Has anyone else noticed VPN speeds can change a lot from one day to the next?
I've been using Proton and Nord over the past few months and one thing I've noticed is how inconsistent the speeds can be.
Some days I connect and everything works perfectly. Streaming is smooth, downloads are fast, and I forget the VPN is even running.
Then without changing anything on my end, the next day feels completely different. Pages take longer to load, youtube drops the video quality and large downloads slow down much more than I'd expect.
I've tried switching between servers and sometimes that fixes it immediately. Other times, every nearby server seems to perform about the same.
It made me wonder whether the slowdown is actually caused by:
- server congestion
- ISP routing
- the VPN protocol
- or just internet traffic at certain times of the day
I'm not trying to say either VPN is bad, I’ve had good experiences with both overall but I didn't expect the performance to vary this much from one day to another.
Has anyone else seen this with Proton, Nord, Mullvad, Surfshark or another provider?
