KFD Japan & USA CDs
I had been looking for a Japanese copy of KFD for years and finally scored a complete used copy on Ebay. My main objective was to get a quality rip of Tokyo's on Fire. In my opinion, one of the best songs on the record. Criminal that it was only available in Japan.
I also wanted to see what was different in terms of packaging or sound. For packaging, let's face it, KFD didn't come in a quality package no matter what side of the pond you were on. Neither is in a jewel case. The Japanese edition does feel less cheap with smoother material and lacks the ugly plastic clamp. It also includes a booklet with the lyrics in English and Japanese. Curiously, the lyrics for Tokyo's on Fire are missing an entire verse section from the track itself.
Colors and labeling differ on the CD print. The US version simply has KFD printed while the Japanese version uses the album's full name in shiny letters.
Sound quality, they're nearly identical. Unless you're doing a direct comparison, you'll have a hard time noticing. The Japanese edition has a slight edge in clarity, particularly on high notes and background effects. I first noticed it on Killahead while stepping through the tracks.
