New to the game, scared of the "real time" part

Hi everyone!

I've rewatched the Villeneuve movies this week and am nearly at the end of the first book, so when I've heard there was a strategy Dune game, I got hyped.

I've only played a bit of Total War Warhammer 3, and am not familiar with 4x games, but as someone who enjoys strategy, and politic decision making over complex military gestion, I think this game might be what I need.

But the fact it's not turn based scares me. I need some time to think and read everything. Is it really a thing or is the game "slow" enough to let me have some time to think? I know solo modes have a pause button, but I'm thinking more of the multiplayer side of it.

Thanks for anyone helping!

I feel like the game is undersold by its comparison with FromSoft

Let me explain.

(I'm French so excuse my spelling mistakes!)

As a huge FromSoft fan, before buying the game, I've always been told it was a "good game nearly as good as a Dark Souls". That the game was imperfect but the closest we have to what Fromsoftware can do.

So I went in with low expectations, really expecting to see something good but not amazing. And after finishing the whole game + DLC, I can proudly say that Lies Of P is my favorite Souls-like ever.

Above Bloodborne, above Sekiro, above any Dark Souls.

It's obvious it was made to stick to the souls genre, but it's with passion and love more than just a need to copy. Look at all the little improvements they made to the FromSoft formula to make it more fun, or intuitive... Like, the possibility to use the ergo in your inventory directly in the level up menu, or the red glowing circle when you stagger an ennemy. It's not just "nearly as good as a FromSoft", it's as good as, with its unique qualities and flaws.

Even if I feel Bloodborne has a better overall lore, or Sekiro a more satisfying gameplay for example, Lies Of P just has some qualities none of them has.

The game has no bad bosses (even if some are better than others, they're all at least fun, and not other Fromsoftware achieved that), a better storytelling (by that I mean how the lore is accessible and fun to follow, how the story has direct implications on what you see and encounter), way better characters and NPC quests, etc...

The biggest achievement of the game, above the many improvements done on the Souls formula, is how great they mastered teasing, build up, and pay-off. Okay, some bosses are cool, but they're so much more impactful when it's a boss you've heard about for multiple hours, building up hate for it, or even regret...

And I've never felt so sad, or emotionally impacted by a souls game. And this is Just so good, this feeling of emptiness after finishing the game, and knowing you will never experience this for the first Time ever again.

So one last time, it's not "nearly as good as a FromSoft", it's amazingly good, and should not be sold that way.
