Where are the ladies who climb ice and technical mountains??

Ladies! If you ice climb or enjoy technical mountaineering (rainier, denali, baker, etc), I wanna meet you! Comment below! I need inspiration!

About me: I’m a trad climber and beginner alpine climber but taking up skiing and ice climbing this winter (super psyched). I’ve had a hard time finding women in these disciplines both IRL and online. Of course there are the pros who are AWESOME but curious about non pro women too.

When to take a lower paying job for quality of life?

love this sub and value the multigenerational and multi perspective aspect of it, so curious if anyone has had a similar situation to me.

stats:

age: 23 and some change

invested: ~55k

NW (savings, investments, no property yet): ~85k

salary: 123k (was 105 from 21-23 and just went up to this 6 months ago)

expenses monthly: 4k ish right now but over half of that is rent…it’s insane…other than rent i live a pretty chill life. no debt of any kind.

currently investing around 30k a year with the new salary across maxing roth ira, 401k (including 4% match), brokerage here and theee. i live in VHCOL for the job but don’t expect to settle there. expecting to move MCOL when i quit this job to switch careers.

currently working tech-adjacent and i am in a fortunate position (for an office job). i’ve been able to invest a lot and am on track for coast fire by december 2028 with throwing in bonuses, etc. latest march 2029.

when i’m coast fire i would like to quit office job life and switch to a career that is outside with people all day doing what i love but only pays 60k ish.

has anyone done something like this? i know i am young to already be hating my job and i don’t want to quit too soon. but i feel great about my financial position for my age. thoughts? can i even quit sooner? LOL…

in case it helps: expenses when i move for the new career should be no rent for at least a year (family home) and i expect about 1-2k in costs.

ynab is helping me reach COAST FIRE

just a grateful thank you to ynab today. i’ve been using it for ~20 months and in that time ive managed to achieve a savings rate of 32% using ynab! i was doing a mid-year review of my finances this week and realized that the extra money i’ve been assigning to investments has been paying off because i am 24 months away from COAST FIRE! this is a milestone i want to achieve so that i can quit my job and pivot careers to a more creative field knowing that i’m already set up for a healthy retirement. i <3 ynab :))

Request: help me figure out my CoastFi number and monthly investment goal (23 with NW 82k)

Hi all! Looooove lurking on this sub and Ive used the calculators several times, but I’m getting different numbers. I despise my job and general career path and if I leave I can have super low expenses but right now I feel I am caught in those classic golden handcuffs.

23 with NW 82k:

401k: ~32k (incl employer match totally vested)

Roth IRA: ~9.5k

Brokerage: ~5k

HYSA: ~35.5k

Current Income: ~115k (~72k after 401k/taxes)

Yearly Expenses (VHCOL): ~60k

High rent is killing me (2300/mo) and my ability to invest more However, if I were to leave this job and switch careers to the industry I want to be in long-term, income and expenses would change dramatically.

Proposed Income: ~70-80k

Proposed Expenses: ~30-40k

The problem is, I would like to make the most of this job‘s financial opportunity while I can, but I’m already in a subsidized apartment and that’s the cheapest housing option around. I’m interviewing for jobs that make ~160k which would be awesome - I could afford to max out both 401k and roth ira at that income.

Since I am so young I know time is on my side and I’d like to take advantage!

Anyways, just asking for help calculating the coastFi numbers and advice/thoughts from others older than me! Thanks!
