I just need a new one sent to me”.

He then asked me if I tried changing my PIN.

I said no, why would I do that?

He said that sometimes transactions will fail because your PIN became invalid.

Like, I can’t even get to my fucking PIN. The tap and chip don’t work.

I had to say the exact same thing to him two or three more times for him to understand. I honestly don’t know what I could have said to make it more clear. A call that should have taken under a minute went on for far too long.

Like where do they find these idiots?

Junior level employee stuck in Junior Position

I have been working at Rbc for over 4 years and as far as I can see, unless my peers do secret tasks without my knowledge and there is a whole other line of business that they are working on that I am not privy to, I do the exact same work as them. When I say my peers, I mean those in the level above me. I work as a Junior Xx and they work as a Xx. Now, I have been working like this for an extended period of time maybe the last 2 years or so and I have been asking and pushing for a promotion because I felt like as a Junior employee seemingly working above their mandate and doing the same exact work as the Xx, I would have a strong case for promotion. Not to mention I have always got fully met in my end of year reviews, the last one I even got an exceeded for the line of business/business process that is weighted at 70% of my total mandate.

I kept being told that I was doing good work and I have been making improvements in a lot of areas.
Now I am being told that the Company need to find a business need to promote me from Junior Xx to Xx. Im not asking to be promoted to a Senior level employee above my peers, im not asking to be placed in an unknown role where there is uncertainty as to how I can handle the role. I am literally doing the exact same work everysingle day and the only difference is that the ones with the Xx title are a whole higher pay grade than me and don’t have a Junior title next to theirs. I just want to be acknowledged and recognized for the work I am currently doing. I could not believe that this is Rbc’s policy with regard to its employees.
I essentially have 0 way to move up unless a miracle happens???
How is this fairr????? I am the only person in the “company” where I work that is at this payscale. Why must I continue to do the exact same work for less pay, less vacation, less incentive and less recognition? For what??? What kind of policy is this? If an employee does the same work they should be moved onto the level at which they are doing the work of.

Was this email real or fake?

Hi everyone,

Yesterday, I received an email stating that I was selected to complete a few more steps as part of the client advisor role recruitment process. In the email, the recruiter asked me to forward a recent copy of my resume, and sign mobility forms. Those forms consisted of questions regarding any certifications I hold in finance (CSC, IFIC…) and my ability to commute to any branches in the GTA.

Is this a legit email that is apart of recruiting process that will to a potential interview, or is this a scam?

I look forward to hearing from everyone!

Work From Home/Hybrid Question

Hoping someone who has or currently does work remotely for RBC could answer this question for me.

I accepted a job offer for this position and one of the requirements was to have the modem in the same room as the PC, which is no big deal. That was all they said initially. It wasn't until they gave me the offer that they mentioned they want the modem directly connected to the PC, with nothing in between. Well that's instantly a problem that I've gotta solve, because my fiber modem has a POE box that sits between the modem and literally anything else, it's a required piece of equipment from the ISP. Also, I didn't think about it until afterwards, but I have someone else that lives with me and I can't exactly pull the ethernet from my router to connect to my PC when working, because his router gets its connection through mine, so if I'm working with the modem connected directly to my PC, no other device can get a connection and they won't be able to use any of their stuff...

Can anyone clarify or provide any solutions as to what might work in this situation, so that I'm not kicking everyone/everything off the internet for 8+ hours a day 5 days a week?

My first thought was could they even detect that there's a router there between the modem and my PC? If so, would an ethernet switch be an alternative solution, but then that is dependent on if my ISP supports multiple public IPs or not.

The only other option I can come up with would be to have the ISP run a second line run into the house, dedicated for my work only... but that would mean paying two monthly internet bills and I would obviously prefer to avoid that.

Any help or advise is appreciated!

Edit: Just a little more context for clarification;

- My internet is reeeally good, so there's no concerns in regard to internet issues or things of that nature. (2.5Gbps up and down fiber <3)

- They had mentioned many times throughout the process that people had been fired for not following the policy of having the modem physically in the same room as the computer. (They even had me take photos to email them and prove the modem was in fact in the same room as the computer.)

- They told me during the offer about the modem needing to be directly connected to the computer. I have a fiber modem that requires a POE, so it goes like this; modem > POE > router > everything else. But after seeing the photo they wanted it to go; modem > computer. I had to explain to them that the POE is a required piece of equipment and without it the modem doesn't function, that's just how it works.

- Yes, I fully agree it's weird and makes no sense lol. If the internet connection is stable and meets speed requirements (which mine easily does), then it doesn't make any difference if it's connected directly to the modem or connected to a router/WiFi/etc.

Trying to set up trusted device

Would like to set up trusted device but it keeps demanding I upload a picture of either a driver’s license or a valid passport both of which I do not have (I do have a photo card which should be an acceptable form of ID but to RBC I guess it isn’t) any way to bypass this? Do I need to call RBC or visit a branch?

Laid off at one year anniversary

I've seen a number of instances of people GG06 and greater, are laid off at their one year anniversary. The instances I'm aware of, the employee had no prior warning or were not on a performance plan. Can anyone explain the rationale? Is it a back door where the bank doesn't have to pay as much severance?

RBC daily debit E-tranfer limits ?

Wanted to know if this is the same everywhere or if it’s just me. Here’s my situation for context.

I went to pay rent at my landlord’s head office yesterday and forgot my good old cheques. The woman at the counter told me I could pay by debit instead. Well, the transaction was denied because my daily limit on my RBC debit card is $1,000.

I’ve had that account since I was about 15, and I’m now in my 30s. I called RBC thinking maybe the limit had been set when I was younger, but the guy told me no, it applies to all accounts. Apparently, there’s no way to spend more than $1,000 a day on your debit card, even if you have $5,000+ in the account, other than requesting a temporary limit increase. He made it sound like this is the standard and the same for everyone.

I then asked about e-Transfers, and he said my limit was also $1,000. I asked if that could be raised permanently as i sometimes have to transfer big amounts over several days and got the same answer: impossible. I found that weird because Wealthsimple lets me transfer up to $3,000, and my wife can e-Transfer $1,500 with BMO. Apparently, nothing can be done to raise those limits permanently.

In this day and age, with rent and everything else getting more expensive, I find a $1,000 daily limit very limiting, pun intended.

I’ve been considering changing banks for a while and this might be the final nail in the coffin.

For those of you with RBC, was the guy telling the truth? are you guys limits the same ?

TL;DR: Tried to pay rent with my RBC debit card, but the transaction was denied because of a $1,000 daily limit. RBC told me the debit and e-Transfer limits can’t be permanently increased even though different institutions have higher limits. Is this really the case for RBC clients or is it purely subjective to them?

Do I have any way to dispute this car insurance decision?

Someone hit my car while it was parked in a lot. Scratched the back and dented door. Filed a claim, the body shop agreed and filed a request, but RBC is claiming the dent was "preexisting" and not covered. The catch is that this is a brand new car and absolutely was not pre existing. The claim minus the dent is now conveniently less than my policy deductible. Do I have any way to dispute this?

Scotiabank Senior Inbound Fraud Advisor: I need advice

Hey everyone, I recently got an internal offer for a Senior Inbound Fraud Advisor role at a Big 5 bank, moving over from a frontline customer service position, and I’m looking for some honest reviews on what the day-to-day actually looks like. I have a background in finance and want to know if this role is strictly a back-to-back phone queue call center environment, or if seniors get genuine off-phone time to handle deeper case analysis. My ultimate goal is quick career progression into a functional, back-end fraud analyst or investigative role, so I’m wondering if a 6-to-8-month timeline for an internal transfer is realistic if I’m hitting all my metrics, or if the bank strictly enforces the standard 12-month policy. More importantly, since this inbound role usually falls under a TEER 4 classification, I need to plan ahead for my Express Entry PR journey. For anyone who has gone through the PR process in bank ops, how rigid is HR with the official job duties on the employment reference letter? Can a direct manager typically customize a supplementary reference letter on company letterhead to emphasize the analytical, regulatory, and investigative aspects of the daily work to align with a higher TEER category, or does everything have to strictly match a generic corporate template? Any insights on the department culture or handling the reference letter strategy would be incredibly appreciated!
