David Regresses Despite Staying in Schitt’s Creek

I’m a fan of the show and have watched through 4 or so times now.

One thing which becomes more apparent and uncomfortable to watch is how David changes as the seasons go on.

At the start, he is low on confidence and sad, but appears to be more considerate than Alexis.
By the end, he is so rude to everyone, judges everything they do (even for him) with a quite vicious tone, starts randomly being the only character to say “fuck” for no reason.

Examples would be the episode(s) when Patrick proposes. His response to people finding out is awkwardly selfish, he is determined to do the horrible speech even on opening night of the show etc.
Or the even more difficult watch when he applies at Larry Air just because he thinks he is better than Stevie. And then when she gets the job he genuinely can’t be happy for her. Season 2 David would have been imo.

It’s nice that he stayed in Schitt’s Creek for Patrick, but this is the only character growth that he managed, compared to the others who drastically changed their perspectives.

The quality drop of Euphoria is maybe worse than The Boys. Which says a lot.

I cannot fathom how they thought that was a justifiable result after so many years. They were basically entirely different characters who never interacted, meaning everything we enjoyed from the first seasons was heavily diluted.
Somehow enormous sections were devoted to actual drug trade (cartel, DEA) and the battle between Alamo and Laurie etc. What has that got to do with this show? I don’t care about 100 new characters.

It is arrogant to think you can make an entirely different, 60s Hollywood pastiche tv show and actually have high quality. It had the vibe of a tv show where they all fall into a deep sleep and there is one episode where they think they’re in a different world - but they just never woke up.

10/10 shit.

EDIT: The reference to The Boys is not really my point (I’m just expressing that both were shit, really). My main point is that they fundamentally changed the genre of the show, stylistically and (less so) thematically, they used actors who were phoning it in, introduced brand new characters who the season then revolved around, and most scenes and storylines could have been entirely removed with no impact. That is terrible.
