Favorite Non-BL with BL elements/vibes? I'll go First

My two favorite genres of comic are BL and supernatural horror, so I will go for any crossover between these two elements. "Tales of the Hundred Monsters Next Door" is excellent. So far i think there are 2 English volumes released, theyre funny, spooky, cute, the main characters have better chemistry than some full-fledged BL I've read. The main character is a gay man with a fat crush on the older kimono-wearing gentleman who helps him with his paranormal issues, and uses him to expand his collection of supernatural artifacts and experiences. The first volume is mostly a single story, but in the second volume, every chapter is its own, mostly self-contained ghost story involving the 2 main characters in some way and I love that format. Every ghost and supernatural place or object really has its own personality and history that they take some lesson from. When it comes to supernatural not-bl-but-kinda im sure that more people would look to "The Summer Hikaru Died" but I love this series more than TSHD for its variety of spirits, and involving older more masculine men (by bl standards). Jinpachi is so handsome and I relate to his yearning for that old man. P.S. would you sell your soul in return for however much cash is in your wallet right now?

"Sweeten The Deal" was so good I miss them already

I have soo many screenshots of the background/incidental characters, their designs are so funny. I loved the couple, they were really cute and sweet and I really wish this was longer, and am sad i got through it as fast as I did. I think the "meeting the family" plot could have lingered a wee bit longer, but the resolution was quick and hilarious, and I love when the bottom slaps the tops ass. I wish we could see more of these babies' time together, but I am absolutely in love with what we got. I pray a beautiful man like Dajeong enters my life 🫠

Honey Darling Vs. Two Guys At The Vet Clinic compare and contrast (spoilers for plot)

I read Honey Darling first, and now maybe a month later I picked up Two Guys At The Vet Clinic (henceforth TGATVC) and their similarities and differences struck me. Both are single volume manga follow a young man who care for an unwell cat, bringing said cat to a vet clinic, and being inspired to work in the veterinary field by the head vet of said clinic, and eventually fall in love with the head vet. Where in Honey Darling, they mutually fall for each other over time until a confession, the love in TGATVC is for most of the time, one sided, with a clear pursuer and pursuant. The art of TGATVC is more cutesy than Honey Darling, and both have bonuses of one of their characters in maid dresses (lol), but unlike TGATVC, Honey Darling has smut. This is personal preference, but I think i greatly prefer Honey Darling for the more masculine and mature appearance of its main characters, and for the fact that they are actually together by the end of the book. In TGATVC, they do not become a couple, and leaves you wanting just a bit too much which I personally think is not something I want to see out of a oneshot. With the unsatisfying end I dont know that I could even recommend TGATVC, as I thoroughly frowned. I am liable to change that opinion IF any more volumes come out, but as is, its a standalone. If you like a one sided crush, slow burn, and dont mind an unsatisfying ending, go ahead and read TGATVC

If you like a more masculine and mature man, slowly developing mutual feelings, and a couple that is actually a couple by the time you've closed the book, read Honey Darling. If you like the veterinary clinic setting and want a BL with cats and/or dogs, you could read both but I think Honey Darling is the better option.

Please note, im writing this in my "That was it?!?!" unhappiness phase upon just completing TGATVC

Completed longer comedy recommendations please?

Preferably longer, decent plot, with a couple that is actually together for at least 1/2 the story (no last chapter slowburns for the love of God). Looking at my reading list rn it looks like too many drama based series and im just not feeling that, so please give me some good comedy series.

Normie Chad x Incel Chud who hates them?

Okay I KNOW this way of phrasing it is straight from hell but I find this dynamic hilarious in the pre get-together stage of a story. The only one off the top of my head is "Cherry Magic". I just love the one guy seething over the popular guy while the popular guy is all sunshine and rainbows and lollipops thinking about him. This post was made half to get recomendations and half to inflict the title on you all

The line between "Cute Yaoi Boy" and "Alien imitating a Cute Yaoi Boy" is very thin (Swing Baby)

Really really cute story so far, love the character dynamics, and the character you'd assume to be the tougher "alpha" type top being so pathetic, but really theyre both pretty pathetic. Last character is a woman but with this artstyle can be hard to tell. Maybe these panels only look off to my eye though, but all praise to the story and art in any case

Just Read: "Only My Psycho" (spoiler and trigger warnings)

TW: the work this review is for contains a character who is a necrophile, and some (pretty light but who am I to say that) erotic gore

Im big on fluff, action, and loving couples, and in its own fucked up way, this kind of had all that. A man with an attraction to blood and guts and death falling for an unkillable man (he can heal from any injury quickly, and as i understand it, effectively die and come back) is kinda a great dynamic, and I could 100% see this ending up as a black flag psychological story, but played for comedy as it is, theyre kinda yellow or red flags thatre perfect for each other in both being crazies that are mostly happy to give into the others upsetting qualities. I am a proponent of the fact that men are hotter when covered in blood, which this has a bit of, but I think Isagi miiiiiighhhhht be a little further down that spectrum than I am. Honestly a really good, funny, hot read with some crazy characters, and a couple that in the end, loves each other for all their warts. And even though we're comparing cowshit to horseshit here, at least the necro vehemently hates pedos so +(10^3×97)/138 points for that. Definitely not everyone's cup of tea, had me thinking it wasnt gonna be my cup of tea but oh god do I love this now.

Looking for Recs: rescued from toxic relationship

2 of my favorite examples of this are "Leave Room For Love" and " Lovesick Dog" but it came to mind again because I started reading "Melting Flirting Cookie" and I really would love to see something where some manipulative toxic asshole gets screwed over, and their victim gets to be comforted in the arms of a kinder man. Prefer fluff heavy, and not lingering on any plot of the victim being swayed to stay or go back to the bad partner

All earthly logic has gone out the window like 10 chapters ago (Gravitation)

I love absurd garbage and humor, and the relationship stuff is still great its just going extra bonkers at this point. K is the best character and I want him. I cant say everything happening makes sense but it sure isnt boring. Sorry to be posting updates to my reading experience daily but this is all just too good to keep bottled in my mind

u/Theinjuredtoa — 17 days ago

(Gravitation) may be the funniest BL manga I have ever read

Is it dated? Yes. Are there questionable elements throughout? Absolutely. Is the plot gonna get worse? Almost 100% guaranteed. BUT every single gag and joke here so far has been an absolute banger. The loud and exaggerated personalities that about half the characters carry, and especially Shuichi's unwavering blind confidence and idiot ploys make for the best moments ever, and the supporting cast poking fun at him for it all throughout, and just everything.

Ive been posting about this series a lot lately and while the art isnt exactly my thing, especially shuichi's progressive de-aging and feminizing, the humor and absurdity throughout are keeping me so hooked

Issue as old as time: the uke slowly morphing into a 12 year old (gravitation)

I was reading Gravitation after watching the anime for the first time and in the anime and just seeing the covers I kinda just ignored it as a quirk of the artstyle but actually looking at the art in the first volume thats not the same guy at all. I can let it slide cause Gravitation is kinda ancient and as far as I can tell, pretty near to smutless but Jesus Christ is it offputting

When im watching the Gravitation anime and it suddenly switches from the worst English dub on earth to the most heavenly Japanese pop-rock song ever

"Junjou Romantica" (Anime) sucks so good

I'll be honest, junjou romantica was maybe my third BL anime, and in almost every department it is kinda terrible from the artstyle that varies from okay...? To horrible, to the constant sexual harrassment and iffy age gaps and not really familial relationships its just bad but it has so much charm and such an upbeat, cloyingly sweet atmosphere.

My nighttime routine for a couple months now has been watching a couple episodes then drifting to sleep in the middle.

I will say I dont remember much about the couple who are basically normal dudes, and I dont remember the names of the brothers in law couple so thats maybe another strike, but usami and misaki are endlessly entertaining, if tiring to see him still stomping his feet trying to deny that hes into men.

Junjou romantica: 3/10

Would reccomend highly

Can anyone reccomend manga/manhwa/manhua in which the main couple raises a child

Ideally NOT omegaverse, mpreg or toxic? Have read: "our sunny days", "peach and her papas", "dont call me daddy"

I mightve asked something similar in the past but idk. Something about two men being motherly is very cute to me but omegaverse hierarchies tend to put me off, and mpreg outside of omegaverse is about 60/40 on if I'll find it gross

Why does it seem like no one has read "Hotel Pharus?"

I wont say its extraordinary but it is a (comparatively) short and very good read with a good "supernatural" mystery plot, a main couple with cute, loving, fluffy smut and little to no undue mistrust, a side couple brewing between a sly younger reporter and a silver haired bespectacled dilf, and yuri bait between the maids. The art is pretty cute, the story feels like it comes from the same family as "Murderous Llewellyn's" or "Count Tachibana" but lighter, shorter and fluffier with more smut. I recommend it highly but wont say its a groundbreaker

Hey mister kwon chill wit the grip ain't no one taking him from you

I feel as if everyone has already read Our Sunny Days because if how much I hear about it but im a bit late to the party cause I push anything thats way hyped up to the back of my reading list but I thought now is the time and hoo doggy I got tears in my eyes rn. The emotional beats hit hard, the misunderstandings and mutual crush are funny, and Mr kwon as a seal is always the funniest shit cause of how buff and serious he is otherwise. Peak so far

"The Tyrant Falls in Love" is great but OH MY GODDD WILL YOU JUST WRAP IT UP ALREADY!!!!!!!

this series is about old enough to drink in the US of A but Souichi still hasnt said "I love you", wont admit to being "in a relationship" with Morinaga despite all the couple things they do that he "doesnt hate". Thank God I didn't/couldn't read this as it was ongoing from the beginning cause I probably would have ripped my hair out. All the modern generation "let it marinate" manhwa girlies would be 6 feet under by the time this series was ready to cook. Still peak and very funny if rapey especially at the beginning... my pain is immeasurable that I now have to wait for more, honestly wish that the og couple from Challengers appeared more often in this cause theyre just so charming...

u/Theinjuredtoa — 1 month ago

Going back to basics, reading the classics, starting with "Challengers"

Challengers so far is very funny, at the same time heartwarming and heartbreaking. It has every type of character you could want, and I love a yearning salaryman. The homophobia being mostly played for laughs could be seen as problematic, but I find it relatable as a gayman having had many friends over the years who consider me "one of the good ones". I watched "The Tyrant Falls In Love" before reading this so none of the rival love interest stuff bothers me as much as it would otherwise cause I have light spoilers but god I hope Rick and his shitty accent go to hell
