We got Topper Tuesday at Home

We got Topper Tuesday at Home

Last week I was stuck in a rut trying to choose a polish when "Topper Tuesday" came to mind. Since it was in fact a Thursday, I decided to think up themes for each day of the week. Here is what I came up with:

  • Magnetic Monday
  • Topper Tuesday
  • One-Coat Wednesday (or maybe just cremes)
  • Thermal Thursday
  • Flakie Friday (or Franken Friday??)
  • Sparkle Saturday
  • Shimmer Sunday

The idea is that whatever day of the week it is that I apply polish I will use that theme. I happen to have some thermals and magnetics that I'm not in the habit of using much, so I'm hoping this will help me work them into the rotation.

And today I changed my nails again so here is my first Topper Tuesday mani.

Any other ideas of themes you would use...?

Mod Poll: No Snobbery

Friends, it's been a month or so since we established our No Snobbery rule, and while we are mostly pleased (we hope you are, too!), we get the sense that some of our membership are pining for an outlet to rant or rave away on their most loved and hated adaptations.

We would by no means wish to suspend any pleasure of yours, so we would like to present some options we are considering and also invite you to make any suggestions you might have in the comments.

Sincerely,

The Mods

Edit: for the megathread and flair options, the idea would be that the posts would be intended for likeminded folks to revel in their extreme opinions without turning it into a food fight (as u/filbertres so neatly phrased it).

Just a few quick updates from the mods:

We have added a few more post flair options:

  • Travel / Events - Jane Austen related itinerary questions, travel logs, festivals, and events.
  • Pump Room - posts that, while Jane Austen related, are more social in nature. This includes chatty / personal discussion posts, audiobook / podcast recommendations, pictures of your dog named Bingley, etc.

We also have added a clarification to Rule 1: Be civil and kind. (Changes are italicized below.)

>Please contribute to making this a happy and safe space by keeping discussions civil. This means avoiding ad hominem comments, rudeness, incivility, trolling, stirring the pot, etc. Debate the point and not the person. Please report suspected content stealing / inappropriate AI use to the mods rather than making accusations in the comments.

As always, please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have questions or feedback.

We mods sometimes find ourselves wading in the archives (almost like rummaging in the attic) and I thought it might be fun to share some of my recent finds for your browsing pleasure.

Is Sense & Sensibility Austen's Most Realistic Novel?

I posted last year about showing my kids the 1995 P&P miniseries and a few weeks ago we sat down to start it again (Me: "You want you watch it again?" Them: "but we've only seen it the one time!"). Meanwhile, it comes out my partner doesn't remember it very well (pretty standard actually). Well, okay then :)

In the last episode, just after Darcy insists on handling Lydia's discovery/marriage, the youngest (now 9) shouted out, with relish, "It's DARCY time!"

When the credits finally rolled, the middle child (now 11): "This just gets better and better!"

They have no idea 😂

We are planning to start a read through of Mansfield Park. For those interested, please vote on our start date.

We will discuss one chapter weekly (48 total). Edit: I really like u/AlarmingSize's suggestion to read it over 2 months (about 6 chapters a week) rather than take the best part of a year to read it. If anyone has a different suggestion, please share it in the comments!

Notes:

- You may propose a different start date or pace in the comments.

- We also have a Persuasion read-through in progress hosted by u/Miss_Ashford—they are currently reading chapter 11.

- Edit: I, u/TheGreatestSandwich, will be leading this read through, but would like to point out that you do not need to be a mod to host a read-through--simply message the mods and let us know your interest. :)
