Built a Molle panel for the trunk

Got my first 3D scanner Sunday night, learned how to 3D model in Fusion 360 and Autocad Monday, created this beauty. First time working with aluminum as well so I'm super happy with how it turned out. Minor modifications will be made if anyone wanted to buy one just to make install process easier.

The center left mounting point is missing a bolt because I'm still waiting to make a 3D printed spacer for more rigidity along with the plastic trim missing on the right center mount since I was just test fitting.

Next step is powder coating copper to match my wheels, I'm very excited.

Feedback greatly appreciated!

What do you think?

I’m looking at this 2020 4 runner, 82k miles for $34k. Overall the body is pretty good shape besides cosmetic scratches and stuff touched up. The inside doors have bad scratches assuming the owner had a dog possibly. Would you think this price is reasonable? Ik this is lower than any I’ve seen but would I be reasonable for me to counter offer because of the scratches. What would you guys do

2021 4Runner TRD Pro, 70k mi, $45kclean CARFAX, Lunar Rock vs 2023 ORP. looking for ownership/reliability input

I’m considering a 2021 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro 4WD in Lunar Rock for work in remote desert terrain. It has approximately 70,000 miles, a 4.0L V6, 5-speed automatic, part-time 4WD with low range, and a clean CARFAX. Asking price is $45,000, with shipping/fees separate but comparable to other options. I will be driving 3 hrs per day on the road and also off road in the Mojave daily.

Location: Huntington Beach, California; I would register it in Nevada.

Condition/history:

- Clean CARFAX, no reported accidents.

- 3 owners including dealerships

- I will get an independent pre-purchase inspection before buying.

- I plan to keep it stock; no lift, aftermarket suspension, oversized tires, or major modifications planned.

Factory equipment that matters to me:

- Fox suspension with rear reservoirs.

- Factory all-terrain tires.

- TRD front skid plate.

- Locking rear differential, Crawl Control, Multi-Terrain Select, and 4LO.

- Dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, JBL audio.

- Lunar Rock is my favorite fifth-gen color and I strongly prefer it over white.

I am also considering a 2023 TRD Off-Road Premium 4WD at about $44,000 with roughly 30,000 miles, 4.0L V6/5-speed automatic, in white. It was corporate-owned and has a CARFAX-reported moderate accident, though the airbags did not deploy. The dealer says it has been inspected, has driven it personally, and would offer a warranty at cost. It appears stock, but I would still obtain repair records and an independent body/frame/mechanical inspection.

I understand the newer ORP has a substantial mileage and age advantage. My concern is that the accident history will affect both long-term confidence and resale, while the clean Pro has the factory equipment, color, and history I prefer.

How much weight would you place on a clean-history 2021 Pro at 70k miles versus a newer, 30k-mile ORP with a moderate non-airbag accident?

Photos are mostly of the 23 with the accident showing the front end where the damage is reported.

Cali Raised roof rack went up today!

I added the 360 lighting kit, grab handles, awning mounts, and a front light bar. Gonna take it out and get some real pictures. We will post those when I take them.

152,000 miles in six years. Hoping I don’t lose her anytime soon!

I’ll definitely look back at my 5th Gen as “the” vehicle of my life. Probably because I’ll never be crazy enough to spend that much again😂

I abused its odometer for the first few years with a travel job. Hoping I get lucky and have it around for 300K.

No horsepower gains, but I just hooked this up - drove around for a half hour and it really did work cooling may neck / back…. Granted you gotta’ have a/c running.

Simple 3 speed fan that doesn’t look obtrusive / janky, pulling the already cold air and blowing it right on my neck / back. Funny shit you find on amazon - I’m going to test it out over the next couple days and at $15 I’ll probably grab another for the passenger side 😆.

Plugs into a usb plug, so I don’t have to worry about a battery issue.

Live in a hot climate…..maybe it’s for you as well 👀.

First Time 4Runner Buyer

Hello Redditors of the off-road variety!

I am making the move into the 4Runner world and am a bit intimidated by the lineup and options. I will be doing the following with my 4Runner and am curious if everything checks-out:

-Towing my little boat around (<4000lbs)
-Hitting many national parks and camping (CA/AZ/OR/WA/NV/UT)
-Stuffing the vehicle with things like my surfboards, mountain bikes, climbing equipment
-Light to moderate off-roading, primarily service roads, dirt roads etc. to get to rivers/lakes/summits
-No extreme off-roading like bouldering or crawling etc.

I am looking at the base 2026 SR5 model w/ the 4WD option, as I don't think I will utilize anything on the higher models. As this will be my only vehicle, and I need to commute during the week, I am purchasing new for maximum reliability/warranty/etc., not interested in a used vehicle as my only car. I am sure at some point I will get better off-road capable tires and maybe some suspension upgrades, but that is probably the extent of upgrades. It is hard to justify a $5k-$10k price difference for higher trims when I doubt I will every need/use any of them. This will also be my first 4WD off-road capable vehicle, so my skill and comfortability on what off-road challenges I take on will be mild, at least to begin I'd imagine.

Anyways, curious on the communities thoughts and input on the above, perhaps some advice or anecdotes as to why a base model may or may not be the right move?

New 4Runner Hybrid Limited

I finally made the move away from “German engineering” and picked up a new 4Runner after hearing about their popularity and famous longevity. I’m really liking it so far! The hype makes much more sense now. Cheers!

safety for teen drivers

Does anyone have any thoughts on the safety of 5th generation 4Runner for teens learning to drive, especially on mountain roads? We had an ancient 4Runner for decades and it was a tank and was great, but we sold it when moving out of the country. Now we are back and really want a used 4Runner (probably between 2015-2022). Google tell me that the 5th generation was a bit behind its peers in terms of safety features (side impact airbags, etc.), and that makes me a bit nervous as a safety-nerd. It's primarily going to be our mountain car (skiing, hiking, biking, camping) but kids will also learn to drive on it (and we have an older Volvo too). Is the 6th gen a big jump up in terms of safety?

After the Fluid Film Treatment

I just got a an annual fluid film undercoat, and I’m a fan because if the effectiveness against rust where road salt is used a lot. However, there are two things one might not be entirely prepared for after the treatment.

  1. The undercoating is a very effective lubricant for the brakes. I was surprised by how hard it was to stop initially, but driving around and using the brakes burned it off relatively soon.

  2. I also noticed that the body exterior was misted with the agent. A car wash will likely take care of that, but be prepared to clean the windows - the windshield was very greasy, and needed window cleaner (not just the windshield washer) to remove it.

These are minor issues, but something to be aware of when you get fluid film.

4Hi or 4Lo?

Hello out there!! 👋

Quick question, my wife and I have been enjoying our new to us 09 V6 SR5 fully stock 4Runner for a little over a year now. Besides some Kumho All Weather tires, a little bit of brake work and routine fluids, I’ve done no other work on it. We’ve enjoyed some decent inclines and rock sections but no mud or real big rocks or boulders. I’ve only used 4Hi on our off road excursions thus far and same went for today’s adventure on Johnny Park Road near Hwy 7 near Allenspark, CO down to Hwy 36 and it did phenomenal! Besides a slip or two (poor line choice on my end) I didn’t feel like the truck struggled much at all. I’m sure a decent set of A/T tires would be a much better choice but not quite ready for new tires until we get a little bit closer to winter. Anyhow’s, I’ve been reading some mixed reviews on whether the type of trail I did today would have been better in 4Hi or 4Lo? Any insight is greatly appreciated!

Video is from after our adventure down Johnny Park Road!!

What do you think the sound is?

What do you think this sound is caused by and how do I fix it? It only rattles like this when I have the car in reverse or drive and I am stationary with my foot on the break. It does not happen in park or while I am moving in gear. 2019 TRD ORP

Creative ways to cover up?

Any creative low cost options for covering up this dent? It unfortunately goes over the PR in PRO but I would be fine if somehow there was a way to add something above it so that it didn’t look quite so bad? I’ve thought about bumpers with spare tire etc but those seem to get pretty spendy / almost the cost of having body work done. If there was some type of decal or something to partially cover it up and not look super weird? It’s a 2024 trd pro. Thanks in advance. less
