What Exactly did Christ Accomplish?

Hey everyone! Thank you again to everyone who answered my last question. One other thing I’ve really been curious to get a good handle on is exactly what Christ accomplished through his life, death, and resurrection from a CU perspective. There was a recent post on the sub asking about what we’re saved from that was very helpful, but what I’m asking is how Christ accomplished the saving.

Growing up an evangelical, I almost exclusively heard that Christ’s accomplishment was penal substitution where he basically paid our legal debt to God. That has always bothered me because sin is not a resource that can be traded like a money-based debt.

More recently, I’ve read some about Christus Victor views of atonement. That has made some sense to me, but I would really love to hear from some seasoned CU adherents how you formulate this.

Thanks!

Evangelism Question

Hi everyone! I want to start by saying that finding this subreddit has been a breath of fresh air. I really appreciate everyone sharing their thoughts here, it’s been most helpful in my journey thus far.

I’ve become convinced that all will one day be reconciled to God. I come from a fundamentalist evangelical background and have friends who disagree with my conclusion. Some of the staunchest among them are friends in training to be missionaries. The questions I get most commonly from them are as follows:

“Why would I ask someone in a Muslim country or other non-Christian country to risk their lives to become a Christian if everyone ends up in the same place anyways?”

Then in regard to some variation of purgatorial hell,

“Why not just let people keep sinning if they can just repent in hell right away?”

How would you guys respond to questions along these lines?
