[CHAPTER 1] Advice requested concerning complexity
Hello! I want to start by mentioning I did some digging on here and found some threads with advice, but I wanted to check now that chapter one is complete. I am also feeling quite indecisive, so maybe a comment here will help sway me. :)
I really enjoy Arkham Horror LCG, but after playing the core and Dunwich a while back, I had a hiatus from the game I recently returned to it with the chapter 2 core set, but struggled to get back to grips with the rules, keywords, and flow. Some health issues have meant times of decreased energy and cognitive function, which can make complex games a challenge.
This has made me realize that Chapter 2’s shorter campaigns might be a good fit for me, but even more so, that lower complexity campaigns should be a priority. So I have the new campaign on pre-order, but want to think about the chapter 1 content that might fit well for me in my current situation.
Assuming I have access to all of Chapter 1 except Scarlet Keys, what would you suggest as campaigns that feel a bit simpler to run, in terms of keywords, interactions, tracking, etc.? I am not as concerned about difficulty in winning (though more likely to win in true solo is a plus), but more so on the mental load of setting up and playing.
I already know Dunwich and Carcosa will be two of the least complex, but I see some differing opinions when it comes to others. Some say Forgotten Age isn‘t too bad, others say it is among the most complex. I have seen Edge of the Earth mentioned as a good starter campaign for new players, while others say it is a box that had a big jump up in complexity from previous ones. Similarly, I have seen Innsmouth mentioned as easy to run, and others say it is a lot.
I would also be interested in hearing thoughts on the complexity of standalones.
tl;dr - now that chapter 1 is complete, how would you rank the campaigns and/or standalone scenarios in order of complexity (managing the campaign, tracking things, card interactions, keywords, and just the general amount of mental energy required to play)?
Thanks in advance.
