Charge overdraft for money I have in my account

I transferred money from my savings account to my chequing account and then used that money for a purchase.

Apparently if I make the transfer after banking hours, the bank apparently doesn’t process it until later, so their system treats my chequing account as if I didn’t have the funds available at the time of the transaction….and I got charged an overdraft fee.

Yes, it’s a small fee, but that’s not the point. I did have the money. It was in my savings account, and I transferred it to my chequing account. The bank is essentially charging me because their system processes the transfer on a different timeline than the transaction.

It’s the principle of it. Has anyone else noticed this? Because honestly, it feels like a complete scam. At this point, I feel like this should be grounds for a class-action lawsuit.

What is EY’s work model

Anyone know EY’s work model? I saw in Toronto that their associates have to be in-office full time. A buddy of mine got an interview for the Montreal office, but the interview is in person…seems weird since he said it’s a hybrid position in the positing. Just curious

Would you also feel regret?

I’m a lawyer working in a non-legal job in gov for the past 5 years making 87K, 35hr a week, great coworkers. Like the work but a bit bored. I got an offer for the private sector for 120K. Spoke with the lawyer who left. She said it’s toxic (catty, competitive, short deadlines, no mentorship). I turned it down but now have fomo that I missed a chance to grow in my career and have more disposable income. Did I just blow up my life?

Should I leave the gov for a private sector job?

I work in government where pay is low, but benefits are very high and I have incredible work life balance. I work with amazing coworkers, but I’m bored. Im a lawyer, but I’m not working under the title of “lawyer”. I do use my legal skills though in the drafting work I do.

I received an offer in the private sector at a reputable firm. I found out who the employee was that left, and they revealed to me it’s a super toxic culture (manager who is very aggressive, rude, unhelpful). Lots of workplace gossip and jealousy and favouritism. BUT that I’d learn a lot of if I can tough it out. This comes as a shock because the interviewers seemed nice and after a year of applying for an actual job where I’d be an associate, I thought I’d hit gold.

I’m questioning what to do now. Despite $23,000 more a year, I get practically no benefits at this company and have more working hours. I’d be going from 37.5 to 45 hrs a week, full pension to none. I would be doing something new though which is enticing and what I’d been hoping for.

What should I do?
