A little scary in the moment, but still pretty cool to look back on. And yes, I did report it immediately!

Applying for an apartment and I intend to use my loans as income. But, I can't give proof of loans as income if I can't pull out loans yet. Does anyone have an ETA? Master's in CUPPA btw
Hi, we're about to apply for an apartment. It's a legitimate place owned by a legitimate company and I spoke directly to the property manager in person and phone/email. The only concern we have is that the application is a PDF/paper form that's honestly kind of bare. It asks for employment and income info, but not for any verifying documents like paystubs. Also, it asks for our SSN, which is what we're worried about providing. I emailed the property manager asking if there's a more secure way to provide SSN (there apparently isn't an online version of the application), but if he says no, what do you think I should do? Everything else seems legitimate, I saw it in person and everything. Thanks y'all!
Mine is usually the row right in front of the exit doors. If that's taken, I go for the row next to the exit doors instead. I like being near the exit so I don't have to push through people when it's busy. As much as I like the single sideways seat behind the driver, it makes it hard to see what stop is next, so I only sit there if I'm on a route I know by heart.
Edit: how could I forget. In articulated buses I always sit in the middle slinky part!!!
"The following fees are due at time of application:
• A $75 non-refundable Lease Application Fee for each adult (18 years or older)
• A $700 Lease Processing Fee (one per unit, not per applicant, refunded if not approved)
• No Security Deposit!"
Found a gem of an apartment that we're touring tomorrow. I had to send in pics of my driver's license/ID before confirming the tour, which I also thought was weird but didn't have a problem doing. I looked into the property management company and they have great reviews. I am used to application fees but this Lease Processing Fee is new to me. What do you think? Will I be scammed out of 700 dollars? What are my avenues for getting this refunded if I somehow don't get approved?
Hi! I'm on the apartment hunt for something near UC but without Hyde Park prices. I found an apartment that I really love but I'm not super familiar with the area and I've heard mixed reviews so I'd love some insight.
It's in West Woodlawn, more specifically (but not specific enough to dox) above 61st and between Cottage Grove and Eberhart. The block seemed fine but again I'm not super familiar with the area.
For reference, right now I'm in Tri-Taylor near Roosevelt and Western. I've seen my fair share of sketchy shit (a car got lit on fire 5 mins away from my apartment) but I also know West Woodlawn is one of the historically "rough" areas of the city. Any insight is appreciated because this apartment is so perfect 🥺😭 thank you!
Hi. I know it's too early for August 1st listings to pop up, but I just wanted to put some feelers out and see if anyone here was planning on moving out of an apartment that matches our needs! Or, if anyone has recommendations for apartment buildings they enjoy, I'll keep an eye out!
Move in range: August 1st
Price: Ideally no more than 2700 but I can be a little flexible- I've seen plenty in-range on Zillow but none for August 1st :(
Location: Bronzeville/Kenwood/Hyde Park/etc (Within 25-30m of UChicago by transit ideally as one roommate will be attending UChicago, but I work downtown and go to UIC so something near ME or a bus like the 3/4/6/28 would be great)
SQ: I don't really care as long as I can fit a full-sized bed in my room lol. Currently living in a shoebox so anything will be an improvement
Bed/Bath: 3bed. 1bath is fine but even 1.5bath would be huge!
Pets: 1 cat
Any other amenities you are looking for: In-building laundry (I don't want in-unit), ideally no pests and no garden apts. I'm blessed to live in a pest-free building on the west side rn and it is the one thing I will be very sad to leave behind :( None of us have cars so there will not be any parking needs either.
Thanks!
Yesterday I was by the California Blue Line stop and saw a 4-car train marked "not in service" head towards O'Hare. My boyfriend thought they could have been from the Pink Line (we see the reverse happen often since we live off the Forest Park branch) but I didn't think the Pink Line ran 3200-series cars. Any idea what it could've been? Edit: This was around noon ish!
