Upgrading incoming freshman

I updated an incoming freshman in training and none of the points carried over. It seems that I just lost them.

Hidden Gem in Transfer Portal?

What does hidden gem mean in the portal? This guy seems to not be very good, but does this mean the scouting ratings may be falsly low for him or something?
