PSA: For anybody who is visiting the Cherry Blossom Festival at Auburn Gardens this weekend 🌸

If you're going for the food you're going to love it. There are some great vendors and lots of amazing food!

But if you're going for the flowers (cherry blossoms in particular) you may be disappointed. I live a street away and have been visiting daily and they just haven't blossomed yet. My advice is delay a week if you can. I'm only posting this because I'd have the shits if I paid to visit somewhere for something and it wasn't there.

Happy to answer any questions 🌸

Ujin Matcha and Tokyo Canteen

Today I went to Ujin Matcha and Tokyo Canteen and both were such a letdown.

I'd been to Ujin Matcha a couple of months ago and loved it. The service was great and it was easily the best matcha I'd had in Canberra. This time it was the complete opposite...The place wasn't busy at all, but the staff were standing around laughing with each other and on their phones. My matcha was so bland it just tasted like milk. I'd been looking forward to going back because my last visit was so good, but I don't think I'll be making the trip again.

Then I went to Tokyo Canteen for lunch. The food was average at best, but the service was what really ruined it. The staff were rude and came across like they just didn't want to be there. They were standing around chatting and laughing with each other. I even noticed them laughing about customers after they'd left, which was pretty disappointing to see.

I know both of these places are generally well reviewed and get recommended a lot, so maybe I just caught them on a bad day. But after today's experiences, I left disappointed by both. Has anyone else noticed a drop in quality recently, or was I just unlucky?

Beat Sunday Farmers Market?

Hey everyone

I'm visiting this weekend and would like to go to a Sunday farmers market to stock up food for the week to take home. We tried Capital Region Market last time we were there and weren't too happy with it.

We're looking at Haig Park or Southside farmers this Sunday. We're particularly looking for fresh fruit and veggies. Meats is a bonus but just looking for some nice produce.

Thanks for any help!

Need some recommendations for 3 young families visiting next month.

Hey everyone,

I have invited some of my sons school friends for a weekend away to Canberra and need a bit of help with dinner recommendations. We are 6 adults and 6 kids (aged 3-6) and looking for family friendly locations which would be able to accommodate.

Happy to travel around, happy with something easy and simple too 😊

Thanks!

Hey everyone,

I visit Canberra once a year and have not found a decent place that makes matcha. I found Supersweet Cafe way too sweet and that has been the highest recommended on Google at the time. I have just done another quick google search and there seems to have been a few new cafes pop up which is really nice to see.

If anyone can point me in the direction that does proper whisked matcha (not pre mixed) I would greatly appreciate it 🙏
