My First Project

This is my first time attempting Sashiko and I'm already planning my next project! It's very time consuming but so worth the time and effort! I got all my supplies from SnugglyMonkey. I used transparent dissolving paper to get the grid on the fabric. None of my fabric pens/pencils worked on this fabric for some reason

Cal Skate Under New Ownership - closing for unknown amount of time after Aug. 16th

"We've got some news. To some it's going to be sad, or even heartbreaking. To others the news can be taken as encouraging and exciting. Either way, it's news that needs to be publicly announced at this time. Sunday, August 16th, will be Cal Skate Chico / FunLand Chico's last operating day. After 48 years, it's time to play one last song, one last game of red light green light, one last couples skate - at least under the name of Cal Skate / FunLand. The encouraging side of the announcement is that the location is being purchased by a group that is looking to do a similar, but upgraded, business plan. As far as we know, still a family entertainment center, still complete with the skating rink, miniature golf course, and the batting cages. There are many more details to come out in the coming weeks. We just wanted to give as much notice as possible. Please see the attached letter from the current owners addressing the community. Also, please see in the "comments" below a post of (as we know them) questions and answers (a Q & A). Further questions can be directed to this email: calskateinfo@icloud.com. As simply as we can state it, THANK YOU to all the generations of families/skaters/friends that came through our doors since 1978. Come say goodbye with us on a special final skate night: Sunday, August 16th - 5:30pm - ?"

Stay Safe!

I would refrain from walking on the high car traffic roads right now. I was just walking down Bruce road at apox. 6:25pm and someone going 20mph in a 4 door sedan threw a knotted sock containing loose coins at me. Hit me in the inner thigh and did NOT feel good. There were two cars it could have come from. I couldn't tell if it came from the white or black car, they were driving very close to each other, both were small sedans though. I didn't see any faces or hear any voices/music. It was a black adidas sock and nothing special about the coins. I was wearing very neutral clothing and nothing that suggested I was gang affiliated. Probably some stupid bored high schoolers but if this hit me in the face it could have caused some serious damage!

Be careful out there and stay safe!!

A dozen storefronts closed downtown in the last year. Main and Broadway are built as a thoroughfare, not a destination — and downtown is paying the price. The Downtown Revitalization Project would widen the sidewalks, calm the traffic, and give people a reason to stop and stay. Three councilmembers voted it down one being Mayor Reynolds(owner of Shubert's Ice Cream and Candy), should recuse herself from the vote, but has not yet stepped down. Tom Van Overbeek owns — as he puts it — "half a block" in downtown Chico, renting to Parkside Tap House, Metric Cosmetics, and the KRCR news station. He recused himself from the vote. That's what you're supposed to do when a decision materially affects real property you own within 500 feet.

Stobles Coffee supports the Revitalization Project and has made a website to educate Chico members on the importance of this project to our city. It also provides the tools you can use to help support the project without you leaving your home! Please read through the information, sign the petition, and file a formal complaint requesting Mayor Reynolds to remove her vote from this decision.

Stobles Informational Website for Revitalization Project

Edit:

Keep in mind, the streets of downtown Chico are already approved and scheduled for demolition to repair the outdated sewer system. If everything is going to be torn up and normal day-to-day life disrupted downtown, why not improve the design when putting everything back?

The Stobles Website lists 20 businesses that are in the heart of downtown Chico who have written letters of support for the Revitalization Project. The business owners recognize the positivite impact this project will have on their business and Chico as a whole. Many of the business owners of downtown Chico approve this project!
