I spent almost a year building this open-world RPG prototype and I’m unsure if I should continue it
Hey, I’ve been working on an indie open-world RPG called The Forsaken Tales: Evalyn for about a year.
Right now this is a playable prototype, not a finished game.
It includes a lot of systems already in place, but everything is still experimental and subject to change. I’m mainly trying to figure out if the core idea is actually fun or worth continuing, because the scope is quite large and I don’t want to commit years into something that doesn’t resonate with players.
The game includes systems like:
Stat-based leveling and character progression
Turn-based combat system (still open to redesign in the future)
Open-world exploration across a large map
NPC interaction systems where behavior changes based on player actions and reputation
Speech-based interaction system (compliment / antagonize / joke) that affects NPC reactions, prices, and relationships
Wanted system where crimes and actions affect how the world responds to you
Alternative outcomes in certain encounters instead of just standard death states
The player starts as Walkin, a character whose village is attacked by orcs, forcing them to survive and explore the world while searching for their brother. The main story exists, but the player is free to ignore it and just explore.
This is still very much a prototype. Some systems are rough, some content is incomplete, and a lot of things may change or be redesigned.
I’m releasing it mainly to get honest feedback on whether the direction is worth continuing.
If anyone wants to try it and give feedback, it would genuinely help a lot.
