Finally able to render again after I upgraded my RAM!
I'm getting BEYOND sick of people demonisng Alya while not just defending, but outright JUSTIFYING Marinette's decision to lie.
In this post, I'm just going to focus on all the Alya slander arguments I know, and debunk each one of them. I can do one for the people outright justifying Marinette's actions as a whole in another post.
1.) "Alya should've been more understanding, and given Marinette a solution instead of judging her!"
Since when is the wronged party obligated to show understanding and compassion to the person who wronged them? After lying to, manipulating, and gaslighting her, Alya does now owe Marinette her compassion, or emotional labour. Not to mention, she can't fully understand... because Marinette won't tell her ANYTHING!
2.) "She shouldn't have threatened the friendship. That's toxic!"
Setting boundaries is toxic, but lying right to your best friend's face, trying to gaslight them, and using them as a pawn in your cover up isn't? Spare me! Alya has a right to lay down what she will and won't tolerate from Marinette.
3.) "Marinette should have taken back Alya's Miraculous!"
So you want Marinette to be a tyrant who abuses her authority and silences those who dare to question her? Got it! You want her to become exactly like Gabriel... but then you'll lose your shit when someone actually compares her to Gabriel- make it make sense here!
4.) "Alya was right to be mad, but she way way too harsh, and put too much pressure and stress on Marinette."
It's not the job of the person being manipulated to carefully regulate their tone so the manipulator doesn't feel uncomfortable while facing the truth.
5.) "It's none of Alya's business! She shouldn't have gone pyring into Marinette's private life without her consent!"
Oh hell YES, is it her business! Not just as a victim of Monarch herself, but as someone who was MANIPULATED by Marinette into becoming a co-conspirator in the cover-up against her knowledge consent. The minute Marinette pressured Alya to use her powers to manufacture a fake illusion and lie to Adrien's face, it FIRMLY became Alya's business- you don't get to invoke "privacy" to hide a crime you dragged someone else into. To add to that, the identity of a TERRORIST is not Marinette's "pirvate business," and it's not something she has a right to keep to herself.
6.) "Alya believed Lila, remember?!"
Falling for a pathological liar's deceptive act in the past does not strip you of the right to be furious when your actual best friend uses your trust to turn you into an active liar.
7.) "Alya's told lies before too!"
Telling your long-term boyfriend a secret because you trust him is nowhere near the same solar system as forcing your best friend to build a magical illusion that gaslights a grieving boy about his abusive dad. Also, Alya actually took accountability when her actions came back to bite her. She apologised to Marinette, and relinquished her Miraculous, acknowledging that her keeping it was too risky. Marinette on the other hand, when exposed with the truth, decided to double down, try and gaslight Alya into thinking her suspicions were unreasonable, and when that didn't work, she pivoted the subject away from the lie, and onto herself, going on an emotional triade about HERSELF, and HER struggles in an attempt to elicit sympathy for Alya, and THEN, initiated a mission to avoid anwering Alya's question altogether. Very different reactions- one recognised her mistake, the other woouldn't even ADMIT to it.
8.) "Kagami/Alix is a better friend!"
Why, may I ask? Alix gave a vauge fortune cookie prophecy because she already knows the future and can't spoil anything, and Kagami is complicit in the secret. Voting them "better friends" just means you prefer people who don't make Marinette face her mistakes.
That's all I've got for now. Fell free to share more in the comments and debunk them yourselves!
There’s a common argument from some people who defend Marinette about how the aftermath of the reveal could play out (depending on how Adrien finds out, that is): “Adrien will be mad at first, but once he understands the pressure Marinette was under as Guardian, and that she did it because she loves him, he’ll forgive her.”
While I do think they’ll eventually reconcile because they’re endgame, I REALLY dislike how this frames the conflict. It shifts the emotional burden onto Adrien to empathise with Marinette, when it should be the exact OPPOSITE.
Adrien’s entire life has been defined by people taking away his agency "for his own good." His father isolated, controlled, and abused him under the guise of protection, expecting Adrien to accept whatever reality was handed to him. Forcing Adrien to once again suppress his hurt, overlook manipulation, and prioritise his girlfriend's stress and emotions over his own, and his right to the truth is just a continuation that exact same toxic dynamic.
Marinette’s Guardian duties are undeniably heavy, but her pressure doesn't erase what she did. She stripped Adrien of the truth about his father, denied him a key part of his identity (that he's a sentimonster), gaslit him into believing Gabriel loved him, and curated his reality based on what SHE thought he could handle. Explaining WHY she lied out of fear doesn't mean Adrien is obligated to excuse it, nor should he have to comfort the person who lied to him while processing that his father was a terrorist.
For their reconciliation to actually mean anything, the onus needs to be on Marinette to understand Adrien's pain, sit with the consequences of her choices, and put in the work to regain HIS trust. Real character development shouldn't be Adrien rushing to "understand" her pressure- he's been way too forgiving to Marinette/Laybug over the course of the show already- it should be Marinette finally realising the full weight of what she took from him, and respecting the time and space he might need to heal.
I get the joke: cat's don't like water. But doesn't make much sense for Chat Noir to be so afriad of it. For one, he's never had an issue with the rain before, and 2, he has his own umbrella in his staff- why is he flocking over to Ladybug's like a scared little kid lol?
Not a nitpick. I find the scene funny. Just something I noticed.
Quite weird how in their incessant defense of Marinette, they barely ever mention ADRIEN- you know, the actual victim in this? And when they do, it's almost always only to further justify Marinette's actions. Acknowledging him means actually having to come face to face with the immense harm Marinette has been causing him, so it's easier to just ignore him as much as possible.
And the way they act with Alya for daring to call Marinette out on her bullshit? They really just want Alya to coddle Marinette and never question her- basically be the Sabrina to Marinette's Chloe.
It's such a dumb theory for these reasons:
Those are really the core 2 reasons I have for hating the Sentinette theory. Plus, it just seems too convoluted and contrived. The illusion theory makes much more sense, has has way more evidence to back it up.
I get why people want to see Adrien go through a villain arc. After five seasons of his feelings being pushed aside for Marinette/Ladybug's convenience, and his loyalty being exploited by the writers to avoid holding her accountable for extended periods of time, people want to see him get mad for a sustained period.
But he can do that without becoming a villain.
Part of the reason Marinette lied was her fear of Adrien getting akumatised. When Adrien eventually finds out the truth, if he gets akumatised, then Marinette's fears will be retroactively "validated" in a sense. The narrative would imply he COULDN'T handle the truth, and that he needed to be coddled and shielded. While Marinette would still be in the wrong for lying, her reasons would suddenly become "understandable" to the audience.
However, if Adrien were to actively reject an akumatisation, it completely proves Marinette wrong. It proves he IS strong enough to handle reality and doesn't need to be protected from it. It forces Marinette into a massive crisis of conscience- she would have to realise she’s been babying someone who was stronger than she ever gave him credit for. She essentially chose to believe his abusive father's misguided view of him over the boy standing right in front of her- the boy she's supposed to be madly in love with. Her deception would be exposed not as heroic protection, but as an act of projection and a lack of trust.
It would be so much better for Adrien's arc if he resists the temptation of evil (especially since he was mentoring the Miraculers on exactly this in Revelator). It would show us that he is a strong-willed person in his own right, and the only thing ever bogging him down was his father possessing an object that physically stripped him of his free will. He can be deeply resentful and justified in his anger toward Ladybug without the writers turning him into an antagonist.
We're told from day one that the Ladybug and Black Cat Miraculous represent Yin and Yang- two ultimate, equal, and interdependent forces. In Taoist philosophy, Yin and Yang are two halves of a single whole, useless without each other. Yet, the show's actual writing never treats them this way; everything is heavily, structurally favored toward Ladybug.
By giving Ladybug ALL of the utility powers- the Lucky Charm (the plan), the magical repair system, and Akuma purification- the writers made Chat Noir narratively redundant. If Chat Noir ever defeats a villain by himself, the city remains ruined and the Akuma escapes, because he can't purify akumas or repair the damage caused by them. The resolution of every single episode is locked behind Ladybug's specific abilities, so the plot mechanics force Chat Noir to act more like a human shield or a highly destructive assistant rather than a true co-equal. A better dynamic would have been making Chat Noir the only one capable of destroying the akumatised object, while Ladybug purifies the akumas and repairs the damage, or that Chat Noir purifies the akumas, while Ladybug fixes the damage.
In terms of marketing, Ladybug gets to narrate the intro, the theme song and nearly any sort of poster is filled with ladybug imagery and barely any of the black cat. Imagine the Yin and Yang symbol only show the Yin side while excluding the Yang.
If the writers really wanted Ladybug to be the sole, ultimate protagonist, they shouldn't have introduced the Yin and Yang concept at all. They could have simply made her Miraculous the single most powerful artifact in existence, and have the Cat Miraculous be a lesser one like the other Miraculouses. Instead, they made a promise of balance they never intended to keep. We ended up with a frustrating compromise: a show that uses Adrien’s tragic family lore to prop up the narrative stakes, but sidelines him as an unneeded bystander when it actually matters.
It's a bit out of sync as it's screen recorded, but not too bad.
Chat Noir: My favourite one. Very true to his old one, but not afraid to add a bit more flair and aura. Soundtrack is top tier! His new pose is also much better than his old one, and I like how he kicks instead of just slashing like he used to. Additionally, I love the bell flick!
Carapace: The soundtrack is a vibe. I love how they made him do more moves.
Miss Hound: The football moves sold me.
Pegasus: Very similar to his OG one, not much to write home about, but I love the dance moves.
King Monkey: Idk what it is I like about it. It just hits.
Caprikid: I'm just in love with his new costume, and his face when he conjures his mask is cool. I wish his sequence was longer though.
Polymouse: It's alright. Better than her old one, but not much to write home about it.
Minotaurox: Not terrible, nothing special though. A bit short. Though his new suit is 10X better than his old one.
Ryuko: I LOVE her new suit, but her transformation sequence is a bit stuff and slow for my liking.
Ladybug: Pales in comparison to her old one. Feels a bit stuff an unfinished. I don't hate it, but it could be better.
Hopefully next season we get to see the transformations of Rena Rouge, Vesperia, Viperion, Argos, Pigella, Purple Tigress, and Rooster Bold (maybe even Bunnyx).
I can't export anything atm, so I can only show you in After Effects for the time being. It's a bit out of sync, as that's what screen recording does lol.
Let me know what you think.
Yeah, they were cute and all, but I don't understand the absolute glazing they get from the fandom, and the disappointment over their downfall in favour of Adrinette, which has turned into flatout hated for Adrinette.
Marichat was fun, but it was fundamentally unsustainable. You can't date someone with a secret identity, as you'll never really get to truly know them. To add onto that, Chat Noir said himself he would feel comfortable pursuing that sort of relationship because he'd feel he was taking advantage of a civilian who had feelings for him. Anyone who thought they could be something serious was fooling themselves.
One thing I also dislike is how people prop Marichat up on a pedestal because they're the "true selves" of each other. Have we not learned ANYTHING? Chat Noir is NOT Adrien's "true self"- not solely. The "real" Adrien is a mixture between him and Chat Noir. This is the same with Marinette. Ladybug is just as much a part of her as Marinette Dupain-Cheng is. I wish people would understand that.
Overall, neither Marichat nor Ladynoir can happen permanently until we get a reveal.
Some people say it's fake, while others insist it's real. I just wanna get to the bottom of it. If it is real, what a wasted opportunity! If it's not- great concept regardless.
I've heard one too many people describe them as being royal. Probably because, in Felix and Kagami's play, the family is portrayed as the rulers of a small kingdom. That was purely symbolic, and it's not meant to be taken literally.
The Graham de Vanilys are actually part of the British ARISTOCRACY. Think the Granthams of Downton Abbey, or the Bridgerton family.
Lord Graham is a Duke- which is the highest hereditary rank in the British Peerage, just one step below a Prince or King. This means the family likely has a massive estate somewhere in England, and historically a seat in the House of Lords (and Dukes/Duchesses aren't called "Lord/Lady"- they're usually referred to as "His/Her Grace" or just "the Duke and Duchess"). There are fewer than 30 non-royal Dukes left in the UK today, so the family holding this title is a massive deal... but it doesn't make them royalty.
Granted, many aristocratic families are RELATED to royalty, but they themselves are not sovereigns.
Just thought I'd clear that up.
I can't export anything at the moment, so I'm stuck show it like this in After Effects. It's not finished yet, but the bare bones of it are.
I know the fandom is deeply divided on how things have shifted recently, but I need to get this off my chest: I actually prefer Ladybug and Chat Noir's dynamic in Season 6 (and a bit of S5) compared to everything we got in the first five seasons.
Hear me out. For the longest time, their partnership felt trapped in a continuous, exhausting cycle: Chat Noir thirsts over Ladybug, Ladybug rejects his advances, and Chat Noir gets pouty/sad over the rejection. Rinse and repeat for 10 years and 5 seasons. While the early seasons no doubt had their charm, and I love the hilarious callbacks, the romantic angst often felt like a roadblock to their actual growth. It made both characters unlikeable at times, and it just became boring to watch.
Now in Season 6, with Chat Noir's romantic feelings for Ladybug having finally subsided, their dynamic feels incredibly refreshed. Because he's no longer actively pursuing her, he’s stopped putting her on a pedestal. He's finally able to respect her as a whole person rather than an idealised crush. It’s not that he didn’t respect her before, but their mutual respect feels so much more natural and grounded now.
What I love most is that they haven't lost their spark. They still have that signature back-and-forth banter and flirty dynamic they've always had, but it’s no longer overdone (especially on Chat Noir's end). Because the heavy, unrequited pressure is gone, the flirting feels way more natural and like a genuine, comfortable showing of affection between two people who deeply care about each other.
Honestly? I think they have MORE chemistry now than they ever did back then. They are a dynamically healthy, mature, and hyper-synchronised team operating on equal footing.
That being said, the dynamic isn't perfect, but the flaws are actually interesting now. I think Ladybug's reasons for not telling Chat Noir about Monarch are pretty silly, and it shows that she's still got a long way to go with fully trusting him with secrets, but even with that, watching them operate without the underlying tension of "when will she love me back?" has made their actual partnership so much more satisfying to watch.
Am I alone here? Does anyone else feel like their teamwork and partnership chemistry has peaked this season, or do you miss their old "will they, won't they?" dynamic?
Again rough estimates, but still more accurate than the film (although I'd say Hermione's film height is pretty accurate).
Obviously, I'm not blaming the actors for not growing to their characters' specific heights- that's not something they can control. It's just cool to see how they would appear next to each other in the books.
These are just estimates, but I still find it jarring how Fred and George are supposed to be so much shorter than Ron lol. Their heights in the films are reversed!
It’s been teased for years, and I heard it was originally supposed to take place around Season 4 when Luka first departed Paris for Brazil, but I have a feeling things have changed since then. Given the little teaser we got in Mr. Agreste, it wouldn't make much sense to go back that far, and they could very well have shifted the timeline to happen sometime during or after Season 6.
With that in mind, I have a few theories and questions on how this might play out:
With the way Mr. Agreste ended, with Irupe becoming suspicious of Luka and believing he might hold a Miraculous, this has to lead to something. It also implies that Luka/Viperion probably hasn't been active since he left Paris. Some major local threat is likely going to surface, forcing him to jump back into action.
What do you all think? Are we ever going to get this special, and how do you think they’ll handle Luka's storyline in Brazil?
