Advice selling 2017 Honda CRV w/engine failure

So recently my Honda‘s engine with 70k miles on it had a catastrophic engine failure due to oil sludge (Was taken to Honda techs). This was with regular oil changes and yearly inspections. My family and I are trying to figure out what to do and it’s looking like our best option is to sell. For a used engine replacement it would be about 8k and for a new engine 14k. I don’t know if it would be worth it to buy an engine and sell it or just sell it for parts.
I’ve never sold a car before so any advice is appreciated :)

Facebook Marketplace or Trade-in?

Hey, all. I’m currently driving a 2013 Volvo XC60 that’s at about 133k miles. It’s my first car, and I’ve been driving it since 2020.

To be frank, it’s got me at my wits end. I’ve had to put almost $3k into maintenance within the past year and a half. I’m annoyed and over it, and I want to get rid of it. I’ve looked into selling it as a trade-in when I get a new car, but I haven’t been thrilled with the trade-in price. I totally understand that it’s older and has things that are going to decrease its value, so I wasn’t expecting a large sum of money anyways.

My brother suggested that I sell it on Facebook Marketplace as people are looking for cars to tinker around with and use for parts. The car itself is fine. It’s drivable and up to date on everything (now that I’ve been bled dry), so if someone wanted to drive it, they could. I feel like Marketplace might be the way to go if I want to get more money from selling it, but I’ve never done that before and it seems anxiety-inducing to do such.

Thoughts and opinions on what I should do? Should I say screw it and do the trade-in option or take the risk and go with Facebook Marketplace? Let me know your thoughts:)

Anybody know where to sell cars for cheap ?

my **2004 GMC Envoy SLT 4WD** with **129,309 miles** and a clean title.

The only issue is that after it’s shut off, it **sometimes won’t restart right away**.

If you let it sit for a while, it’ll usually start back up.

I haven’t diagnosed it any further.

The body is in decent shape for its age, and I’m asking **$500**

Good car but will
Not start right now

Selling mom’s “HEB car”

On Autotrader

Mom can’t drive anymore, so we’re selling her local errands and bridge game Honda... it's a documented, single-owner 2004 Honda Accord EX that has been professionally serviced without interruption since it was purchased new in Austin in 2004.

The whole story: 34 service history records, zero title issues, no odometer discrepancy, no airbag deployment, no open recalls. The car was serviced at Mercedes-Benz of Austin and First Texas Honda for the first 15 years meticulous, dealer-level care throughout.

At 122,991 miles over 22 years, this car has been driven gently. The engine, transmission, brakes, cooling system, and steering have all been serviced on schedule. Nothing has been deferred. Super smooth ride.

Cosmetically, and for its age, this car commands respect on the road. People say it looks like no one has ever ridden the car when they look inside.

Minor cosmetic bumper scuffs and tiny dents -the only blemishes on an otherwise exceptional record - have been professionally repaired. You will note one or two, but they are very small.

The keyless entry is currently non-functional. Everything else - engine, transmission, brakes, cooling, steering - is in excellent working order as documented. Given the comprehensive service history, a qualified mechanic will have full context for any further evaluation.

Carfax retail value: $8,450. Asking $8,100.

Sell an Undriveable Car?

HIIII so boom I have a 2011 mazda 3 front bumper is cooked, steering wheel airbag deployed, 144,000 miles. The bumper is cosmetic and everything else is working condition. Problem is, it needs a fuel pump and I’m not replacing it before selling it. What’s a fair price for this and should I sell the whole car, or parts, or what? This was my first car and it was given to me from family so I’m completely out of my depth. (Battery is fairly new and alive, alternator was replaced super recently, front tires are new like less than 2k miles on them because car broke down shortly after they were replaced, and the back ones only have abt 10k miles on them)

Should I sell my car?

I’ve had a past of very poor judgement when buying cars. Bought a Tesla back in 2021, put many many miles on it quickly, and the battery shit itself at 177k miles. It was $15k to fix it immediately and I thought it wasn’t worth it so I let the bank take it. I thought I was just unlucky, but apparently this is common with Teslas. I got another one (without knowing about the 200k mile thing) with much less mileage on it, and I don’t really drive far anymore. I still owe a good amount on it, and it’s at %15.67 APR for 7 years.

I never knew selling your car to get out of the loan was always an option. I can get rid of the car if I pay $7k. I was thinking of getting some POS off fb marketplace, but would I be in the shop often? And how much would gas be?

I could always trade-in next year, but that wouldn’t rid me of horrid rates of APR because my credit is absolutely horrible.

Sell the car and save up to pay off debt? Or use this shit loan to help my credit a little?

Any tips on how to find someone actually interested in buying a used car and not scamming?

I just recently listed my 2012 hyundai genesis on autotrader and FBmarketplace and I am already getting so many people telling me to go through their own websites for a vehicle history report. I am in quite a hurry as I have a car lined up that I want to purchase, however no one intersted seems legit. Does anyone have any tips on how to tell who's actually interested and who's actually scamming? I have already purchased a CARFAX report as I've read that this is all they need, am I being naive or am I right in thinking that this is more than enough for them? Also, if anyone has any recommendations for other car selling sites that won't lowball me I'm all ears. Any other advice welcome.

Need advice selling a car with $17k payoff but offers are only around $10k — what are my options?

Hi everyone, I’m looking for advice because I feel stuck with my car situation.
I have a 2021 Toyota Corolla that I still have a loan on through GM Financial. My current payoff is about $17,000. I’ve gotten offers from places like CarMax around $10,000, which would leave me with about a $7k difference that I don’t have available.
My car payment is about $460/month and insurance has become really expensive because of my driving history (tickets + 2 accidents). The car is honestly putting me behind financially and I’m trying to figure out the smartest way out.

Are there any other places I should try selling it?
Has anyone dealt with selling a car while upside down on the loan?
Is private sale worth trying for a Corolla?
Has anyone worked with GM Financial on surrendering a vehicle, and what was that process like?
I’m trying to avoid making the situation worse, but I need a realistic solution. Any advice is appreciated.

I will most likely cross post btw

How much should I get/ask for?

Hello, looking to sell/trade in my 2016 Black Honda Civic Coupe. It has Bluetooth/Apple CarPlay/heated seats. The electrical is funky though as the rear taillights aren’t working properly nor the backup camera & the trunk doesn’t open as it should unless manually opened. Around 130k miles, there is cosmetic damage on each side from scratches, damage from fender bender, & a couple hits but isn’t terrible, the reservoir for the windshield wiper fluid is cracked, but I have a new one I’ll install or give with it, there is a parasitic draw somewhere I believe?? As the battery keeps dying if it’s not driven daily/every other day. I’ll sell it with a new battery though.

Everything else works as intended though and the engine is in good condition, the oil has been regularly changed, the tires don’t need to be replaced for sometime, headlights work as well. Trying to get an idea of how much I should ask/get for trade in or selling privately.

Thank you!

I've had nothing but issues with a second hand car, can I give it back? if so how? - UK

Let me try and keep this short

purchased car from car dealer Nov 2025 - used a personal loan rather than car finance

contacted sellers garage about cruise control issue Dec 2025 - seller garage informed us looks like vehicle has been in collision, and blamed us. Wasn't us, we proved to the garage that it wasn't us and they ended up selling us the car with the damage. They hadn't told us it was in a collision nor did they say they knew. They fixed what they could from the collision.

Recall on car 3-4 months after, we contact same garage we bought it from about booking in for recall update. they tell us we need to contact jag garage, so we do. We book it in, get the system update, same day warning light comes on. Contact jag garage about warning, told us we need to do a £1000 diagnostics to see what issue is, they find issue, fix it for £1284, we get it back 2 1/2 weeks later.

10 days after getting car back from repair, another warning light comes on. Need to pay another £264 diagnosis fee, and then probably another repair fee on top.

we have emailed the garage we bought it off explained everything at the top and referenced our consumers rights act 2015 that the vehicle is not fit for purpose.

I'm very lost and deflated on what to do at this point, i don't want the car, the car recall is a risk of fire due to the battery so i dont trust it. I want to give it back and get my money back. We paid close to 15k and it has dropped down to 9k last time we checked which was 5-6months after purchase. cant sell it, cant afford anything.

i would like a guarantee way of giving the car back so it is no longer my issue, any advice?

Selling vehicle to EverCar

We are selling a six month old BMW i4 in Northern California. Extremely low miles and in essentially pristine new condition but of course painfully depreciated (we don’t like the car and wanted to move on). EverCar made an offer that is more than 10% higher than offers from CarMax and others. The way their process works is that you send them the signed over title by FedEx (they pay for that). When the vehicle is picked up they send you payment by ACH. That means you get the funds in 1-3 days.

Under ACH procedures it is possible for them to claw back their payment for a period of time. They are not inspecting the car at pickup or before. Only photos.
I’m concerned they could make some claim about the condition of the car, claw back their payment funds and leave me with a claim to be fought in arbitration.

I’m not worried that the car is less than perfect in our hands but who knows what happens after that? They are a legitimate company but I don’t like a deal structure that exposes me to risk that is greater than a hand off in exchange for a cashiers check or wire transfer.

The $$ involved are not trivial, more than $40k. I hate to lose several $k by walking away from them but am concerned. Anyone have experience selling to them? Thoughts on the risk?

Selling 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid 109,000 miles - $5,000 is the lowest I can go

Every dealer I go to tells me I can get between $5,000-$8,000 for my car but they are only offering $3k max

I live in Fresno

I am happy to bring her to anyone that is serious about purchasing.

The full listing with specs and photos is on eBay because Facebook marketplace has been “verifying my identity” for days.

If you are interested, send me a message.

Dealership Does Not Have Title?

Went to buy a car and took cash. Agreed to 11.2k for a 2015 Toyota Camry. The dealership doesn't have the title and wants me to put down $500 for them to "get the title". This seems weird to me.

I am in Vegas, which is the scam capital of the world. The dealership is a small corner lot. Is this normal?

I left without putting down the $500 they wanted to start the deal. I had the full amount in cash.

  • What do you think? Are they trying to scam me?

advice for my '08 impala

hi, new to the sub.

i have a 2008 chevy impala with approz. 77500 miles on it. last week i hit a deer and the repairs would basically be more than the car is worth (headlight, hood, paint, energy absorber, and a couple other things). since my car is so old, we don't have collision insurance so i won't be getting anything there. its basically "totaled"

im considering just getting a new car because i dont have really any other bills at this time (living at home post grad) and lets be real, how many more things am i going to have to fix. shes' a wonderful car, just always coming up with problems.

my question to reddit is how much could i get for it? should i sell online (FB?), to a dealer, chop shop? i know she's worth dirt especially with the front end damage, but even just a little cash would help with a new car payment. any ideas? tyia

How much can I get for my car?

Hello everyone!
I have a 2005 Toyota sienna it runs really well. However, my dad bought this van nearly 8 years ago and we have no clue how many actual miles it has. Check engine is on, tire pressure light is on, and light is on, and washer fluid is on. The vans ac doesn’t work yet I am going to fix it. Also the speedometer doesn’t work. I changed the gauge cluster thinking that was it and it’s not. The van has been to Louisiana and back at least 6 times and Kentucky about 3 times. Like I said it drives really well whenever another car has broke down that van is always there to save the day. Realistically how much could I get for it? Obviously I know I won’t get a crazy amount lol u was thinking maybe 1k-1.2k I feel it could be a good car for a mechanic or someone looking to use it for work. Let me know!

ha van has been to
