First time playing Fallout 4
Went all crazy with the visuals mods, as I don't have a modern PC I had to get creative.
It looks amazing, having a blast so far.
If anyone's curious, it's pretty much:
-Interiors enhanced
-Darker Nights
-Pip-boy flashlight
-And Reshade JUST for basic post processing (Film grain, vignette and chromatic aberration)
-Along with a bunch of gimmick mods, as for example seen in the photos Automatically Lowered Weapons)
What's the industry standard condition for going from movement to idle?
I'm developing a 3D third-person game and struggling with the transition from movement to idle.
I started by using input magnitude, but when the player switches directions quickly (like a 180), the input vector passes through zero, triggering a brief, unwanted idle state.
Switching to velocity seems like the next step, but how do games account for external movement? For example, if wind is pushing the character, or if they are sliding, raw velocity would incorrectly trigger a walking/running animation.
What is the standard practice for setting up these animation state transitions?
Concepts should be universal, but if it helps, I'm using unity.
Does anyone else find the "standalone" label for Elantris frustrating?
I know it is technically true from a strictly narrative point of view, but there is so much left that was obviously planned for sequels. I personally found it frustrating when I first read it because of how people labeled the book.
The different magic systems are a clear example of this, but the most obvious for me was the Wyrn’s presence. I felt like the story was building him up as a major antagonist and then... nothing? He didn't even appear?
How doable is, to expect a first novel to be great?
I've searched and well, writing is a habit of practice, first things are expected to be on the ugly side. But i really want my first novel to be great.
I'm not rushing, i don't expect it to turn good early, i'm expecting rough drafts and lots of editing, but... is it doable? like, eventually?
There is examples of course, Patrick Rothfuss is one that comes to mind, that did a great debut from pure brute forcing editing. It was a hell of a long time tho.
Thing is, i started writing because of this novel, not the other way around, i feel discouraged to think it could be mediocre. I can't control the impact it will have, but quality wise i want it to be good.
