Devs, are you actively doing anything to preserve your coding abilities or have you resigned yourself to not writing code?

I’m a software engineer of over 25 years and I’ve always loved coding, especially problem solving with code. Like most of us I’ve gone pretty all in on agentic coding over the last 6 months or so. For the most part I love it especially all of the mundane stuff I don’t have to do anymore and the time I’m able to spend doing other things, but I keep having this nagging feeling that I can feel myself getting more removed from the code. I used to pride myself on understanding the entire application but these days I’ll admit the code quality has gotten good enough that I don’t feel the need to absorb much at all. I mostly focus on UX and even then I’m prompting the agent to make those changes.

So how have you handled this? Can you relate?

Blind-watched The Void last night, I can't believe this movie came and went and I never heard anything about it.

I saw it was from the producers of The Witch so I decided to start it. It hooked me right from the start and the performances were good enough to keep me engaged through the whole movie. I loved how it took a while to come out and tell you what the main plot was but showed you plenty of great practical effects and tense moments to keep you interested.

>!There are some incredibly disturbing creature effects that really surprised me. It reminded me a lot of Event Horizon with graphic depictions of torture, mutilation and dark nihilism. The main weakness of the movie to me was while I understood WHY Dr. Powell was doing what he was doing but I didn't really understand how bringing his daughter back as a grotesque creature was something he wanted. !<

Hey all, I've been collecting blu-rays and 4Ks for about four years now and my collection is about 850 movies. As a software engineer I've been disappointed at the apps that are available for managing movie collections, but I hadn't had the time to create something better. Then last year I decided to stop putting it off and focus on building the tool I wanted. Now I'm opening it up to you.

It's not 100% complete yet but I've been using it to manage my collection and it has made the process fun, it truly feels like it enhances my joy of collecting physical media, it's not just a tool it's an enhancement to the experience.

I'll be transparent, there is a pro version of the service that I'm working on defining and it will have an associated cost, there's no way around that since it costs me money to offer this service, but I haven't determined the cost yet. For now I'm granting helpful users free pro accounts for helping me test this out and submitting feedback. If you would like a pro account use the app and report feedback and you just might get one!

If you're willing to go on the journey with me and help shape this into the best movie collection app in the world, let's do it! https://mydisq.com/

Build a real collection, not a list

  • A focus on beautiful design and a pleasant user experience
  • Track every physical copy you own, not just the movie — so your two Blu-rays and a 4K Steelbook of Blade Runner all live side by side
  • Stack view groups copies under one card, so a shelf of 780 movies with 869 versions stays clean
  • Capture format (4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD, VHS, LaserDisc, Digital), packaging (Steelbook, Digibook, Slipcover, Mediabook, Collector's), and condition
  • Box sets expand into their contents, so a box doesn't hide the films inside
  • Gamification with badges and milestones for building out your collection and hitting goals
  • Customize artwork on a per-copy basis allows you to accurately reflect having multiple editions of the same film

Add movies fast

  • Scan barcodes with your any camera to add a disc in seconds
  • Smart matching that catches wrong-year scraper hits before they end up in your library
  • Bring your Letterboxd history in via CSV with a verification step before anything's saved

Find the gaps and grow your collection

  • "Movies you need" (lol) surfaces movies missing a format you collect, so you can finish a series or upgrade to 4K
  • Add wishlist and gap items with the right format/packaging

Discover what to watch next

  • Browse a director's or actor's full filmography and see what you already own
  • Watch planner and watch log to actually get through the pile
  • Filming locations pulled from real-world data for travel and trivia

Show off the shelves

  • Public profile at so collectors can share their library
  • Shareable lists and wishlists for friends, swaps, etc

Manage large collections

  • Bulk edit dozens of items at once (re-tag a whole shelf as Steelbook, fix conditions, etc.)
  • Field-level history so you can see what changed and when
  • Milestones that celebrate hitting 100, 500, 1000 movies

Tons more I have planned!

  • A movie butler service that has a full understanding of your collection and can answer questions, offer insights give details about upcoming releases you might be interested in, etc.
  • Upcoming/pre-release tracker. I'm a huge fan of several boutique labels like Second Sight, Manta Lab, Arrow and I want to create a centralized location for tracking what they're releasing and when.
  • Shelf Planner: specify your shelving dimensions and we'll help you create a plan for placing them. Allows you to specify shelves to leave empty for decor or other items and recognizes case dimensions so it can accurately place movies.
  • Shelf photo import: Take a photo of a shelf and we'll recognize the movies you own and add them to your collection.
  • Multi-format movies: Looking for better ways to document those DVD+Blu-Ray+4k combination titles so you truly keep track of what you own
  • Challenges: Let's you play games related to your collection, think "watch 5 movies from your collection that you haven't seen before" or "pickup a grail by the end of the month".
  • Custom fields
  • Pricing/value intelligence: how much is this edition worth, pricing trend, recent sale prices, etc
  • Loan tracking
