Goggles Suggestions

2nd post in this sub. I am a long time RC heli pilot just getting into FPV. So far I have only flown a SIM. But I know enough that I am probably going to enjoy this hobby. I am probably going to start with a tiny whoop but I am unsure of goggles.

I do believe in spending a bit more and getting something better. But I don't have a huge budget. I really think I prefer a digital setup but my budget for goggles is probably closer to $200 maybe $300. I am intrigued by the beta fpv HD digital setup for $150.

I am curious as to suggestion on beta fpv vs HD Zero vs Walksnail? Any others ? Obviously I think DJI is out of my budget and I am concerned about the future DJI products.

“25 Years Flying RC Helis… Why Do FPV Quads Feel So Hard?

TLDR below.

So I’m making the jump into FPV freestyle quads after 25 years of flying RC, mostly 3D helis. I recently downloaded Uncrashed, plugged in my TX, and started learning. And wow… this is WAY harder than I expected. Assuming the sim physics are reasonably close to real life.

I think my biggest struggle is understanding how quads “want” to move compared to helicopters. With a heli, yaw feels intuitive. The aircraft has a nose, a tail, and a strong sense of directional travel. Point it where you want to go, manage collective/cyclic, done.

With quads, yaw feels… disconnected? Almost like it just spins the camera around without really changing the direction of travel. I feel like I have to physically tilt/point the props where I want to go, then add throttle to create movement… almost like little rocket boosters rather than an aircraft that naturally tracks forward.

I’m sure part of the answer is simply “more stick time,” and I’m fully prepared for that. But I can’t be the only long time heli/plane guy who made this transition.

Any tips, mindset shifts, drills, or specific things I should practice to improve? Did something “click” for you that made freestyle quads finally make sense?

TLDR: 25 years flying RC planes/helis, new to FPV quads. Quads feel unintuitive, especially yaw and directional control. Looking for tips from anyone who made a similar transition.
