Pre-Req advice

Alright so I decided to apply to PA school recently and I’m finishing up my pre-reqs. The only 2 classes I have left to take are organic chemistry and biochemistry for my top program.

My undergrad school does not offer biochemistry in the spring semester so they are allowing me to take it in the fall with Organic Chemistry. if I don’t take it this year I’ll have to delay my application another cycle.

I’m worried it would be too hard and I won’t be able to secure As. I’m applying with a 3.4 sgpa but I’ve made As in maybe 80% of my pre-reqs so far. I don’t want to mess up my recent grades or cause my science gpa to go down any further.

For those of you who have taken the classes, do y’all think it’s a bad idea? Would it be too much to handle? Those 2 would be the only classes I’m taking along with organic chemistry lab. Im also going down to working 20 hours a week.

Is this a realistic goal?? Thank you for any advice!!

I feel discouraged

I’m feeling super discouraged and overwhelmed. I have applied to both my in state schools and 2 out of state schools but I haven’t heard back. Do I have a chance this cycle? My stats are 3.55 gpa, 3.37 sgpa, 312 gre score, 1800 hours as a physical therapy tech and 300 as a MA. I am also a Hispanic male and first generation college student.

My science gpa is low but I’ve made As on most of my pre-reqs. I’ve made As on my science classes except general biology 1&2, general chemistry 2, and anatomy and physiology 1. I got a C but I retook it and made an A. My upwards trend isn’t the best either because I made Cs on some kinesiology classes. I think my last 60 hours is about a 3.4

I’m taking organic chemistry I this fall so I’m limited to schools that only allow in progress pre-reqs. I also haven’t taken biochemistry and I really don’t have the money to sign up for it. Plus my school doesn’t even offer it until the spring.

How do y’all figure out which schools to apply to? I’ve researched probably a hundred schools but all their average GPAs are much higher than mine.

Should I apply now or wait?

My application is complete and verified because my top 2 choices have an Auguest 1st deadline. However some of my other options have deadlines in September-March. My last 40-60 gpa is lower than I would like for it to be.

Would it be stupid if I wait until Auguest 3rd to apply so I can add 6 more hours of biology “A”s or apply now with what I have? My last 40 gpa would go from 3.4 to 3.6. My pre-req gpa is pretty solid with 3.7-3.8 to most programs but it would also recieve a small boost. Thank you for your help! I’m really struggling with what to do.

Edit: I also wanted to add one of those classes is a pre-req for 2 of my schools.

SCORED 312!!!

I took the GRE today and I scored a 312!!!! 152V and 160Q.

I know this isn’t good for the majority of people here but my goal was only to get 150V and 150Q and I did it!!! I took the GRE 3 weeks ago and I was absolutely devastated because I scored a 145V and 153Q after studying 3 months using gregmats 1 month plan.

I think what happened was that I was super nervous during the test and nerves got the best of me. It was my first time taking it so I didn’t know what to expect at the testing center. I was also super burned out because the week before I took it I spent 5 hours studying a day and I slept maybe 5 hours every night.

This time around I tried to relax a lot more. For the 3 weeks before my test I just tried to chill and only spent 1-2 hours a day studying because I already had been studying prior to this. I scheduled my test for 12 pm instead of 8am so I was able to take my time in the morning and sleep in. I also made sure to sleep good this whole week and eat a good breakfast this morning.

Verbal was tough for me. The main thing I did these last 3 weeks is do ETS verbal questions everyday and review day 20 on vocab mountain. I made sure I really knew each of those 600 words. For quant I rewatched all of the pepswift videos and did ets practice problems as well as gregmats medium quant practice sections. I also did 3 practice tests in this 3 week period. This helped me A TON with pacing because I ran out of time the first time I took it.

The program I was applying for had an average of 152 on both sections so I’m glad I was able to do it!! Goodluck to everyone else you got this!

Help deciding

Hey everyone I just want to start off by saying I am geniunely torn between PA or PT. I worked as a PT technician for 2 years and a medical assistant for 3 months now and I can genuinely see myself doing either career. I started off as going for pre-PT at first but made the change to PA last year and I took all the missing pre-reqs for PA this past year.

I finished and submitted my PA application but I’m having second doubts now.

The honest truth is, money is not an issue. My parents make very good money and I am pretty much set for life thanks to them. On top of that, I’m very confident I can get into one of my states DPT program for 65k tuition or 76k for my 2nd option.

What draws me to PT is the low stress environment of the profession. The worst thing that can happen in my eyes as a PT is a patient doesn’t get better. However as a PA if I don’t catch something a patient has they can go home and get potentially much worse due to a potentially life threatening illness that I missed.

So I guess my question is, are you happy in your current job? Do you feel exhausted by the end of the day? Are you happy to be at work? If money wasn’t a factor (nothing else changes you still see the same amount of patients) would you be satisfied being a PT? Do you think you would be happier as a PA? I know there are other jobs but these 2 are the only ones I’m looking at

Thank you to anyone who shares their two cents. I am completely open to applying to PT even though I already finished my PA application. I reached out to therapists I used to work with and they are happy to write me LORs.

EDIT: I wanted to clarify that I understand physical therapists can make patients condition worse but I feel like any competent physical therapist will know what not to do after a 3 year DPT pretty easily. I apologize if I’m wrong.

CASPA Transcript Question

I am taking 2 more classes this summer that are required for the school I am looking to attend. However the class ends on July 2nd and the application deadline is Auguest 1st. This school allows you to apply before finishing up your prerequisite but I would really like for them to be able to see what I made because I’m confident I can make As on both of them.

So my question is: Is it a good idea to wait until July 2nd to submit my transcript on caspa? Will caspa recieve it on time for the Auguest 1st deadline? Thank you for y’all’s help!
