Why You Should Buy Not Fully Discounted Skills While Parent Farming. Sometimes. (An Analysis)

Now I know everyone and their mother has told you to wait to buy skills until the end of the career, but for parent runs this is actually statistically the incorrect decision when it comes to certain skills. This comes down to two very important factors that I will explain

  1. Winning your races is the most important thing in a parent run.

When you are doing a parent run, you want as high of an affinity as possible. This is common knowledge but sometimes it's natural to just run all the races without thinking about if there is a chance you could lose. You lose 6 affinity for each race you lose and while that doesn't seem like a big amount, it can add up quickly. Especially for early races, buying undiscounted Uma Stan on Digitan or other early race stabilizing skills can be the difference in winning your first two G1s. I highly recommend purchasing at least one or two mid race speed skills if possible to help even more so you aren't wasting runs early.

  1. Buying a skill removes it from the hint pool

I'm going to use Tachyon Wit SR as my example here. She has four hints plus stats. Whenever you get a hint from her, you get one hint level of any one of Tether, Up-Tempo, Medium Straightaways, Medium Corners, or +6 Wit +5 SP. If I'm farming for a Medium Parent, I want both of the medium specific skills. After training with her, I get a hint for Medium Corners. Now I could just forget about it and buy it at the end of the career but this is a trap. What you should do is buy it immediately because it boosts your future odds of finding Medium Straightaways. Buying a hint skill removes it from the pool of available hints. So instead of having a 1/5 chance at Medium Straightaways the next time Tachyon gives me a hint, I now have a 1/4 chance since I removed one of the options.

TLDR: Buying undiscounted or partially discounted skills is sometimes optimal in parent runs for improving odds of obtaining important skills.

PSA: Do Not Pull To Spark On Day 1 Of Tachyon/Hello Banner

I know everyone is very excited about Grand Live being right around the corner but pulling to a full spark on Day 1 of the banner is completely suboptimal even if you are planning on going to 400 pulls. This is because your first 200 pulls can determine what you will do afterwards.

Let's say I pulled 0 Copies of Tachyon and 2 Light Hello copies in my first 200 pulls. That would be kind of unlucky but will definitely happen to some people. Instead of pulling 200 more times and trying to get at minimum 3 copies of Tachyon, the ideal way to play would be to stop, spark Hello, borrow Tachyon, ticket Maru Speed and use a crystal (assuming you didn't pull on Maru). The same problem of wanting to stop can happen with great RNG. If you pull all the copies you need in the first 200 pulls, the last 50 free pulls are essentially worthless.

The problem comes with the fact that you are now wasting 50 free pulls that aren't working to fill a spark. That's 7,500 carats down the drain because you wanted a card 5 days early (the scenario is 4 months long). Since we have Ramonu Wit in the future and will need marginally more carats once the game starts to pivot to style specific cards, saving up any carats that you don't have to needlessly spend is incredibly important.

Planning on parent farming for 5 more days in Unity is what I suggest. Or you can just get really lucky.

Thanks for listening to my Ted Talk.

TLDR: Pulling a full spark on Day 1 means bad RNG can make you waste up to 7,500 carats

Can you main Pace/Late consistently for the rest of the game?

All of my favorites fall into those two categories (I'll make Transcend's Onsen Outfit work as pace) I need to know whether it's possible or not. Must run Umas are Transcend, Loves Only You, Still in Love, Eishin Flash, Buena Vista, Taiki Shuttle, and Doto.

Not Pulling The Meta Supports For Trackblazer Is The Worst Part Of The Scenario.

I've been a day 1 player and love this game but I feel like the worst part about Trackblazer isn't the scenario itself but instead that the support cards that are dominant like Fuku and Top Road almost punish you for pulling them. These cards fall off after Trackblazer because of how different Trackblazer is from other scenarios so the value for FTP and low spenders is very low. Because I wanted to be smart long term, I didn't pull either of these banners and am now sitting on 90k carats but it's made this scenario feel like trash. I was racking up CM 1st place finishes but since Trackblazer started I've finished A 1st, A 2nd, and A 3rd. Also, not having any banner to pull on is slowly driving me insane.

TLDR: Narita Top Road and Fuku being such long term carat liabilities makes Trackblazer terrible for low spenders
