Has anyone done a good deep dive on the 2024 Model Wars, specifically 538’s Model’s one month shutdown?

Greetings All!,

So I was reading Nate’s latest message box and I had completely forgotten about the 2024 Model Wars, specifically that Morris’s 538 Model was broken and needed to be taken down for a month to fix.

I was trying to explain what happened to my dad when I realized I had forgotten too much. Had anyone done a deep dive on this issue other than Nate’s post and the Semafor article?

If so could you direct me to it?

Thanks!

Can we all agree that it’s really awesome that the Wiz are in the East

Wemby is fucking real and only 22. The Thunder are not going anywhere. Jokić and Luka exist.

Three cheers for being in the cup cake conference!

Greetings All!,

So I bought CK3 earlier this year. I've got over 1000 hours in CK2 but I purposefully waited to buy CK3 for reasons all Paradox fans know well.

I love the game. Currently I think its better in almost all respects than CK2 AND with the two new DLCs I think it is going to get significantly better. Honestly if I had known what the two DLC were going to be at the beginning of the year I probably would have waited till November before buying the game as Merchant Republics is a feature I am very excited for.

With that said I think there are a few things that are necessary to make the game complete and several more that I think would significantly add to the game, even if they are not essential.

Necessary additions for the game to feel complete

  1. Religion rework - We're getting this in By God Alone, hopefully later it gets expanded to non-christian faiths (I'm reasonably confident this will happen
  2. Economy/Trade addition and rework - We're getting this in Silk and SIlver
  3. Council/Laws/Feudalism rework - I'm thinking something like a greatly expanded Conclave CK2 DLC. A fair number of mods already do this and they do it well. It should really be in the game and not require a mod. I'm almost 100% positive we're going to get something like this, probably in 2027.
  4. Full AI rework - Look, the AI can't plan long term in the game. This is CK3's biggest flaw. The AI should be able to determine its long term goals and then execute a sequence of steps to realize its goals (obviously roleplaying the entire time, like the goals the AI chooses and the steps it is willing to take to reach those goals should be determined by the AI personality). While I'm reasonably confident the AI technology exists to do this, I am very aware that this may not be possible without completely destroying performance, so I'm hopeful we will get some AI improvements I'm not holding my breadth for a full rework because performance might constrain it.

Good additions but not necessary

  1. Naval systems including naval combat - should be tied to trade and the economy, but I am aware standing navies were incredibly rare during this period and navies were, in general, not nearly as important as in the Early Modern (EU4/5) era
  2. Balance improvements - A huge problem is that player stats can get out of control. However, we all like seeing numbers go up! I would make stats have diminishing returns. The problem right now is that going from 0 to 1 stewardship gets the player +2% increase in taxes and going from 50 to 51 stewardship gets the player +2% increase in taxes. I would change that for all stats so that going from 50 to 51 stewardship gets the player like +.5% taxes. Also I would significantly decrease general opinion bonuses and significantly increase negative opinion maluses, especially for different culture and religion. This could easily be tied to difficulty as well
  3. More Flavor Packs/Event Packs - I love flavor packs. I love RICE and VIET! give me stuff like those amazing mods! I even (gasp) love event packs. More events, and activities would be always welcome.
  4. Societies - I'm not sure that the CK2 societies were historically accurate in anyway shape and/or form, but I loved them and would like something similar in CK3
  5. Ambitions - I have no idea why these are not in the game already. Getting to choose small goals for your character that give small bonuses for completion is a great system AND it would help the AI determine it's goals.
  6. Bloodlines - the legends system is meh in my opinion. It feels like an absolute nightmare to spread legends outside the player's own realm and the bonuses for completing a higher tier legend are only OK. Furthermore the legends are incredibly repetitive and generic, both getting the legend seed and spreading the legend. I'm 100% OK with bloodlines giving only small bonuses to things like prestige, piety and/or for bloodlines to be limited per character (like a given character can only ever have 1, 2 or 3 bloodlines). However, the gameplay loop that you perform a very specific and often difficult and time consuming set of actions and then your character and his or her descendants get a small bonus is awesome

Thanks for reading! Any thoughts?
