Please keep in mind this is in Canada. Only one province (QC) still has a servers wage and the tip credit has never been a thing here. Furthermore, we are well past rewarding service workers during COVID. So I find it bothersome that tipping culture is still a thing here.

I know people will mention they have to tip out other staff, but that’s part of receiving tips. So again, why are we still tipping them so much to begin with? I’ll reward them if I feel the service stood out, but I’m not there to compensate the job.

I’m sure I’ll get the usual remarks. So I’ll do my best to answer them if there’s thought behind it.

EDIT: and to clarify, this is about me being expected to tip.

I wouldn’t mind if they were quiet, but they are so loud. From opening the bags/packaging… to rummaging for the upteenth handful… to the super loud crunching… followed by the coughing/throat clearing after yet another binge. And it’s seemingly ALL day.

I was prompted to write this after bumping into a paramedic/EMT at the coffee shop this morning.

Thank you to those who provide potentially life saving assistance during high pressure scenarios. Back in November (2025), I was rushed to TMH during a DKA (diabetic episode), which necessitated immediate care. Looking back, I can’t overstate how impressed I was with the paramedics/EMTs and nurses during the event.

You play an invaluable role every day.

One of the team leaders at work will be visiting the office on Thursday. They said it’s to say “hi” to everyone, but nobody else (at my office) has mentioned it and their trip hadn’t been mentioned in chat/email.

However, they have reached out to me (in a friendly tone) to see if I will be in office. Are they planning on firing me?

This is a common response to removing tips. Supposedly, nobody would work evenings and weekends (and late hours) as a server for a regular wage. However, there are a number of jobs where people do so. Why is this scenario unrealistic for serving?

I am the beneficiary of a trust fund through my family. How should I be calculating how much of it will be taxed? I am considering setting up payments for it so I am not hit with a huge amount owing in the spring.

Technically, it was last night. As the title suggests, I (M) gave my number to her before leaving a singles mixer. She arrived late, but I was the first guy to talk to her. We connected to the point where others left us alone, and before you know it... it was time to go.

I'm not sure what I was thinking since we could have exchanged digits on the spot, but... I handed her a piece of paper with mine. I think I was saving it in case she was busy when I left. Anyways, I have yet to hear back from her. I'm pretty sure my lack of initiative ruined any interest she had.

She was nervous to begin with. So the chances of a response now feel like -100%. Normally I don't give AF about dating, but she seemed to check all the boxes. She is in my age range, doesn't have/want kids, and had many (unique) things in common. That's what makes me think i really blew my chance.

TL;DR: I handed my number to a girl - who I was already clicking with - instead of just asking for it.

I cannot overstate how annoying it is to be next someone who eats/snacks seemingly all day while you try to concentrate. Hearing them tear packages, talk with their mouth full, and have a coughing fit after. Plus the thought of food makes me hungry.

It's sooooo distracting while I try to get through calls.

I am considering selling my 2023 Toyota Corolla CL… ~38,000 km and one minor mark.

The dealership appraised it for $19-$20k (CAD) this morning, and are eager to buy it. Furthermore, I’m leaning towards staying with them when I lease my next vehicle (current one is financed). Right now, I am making bi monthly payments on a loan that has ~$3500 left (with a higher interest).

My brother has advised me to hold onto my car until the loan is paid off (so ~2.5 years). However I know it’s not the car for me long term and I can handle eating the loan.

I’m fine driving it and it is in good shape, but I’m interested in something a bit nicer. The car selection isn’t the best, but there are cars I’d be cool with leasing for 2-3 years.

What should I do?

The local dealer (Toyota) keeps letting me know about "upgrades" for my 2023 Corolla LE.

I financed it on a standard loan ($218 bi-weekly over 5 years), So I'll own it outright in a few years. However, I'm no longer satisfied with it. It has ~ 38, 000 kilometres on it (mostly city driving), but has some marks (mainly the driver door). Should I consider responding to the dealership and see what my options are? They are offering me $18-$20, 000 (CAD), while other sites (Autotrader) are quoting $14-$18, 000. Last time I checked, the outstanding amount was ~ $5,500 in December.
