Dad is driving me crazy about Meningitis B vaccines
I live in the UK and am going to University this year, living at home and commuting in but right now i do intend on being there for a fairly long time each day and completing my work at uni rather than trying to come home all the time. I just got my first dose of the vaccine today because they're recommending that University students get the vaccine
My dad has been getting annoyed insisting i do not need the Men B vaccine whenever I bring it up because it spreads through kissing / during the nightlife and I am not really going to do that (I do agree with this part I'm not doing all that)
On a lot of news reports they list coughing and sneezing as ways the disease can spread, as well as living in the same home which obviously I'm not in halls but I will be around the people in my course and going to the student hub, hopefully making and hanging out with some friends so i'll be in closer contact with some people.
So as well as being in this age group where it more commonly spreads I also have coeliac disease, which is considered an autoimmune disorder. I honestly don't truly understand each part as my main conversations with doctors is about my diet, all i do know is i get notifications on my nhs app to get free covid and flu vaccines every year which means I'm definitely considered at risk, and I also know how bad meningitis can be just for a healthy person.
I have no doubts about getting the vaccines even if i might not catch it but, Is my dad being really weird about this or is it true that i likely won't catch it?
edit: I did say in this post that I already got the vaccine (made some parts bold for more clarity i guess) and he also does know, he just seems to be insistent that i do not need it to an odd extent when it's just some simple jabs. I'm not 100% sure if it's about dating because as i also said in this post i agree that that's something i won't do, for more clarity I identify as aroace he doesn't know that i think, i always say i'm not interested in anyone at all if some kind of 'dating conversation' comes up and cannot be bothered to explain beyond that but i assume he got no nightlife + no kissing from what I often tell him. I also hate parties and loud music, I'm like super boring.
So with that being said to me it feels like a medical thing which is the even weirder part cause obviously the only downside is a sore arm and mild illness as oppose to possible death if I did happen to catch it. Some of the comments are not so helpful but also if i already got the vaccine and laid out information there aren't many answers to give, I'm honestly just venting because he's really annoying me with his stupid take on this.
