Is there a way to change the low gas alert to something different than 14 miles left to go?

Why would Toyota make the low gas/distance to E so short?

Almost certain it’s related to the starter and/or electrical connections associated with it but after off roading with some water crossings that were about as deep as the top of my wheels (stock size w/ 2 inch lift); I’m having an intermittent starting issue the next day.

Sometimes I just get a click. Sometimes I hear a brief whirring noise after the click and then sometimes a hard start like it’s taking a moment to crank over. Otherwise the vehicle runs great. Trip home was 280 miles and had no issues driving. Any help to narrow it down or confirm my suspicions would be appreciated.
