Career form help

I’m currently in a situation where, during training, we were basically advised to select whatever sounded interesting on the career form. At the time, I didn’t realize that selection could later be used to permanently move me into a different role. Now they are using that older form selection to move me into a dept which is not something I want to do Which is why I would not have intentionally selected that path had everything been explained clearly from the beginning.

My supervisor explained that the decision is being made based on “business needs,” but I’m struggling to understand how that is being applied fairly. I have less than a year with the company, while there are employees on my team who have been in the same position for 10+ years and are not being moved.

I’m also not in Services, and in the department I’m currently in, we are not being trained to handle two positions at the same time, which makes the decision even more confusing to me.

I understand business needs play a role, but it’s frustrating that an older form selection is being used when it was completed under misinformation. I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar before and if speaking with HR helped clarify or resolve the situation.
