Confused on why these tanks are eating rocks
Hello everyone, wanted to ask for some help finding out why these tank divisions are getting absolutely stonewalled by the Germans. I did a medium tank/Medium SPG and 40 with inf Soviet build, thinking that if I focused hard enough on tanks I'd be able to blast the Germans even under red air. Unfortunately, these tanks have been doing AWFUL. I've been staring at my frontlines watching 17 tanks being unable to kill 10 out of supply German divisions.
They seem fine to me on paper. Good soft attack, breakthrough, etc. but in the field they barely do anything against the Germans.
I have some theories as to why they're so ass, but would like some feedback so I can understand exactly *why* they're so bad.
Combat width too high. Could be not enough tanks get in and the huge width creates constant supply issues.
Red air. I basically abandoned building air besides 30ish mills on fighters, and have been constantly fighting under red air. I thought putting support AA in everything would help, but the CAS damage has been brutal.
Doctrines. Currently running full Large unit tactics, Field Engineering, Armored Spearhead, and Deep Battle. Mayhaps I larped too hard.
